Well, this seems a stupid question, but I am struggling to remove the clock spring so i can clean the stepper. Do you remove the split pin end at the end of the stepper shaft, or try and unhook the end that goes to the frame (much easier on a Bally!)

ah, yes - thanks gents. Dave I took your advice - was tricky but got there in the end. 4 winds, plus had to shorten the spring the pulls back the advance lever a little, but all done and working!
