You're missing the point that the distributor isn't just your salesman.. they are the customer engagement entirely. Stern doesn't want to own the customer relationship.. and is pushing on Distributors do to their job. These are not supposed to be wholesalers - but actual distributors responsible for marketing, selling, and supporting the product.
Stern is trying to hold the line on the customer engagement.
