Sometimes I'll use a small flat blade screwdriver to hold down the Nylon gear piece while I place the reel over it into position, and then quickly pull it out of the way while pressing the reel down into position. Sometimes I can just do it by hand, but the blade seems to help when I'm just not fast enough.
There's probably a more clever way though.
