When specials are lit does not give a free game and no knocker sound just lights up and that's it the ax relay(Target special relay) pulls in when the special lights up any help would be appreciated .

Check these two switches. They lead into the AX.

If not those, check this NO sw. on G

Hi currieddog are these two switches on the ax relay.

I think they must be on the target banks.

On my Hot Shot, only 1 special lamp lights at a time. It alternates between the left & right standup targets, controlled by a make/break switch on the A relay. It sounds like you might have an inadvertent make/make switch on the A relay instead?

If a special lamp is lighting, then the AX relay has definitely pulled in.
Do the standup targets score points?

In order to score a special replay, the circuit shown between rows 6 and 7 on the schematic should come into play. There is a long series circuit.

Thus, a motor switch (green-black wire) at position 1C needs to be conducting, along with closure of the (lit for special) standup target switch, along with one of the make/break switches (yellow wire) on the A relay (there are 5 m/b switches on the A relay), along with a NO switch (yellow & red wire) on the AX relay, along with the 15th position switch on the credit unit itself. The game will not score a special if you already have 15 games on the credit unit.

Let us know if all those switches check out.

Hi Runbikeskilee the special does light up and it does alternate between both sides, and every target that drops does score points and the ax relay does pull in once 1-8 or 8-15 targets have been dropped, and there is not 15 credits on the score wheel.

But do the standup targets score points? I suggest starting to inspect and clean the switches mentioned above.
OR, use Howard's jumper cable method to isolate which one (or more) of the switches are not conducting.

    Yes.

Checked switches and cleaned at 1C,AX,A relay still no go.

Does the machine award score replays or matches?

Did you find and check the switches in post #2 + 3?

The switches in post 2 are working good but I go back and have a look again at the switches on the G relay sometimes they look closed but aren't closed.

Can you see the EX relay pulling in?

The EX should have two NO switches. One of those switches, when closed, will deliver power to the credit unit (Gottlieb may call it the Add Replay Unit) solenoid. If the EX relay energizes, but you still get no replay, try jumpering the switches closed with an alligator clip and test again.

Lastly, it is less likely, but possible, that a Jones plug has a wire broken off or a plug not seated.

If the Add Replay Unit relay (EX) relay doesn't activate when this happens, Inspect and diagnose this circuit with Alligator clip jumper wires

Hi lee No the EX relay doesn't
    pull in.

    Quoted from HowardR:

Hi Howardr correct me if I am right or wrong one alligator clip on a EX relay switch and the other end goes to a Motor switch on 1C .

Raff, If the EX relay is never pulling in, then either:

    1) one of the switches in the circuit that I mentioned in post #6 and that Howard redlined in post #15 is still not conducting so that EX coil never gets power, or

    2) the EX relay coil itself is not functional.

One way to test for #2 is to jump power to the terminals of the EX coil using either a 9V battery (enough voltage to make it move weakly) or just to jump power from the terminals of the coin door lockout coil which is always hot while the game is powered on. If EX still never pulls in, you may have a bad winding (broken wire or open circuit) in the relay coil.

WRT #1 above, the bane of the EM game is the switch that "looks" to be making solid conduct, but still does not conduct current for some reason. Howard can probably explain better than I can, but the basic idea is to sequentially short circuit each possible switch in the redlined circuit of post #15 using the jumper cables, until you isolate which switch (or switches) in the circuit are not functioning to conduct current through to the EX relay coil.

EX relay only pulls in when the machine awards free games for score replays or matches.

Problem fixed specisls are working again. I cleaned and gapped the switches at AX.,A, EX cleaned and tightened the switch at motor 1C
But i think the priblem was at the credit unit swith 15 i noticed that i could only get 7 games on the credit wheel i noticed the screw that opens the 15th switch was in the wrong position so i put it back in the right position cleaned the switch and adjusted the gap and specials was back on again thanks to all for helping me.

    Good job in staying persistent.

Hitting the special target is hard enough, without getting "cheated" out of a replay. LOL.

The credit unit probably was designed to allow the operator to limit the # replays to 7 or 15. I've also seen machines before where that credit unit switch was so dirty that it did not conduct electricity anyway.

    #21 4 years ago

If the 15th switch on the credit wheel wasnt working would it still award free games on score and match numbers.
    Raff

    #22 4 years ago

You have a point. Most games will not award a credit or fire the knocker if that switch is open or non-conducting. You did say that the machine awarded replays from score. Likely was one of the other switches that you cleaned & adjusted.

    #23 4 years ago

You did say that the machine awarded replays from score.</blockquote Yea it did award replays from score and matching number so that 15th switch would be ruled out.

    #24 4 years ago

The original poster stated the game awarded replays and probably didn't notice the limit switch opened at "7," It happens.

    Quoted from Boatcat:

The limit switch was open at 7 games because the screw that opens the switch was in the wrong position .
