I have a Gorgar & I'm fixing one up for someone. When I press the button on the sound board on mine it says the following, Gorgar, Speaks, You, Beat, Me, Hurt, Got, sound fx, sound fx, sound fx, sound fx, sound fx, sound fx.
& when I press it on the game I'm fixing up it leaves off the words You & Beat. I removed the roms & cleaned the pins
& removed the ribbon cable between the two boards but still the same. Any suggestions on what to check next ?

I had issues with one I worked on a few years ago and if I remember correctly you want to make sure the proper power is getting to the board.
I vaguely remember a transistor on the mpu or driver board giving an issue.
Sorry I can't be more specific ,it's been a while since I've worked on one of those early williams games.

Basic idea is the driver board, via solenoid section transistors, ground out the inputs on the sound board that trigger sounds. Since the sound board can produce the "beat me" words via the diag button, you need to look at the triggering. Inspect the header pins on the sound board and the driver board, that is the most likely failure point. Next try manually grounding the inputs on the sound board and see what you get. One input is to silence all sound so you can look for that. If all inputs to sound board are good, but one isnt triggering check the 4050 buffers on the sound board right after the input header pins. Finally check / replace the PIA.
