Replacing the connectors should be the first thing you do.
Do'nt ever touch the connectors or displays with the power on! This wil result in damaging the IC's on the CPU that drive the displays (the 7447).

So if your error is not related to the connectors, get out your schematics and probe the outputs of the 7447 and the 74175 in front of them.
