If someone is going to go through the trouble of making an overlay, they should at least try to get the colors right. Most "KOD"s have faded playfields, especially the coral color towards the outlanes. The overlay was obviously made based on a very faded original.
Quoted from o-din:Looks like Beatniks turns 50 this month too.
Yeah, now it's just an old hippie!
Quoted from John_I:King of Diamonds was the last game with the solid metal chromed posts. After that Pinside was all up in arms
Not so. Although the add-a-ball counterpart "Diamond Jack" had plastic posts, and so did "Sing Along" which was released later in the year,
the add-a-ball version of that game, "Melody", had metal posts. The last game with metal posts was 1968's "Palace Guard", although I don't believe all of them were produced with metal posts. They may have exhausted their remaining stock on that run, and then switched exclusively to the white plastic posts.
Quoted from o-din:Looks like Magic City turned 50 this month too. Happy b-day MC!
They just don't make them like they use to! "Magic City" is another great playing EM classic. Happy Birthday!
Quoted from Shapeshifter:One of my favorites - 60 years old next month!
Loves me some "Ace High"!
Quoted from SirScott:My Palace Guard has (original) metal posts. Serial#: 3030
Played one last night. It also had metal posts. I think most do.
Quoted from jpackowski:Hello all
New to the forum.
I own a King of Diamonds and absolutely love it. Think it is one of the best EM from Gottlieb
I have been trying out of curiosity to find out how much these 60's cost brand new but cant find any info.
If anyone knows would appreciate a reply.
Yup. "KOD" is one of the best ever. They made plenty of them though. Had it been a low production game, it's value would likely be astronomical in today's collector market.
Back in the day, I'm estimating maybe around $850 for a new one.
Quoted from jpackowski:Does anyone know where to get the original paints for KOD cabinet. I need to touch up a little?
The little containers of Testor's model paints match pretty well. If the scratches or gouges are down to the wood, use white paint first, then when it dries, use the yellow or orange colors. Any white areas that need to be touched up may be tricky to match depending on how yellowed the white paint has become over the years.
Quoted from pinaholic:Whats a Diamond Jack 9.5 out of 10 worth?
What someone is willing to pay for it, but if it's exceptionally nice, you could expect to get at least $1200-1500 or more in my opinion, especially in the NY metro area.
Quoted from novaguy:Here's a pf shot of my kod.it's rough but plays great.
Ted
That's a "King of Hearts"!
Quoted from velcroman:Diamond Jack and Subway my two favorite 60s games by far.
If someone stopped me on the street before you posted this and asked me, "what are velcroman's two favorite pinball machines", I would have given him the correct answer!
