So I'm almost done with everything but the backglass for this Williams Super Star.
So, one side of the cabinet was... not "nice," but okay-ish. The other side was proper banged-up, had people's names carved in it and stuff - the outer frame of the headbox was completely trashed. I'd already touched-up the coin door panel with those cheap craft store paints, and it actually looked okay - small areas, not too noticeable.
(I figured it'd just be a matter of scaling-up. Boy was I wrong)
So, I started doing a white undercoat on all the areas that had gotten paint chipped or carved off, and I was using a pretty big brush, so a lot of those areas actually overlapped, and before I knew it there was more white than yellow, and I was thinking "Yeah, I should've just done this properly to begin with."
The pictures look better than real life. Up close, you can see a lot of brush strokes, and the silver speckles are covered up with a thin coat of yellow, and you can totally see the chipped-off bits underneath, and it basically looks super-rough and amateurish.
So, I figure I'm about to start my first re-spray project - make some stencils, take this thing down to the wood, sand it smooth and respray the whole lot.
I've read the cabinet repaint tips at pinrepair.com, but does anyone have anything to add to them? Any advice for me?
