Piggyback the cabinet woofer. Just make sure polarity is correct (black to neg, red to pos or, if both wires are black, the one with stripes will be the neg) Solder them on if you don't have alligator clips.

These old machines do not have the low frequency fidelity to justify the expense of a subwoofer. If you had one lying around sure! But I wouldn't spend the money on one just for Gorgar.

It’s my 2nd subwoofer. They cost about 150 bucks. The 150 dollars is well worth it if you can tie multiple pins to it. My other subwoofer is tied to Foo Fighters, AIQ, Dracula, IMDN and JP. My new subwoofer will be going to Gorgar, Firepower and my next system 6. Some machines sound better than others, but I was surprised on how good Gorgar sounds. The heartbeat is amazing.

Can anyone suggest bulbs? Are there kits or should I just buy a bunch and replace as necessary? Pinball Life or Marco?

Appreciate your time.

Ahoy all.

I'm just joining the club and while cleaning, these ball guides are broken. Probably the first deep cleaning this machine has ever had.

In williams catalog its stated as 01-6917. No one has them, that I've found.
Anyone help a dude out and points me in the righteous direction.

HEP is restoring a Gorgar, if you don't follow his thread here is the link:

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/hep-this-week-9-17-18/page/255#post-7671422

He is also posting progress on youtube:

As my Gorgar is a real beater, very interested in seeing Chris turn this into better (way better) than factory.

#1718 4 months ago

Is there anything I need to do if I want to go the LED route? Or can I just buy the LEDs and replace the bulbs with those?

Curious to see what Chris does with the playfield. Any guesses?

I've been debating between a micro, a hard top, or sending it to kruzman ( does he do insert replacement, too?)

What have you guys done to upgrade your PFs?

I don't know about any of the options. Mine is bumpy for sure. I laugh sometimes when I watch the ball slow-roll in a not-so-straight line.

Is anyone else getting 3000 bonus advance from the top “B” lane? The playfield says 1000 but mine is scoring 3000 per switch hit up there. I have a rotten dog mpu. Maybe there is a setting somewhere for this.

Wow. I thought I was the only one. Yes, yes, yes.

#1726 4 months ago

Mine does it too, and I’ve tried to fix it with no luck. I seem to remember reading somewhere it’s a software glitch.

#1727 4 months ago

The ‘B’ rollover is supposed to advance 3 bonus counts while all the other rollovers (A,C,D,E) advance 1 bonus count. This is explained in the Instruction Guide, page 2 - the page with the operation rules for the game.

Thank you I though I was going crazy but you are right. Its just odd the playfield says 1000 under that switch.

#1729 4 months ago

When I first got my Gorgar, the A, B and C lanes were all moving the bonus more than 1,000. Had to adjust the switches to not register multiple times, but couldn’t get the ‘B’ to do less than 3,000. So, I eventually searched for rules info and that is how I came across a few sources (including the instruction guide) that confirmed B was behaving correctly. I wonder how many new Gorgar owners go through this feeling that the rollovers are acting up because of the B lane behavior.

Once I learned this, though, I enjoyed the added dimension to the plunger/top lanes shot. Provides an added layer of challenge in that you obviously want to make a lane you have not yet made, but an already completed B lane is better as a secondary result over an already completed A or C.

Mine was the same. Over sensitive switches sent me down this rabbit hole to begin with. Got them all dialed in but was still seeing the 3000 on “B”. Now that I know it’s working correctly I agree having the “B” lane score extra is a nice added layer up top.

Good news. So I guess it would be considered a Skill Shot. Anyone ever notice others?

It gives 3000 points plus it advances the bonus 3. It's all programed into the Gorgar game chips.

#1733 4 months ago

Does everyone have bounce problems at the flippers or is it just some machines? I bought the things from Cliffys but it didn't change much. Actually it changes for a day or so then reverts back.

I'm just wondering if this was an issue when it came out or is it just now we are having issues because maybe there's a difference in thickness of the bands from old to now.

I was wondering if the precision flippers would change it. But I don't want to change it if it's something that is normal for the game.

#1734 4 months ago

Check my posts #1647 & 1649. I adjusted my return lanes and it hasn't been an issue since. My Gorgar is way less than perfect and I haven't got around to filling the old holes or touching it up, but I don't really notice it or care at this point. It plays much better.

You guys do know there was a song "Gorgar" right? Here is my red as hell blood bath Gorgar video with the song Gorgar. $100 Craigslist grab a few years back. All LED's from Comet, Through led strip, lighted flipper and start buttons, and I found an NOS backglass for it I installed after I made this video. I'm going to install the NMP drop target upgrade next. Awesome game!

Nice job. I like the red. I'm converting to LEDs in the next week, new rubbers, etc. Looking forward to doing it. I keep thinking about making new drop target stickers that are black with the Gorgar face. Not sure though. I've never liked the stock stickers.

** NMP drop target upgrade is the best thing you can do!

I used these. No worry about the glue shattering and easy clean installation. Clean drop targets and magnets with alcohol before applying pads. Also rough up the magnet with some sand paper like 320 grit for some tooth.

Here is an interesting post for alternative NMP drop target installation. Great idea for permanent magnet installation that uses rivets rather than glue!

Not a fan of the all-red lighting. Too dark and the red throws all the playfield art colors off and washes it out (over saturation). Check out how bad it can get on this thread LOL.

RE color bombed GI, the Gorgar playfield and backglass don't get enough credit for being quite colorful, including greens, yellows, and blues.

