Here's my Sing Along credit unit torn apart. It's the type with the triangular piece.

Quoted from MikeO:

Hey Dirt,
To get a little off topic, I've never torn down a Gottlieb stepper unit this far.
How many turns to put the proper tension back on the spring?
Mike O.

What Boilerman said. I usually don't unwind the spring though. I unhook it from the bracket, and then let the spring rest against the standup post on the cam. As long as you don't let the spring lift up over that post (which it won't do on it's own), they're usually fine. I degrease and clean the cam and spring together then.

KoD is January '67, whereas Sing Along is September '67. If your KoD was a sample, then that means it was really built in '66, several months prior.

I'd go with the triangular one. My Sing Along is just a production version.
