Hey everyone - looking for some options around my Gottlieb 80B MA-766 sound board, which got zapped with 25VDC thanks to a kicker that was wired to short into the 5VDC line... I didn't see it until it was too late, and frankly, I just didn't expect it to be wired and built as I found it (parts in backwards) so when it fired it shorted the power lines into each other... Anyway, it whacked my 80B sound board, which was working well BEFORE this lovely discovery.

I'm looking for options:

1) Replace (if anyone has one)
2) Repair (which I am in the middle of now)
3) Re-engineer (I have seen some promising ideas, but nothing actually for sale...)

For #1, I just don't see many model MA-766s on the market - if anyone has one, PM me!

#2, well, yes, I have Leon's test ROM and he and I have been in touch. Strangely enough, the top circuit flashes so I am sure that the reset line and clock work, but the bottom circuit never starts. I can't seem to determine which line is shot, and I have a good CPU and RAM (new and verified working in another product) and most of the 74xxx chips test ok, as well - but I have about four or six left to lift out and test/replace. I was really hoping for a better lead than systematically replace every chip that touches the data lines, but here we are

#3, I did some some interesting protos and even a RaspPi design where the fellow had captured all of the sounds of (I think) a Raven and then put the lines to a RaspPi header and wrote a python script to interpolate and play the sounds...sharp! That's cool, except I don't have audio clips of the game...

So I'm looking for any thoughts, insights, ideas, anything!

Thanks!

Leon's?

Did you actually use the testrom and the D-section (background) fails to start? Y-section working, also with regular soundroms?

I do have a few MA-766 for sale if desired…..