Here's a nice balance of white and color gi, me thinks. Glass on so picking up too much bg reflection, but you get the idea. Slings have one red one white each, pit and extra ball bombed, white up top and on sides, fire bulb at center drop.

Also, whatever you think looks cool on ur machine is what you should do. IDGAF what anyone thinks about my pins. Make em yours, I say.

Thanks for the links this will be my Saturday eve project! The only thing that sucks with LED's is when you have one color like I did with the red they do no photograph well at all. In person, ball tracking, and the over all saturation is actually nice. I lite the advance kicker pop out with a white LED and that breaks up more then it shows. Also a little green up top helps and the white in the outlane. I didn't want to make clown puke with tons of different colors and with the Gorgar theme it felt mainly red to me. But I agree, I sent some of the finished pics to some pin friends they said the same thing too much red but when they finally came over to play it they were like "damn that looks badass!" Unless you do all white the camera does not photograph leds well. I'll post an update once I get the new NMP drop targets in. Can't wait to see how they work.

For those of you looking at the NMP sensors. I put a 5 bank set on my Alien Poker since that game is so reliant on hitting targets in sequence and it messes up the gameplay if you have a bad switch detection on the old horseshoes.

There are a couple things you need to be aware of when using these. Hit detection is indeed perfect every time. They are a great upgrade.

The new issue they can create though is with no horseshoes, you're removing a good deal of forward push on the targets when they reset. The problem this can create is if your target guides are in bad shape or are 3D printed replacements, you might have issues with the targets staying up without the horseshoes pushing forward onto the guides to latch. If you have this problem, you can get some adhesive copper trace tape and very carefully run strips of it along the back of the NMP targets where the orignal boards had their slider contacts. And simply put your horseshoes back on your drop targets. They won't serve any switching purpose but your drops will retain their factory feel rather than being lighter to knock down. Just be careful not to create a short when placing down your copper tape. (you could probably try it without the tape, but I don't feel like finding out how long it takes for sliding horseshoes to wear out a PCB.)

#1741 3 months ago

I'm working on the file for the Gorgar score and instruction cards.
I would like to add the score insert to the file, but I haven't got any images for them.
I could also use scans for the instruction cards.
Some I already have, but fresh scans would be better.
Any other cards are also welcome.
I also noticed that the regular manual isn't available from the ipdb.
The Instruction Booklet and the schematics are there, but not the manual.
Can anyone help out?

As fate would have it, a Gorgar game came to my for repairs.
In the game was a (nearly) complete set of cards and inserts.
I only need to know if there is a card 496-7, as it is not present in the set I've found.

I also found the manual and scanned it.
It will be made available on the ipdb.

In my Gorgar file are also images for the drop target decals.
The newly made file for the complete set will be available on my website at the end of the month.

I've not done a CPR swap, but I have done one with a mirco playfield. It was my first swap. In total probably took me ~120 hours by the time I sorted all the issues out. Doing it again it'd probably take me half the time. The new playfield is vastly better from a gameplay standpoint, my old playfield had warped and raised inserts galore.

That being said I suppose it's not all sunshine and rainbows. Micro playfields have been known to have issues with clear coat chipping. Mine's no exception. I had one tiny chip occur near the left flipper sling, and the left out hole clear coat has chipped up all around the hole. This was only bare wood on the original playfield so I'm not super concerned about art or gameplay issues. I put a outhole protector over it and it concealed most of it...Still a bummer. The biggest issue I have had is the fact that I cannot get the ball into the left out hole and stay there...something's off with either the size or depth, or location/angle of the metal stopper...it's hard to say for sure.

That being said, do I regret it? No not at all. It plays way better. Ball moves fast, I upgraded the flippers at the same time, fixed up the drop targets with NPM drops so it's very reliable. Game plays fast, and well...unfortunately mean lol. Those out lanes are no joke.

#1746 49 days ago

Thanks sparksterz that's very helpful. And you're right, I think it's just mirco who makes them vs. CPR.

Definitely a bummer about the new PF chipping after all that work. Something to think about for sure...

My PF is not *too* bad, but I know it' won't get better over time. Worn areas *relatively* minimal, and my local guy filled in the sunken inserts with epoxy, which turned out pretty good, actually. Still, I plan to keep Gorgar forever and each week I see more and more paint coming off, tiny bit by bit.

Pix of the worst areas, sorry for glass on photos.

My wear was similar, but the PF was probably cleaner overall. I think that's where you're in a bit of a bind. The PF could probably use some deep cleaning, but I suspect you may be concerned that it gets clean at the expense of the art. My inserts just got so bad that I never tried to epoxy or heat gun each insert to get it level again. I wanted to learn something new - and boy did I. One of the better machines to tackle as a first. There are 3 main connectors to the PF on long enough wires to manipulate it out of the cab, but still plug in for testing. Not to mention, cool wall art as a bonus and some bragging rights for an accomplishment lol.

#1748 49 days ago

My playfield is in similar condition. I just keep it waxed and am good with it. It reflects the overall condition of the entire game. To me, it’s a slippery slope if I start putting new cosmetic stuff on it.

Just so the internals are good and it plays great is good enough for me.

A new backglass would be pretty sweet though….

#1749 49 days ago

Cool, sparksterz, have you gone on to do other swaps?

tullster highly recommend the Mayfair back glasses, love ours. Saw recently Marco carries yet another option. My original backglass came with a free flesh colored bandaid on the lady's leg.

No, not yet. But I have me eyes on haunted house or the getaway next. Unfortunately 2 kids under the age of 5 means I seldom get that much time to dedicate to it. I plan on doing another in the future though
