The replay button on my old Buckaroo, which was working fine before
my tinkering(!) now seems to be inoperative even tho there are credits.
And when I put a coin in, the game fires up but it takes away from the
game credit from the replay reel! So almost as if the coin slot is operating
as the replay button...

The only thing I did was when I was adjusting the roto target I racked up
15+ credits so in order to bring them down I manually tilted the machine and then
fired it up from the replay button to bring the credit reel down a few times in succession.
Lazy as I should have just clicked them down from the back..

Anyway was tinkering more and put the roto score reel back in to test
and then.. dead replay button.. Any ideas?

Sounds like the coin chute switch is able to activate the Start relay (S). A switch on the Start relay will decrement the credit unit.

If the left coin chute is used, it activates the Start relay directly, without adding credits.

If the right coin chute is used (if it has one), then it can be set to add credits without starting a game. I'm guessing you used the left coin chute though, which would take away a credit if it had one.

The replay button should also activate the Start relay, but there are a couple more switches involved. The difference between the replay button path and the left coin chute path is that the replay button path also needs a normally closed score motor switch (usually motor 1C), and the Zero position switch on the credit unit needs to be closed.

The zero position switch would normally be closed when there's at least one credit on the credit unit, but it's possible it's not fully closed yet at position 1, or the contacts are dirty. So that would be worth checking.

Otherwise, check the score motor switches at position 1C (but check your schematic at the bottom to see exactly which one).

Thanks much for reply. Will look into it when i can get back to the game! Frustrating as I was sorting something else out and then this happened..! The Buck I have has only the one coin slot on it.. Will trace those switches as I did not think of that. Will let you know if I get a result..

Success! Thanks for advice.. seems be sorted now. Did as you suggested and checked all contacts and cleaned.. then noticed the 1c switch was bent away from the contact points! I must have snagged it when I was working on the roto target and did not realize. So good news is roto target sorted (after a 10 year fault!) and replay button now functions for 'free' games. Something worth playing for!! Thank again for v helpful advice.
