Quoted from DakotaMike:

After considering everyone's advice, I'm gonna offer the guy $800. If he takes it, then I guess I've got a drive ahead of me this weekend. If not, then I'll wait it out and keep searching. Because while I like Gorgar, its not completely my ideal pin, and I don't think it will be a big hit with my wife and daughter. And I really do want to get pins that they will like too. I don't want my pinball hobby to just be a man-thing! Thanks to everyone for your input. We'll see how it goes!

Added 9 days ago: FOLLOWUP: Crickets from the seller since I offered him $800 . I was friendly and polite with my offer, and I told him no hard feelings either way, so a simple "No Thanks" would have been nice.

Added 6 days ago: FOLLOWUP2: Just a quick update: Guess I won't in the Gorgar club! Seller took down the Gorgar ad, so he musta sold it. Probably to someone a little closer I hope. Now I've got a line on a players Dr. Dude for $1500. A fun sys11 and a little more family friendly. And it looks like I'll only have to drive 3.5 hrs to get it instead of 4, so win win. Still not locked in yet, but I'm hopeful.

Sending low offers for pins you aren’t even sure you want seems like a quick way to send a message to sellers that you aren’t serious. Based on what I saw on those pics, I’d buy 5 Gorgars at $800 and resell all of them for a few hundred more. Even at the cost of a new backglass, you’d have a great pin at a steal.

But, of course, this is the club thread so I guess you’d expect owners to say this.

Have had mine a while now, and been here a while, but she's still a keeper. Came from the flooded basement of an old Op's home. Was buried under piles of crap, and legs had lost 4" due to rot, from standing water. A set of new legs, shop job, boards sent out, has been good ever since (With one minor driver board fire, and epic smoke show (post is somewhere)). Believe I paid either $100 or $125 at the time for her. Have been meaning to upgrade the flipper mechs for years, still on the to do list.

Joined the club. Got a pretty decent Gorgar. I had to fix a few things. But it's up and running great now.

Pics with the red background walls are from when I picked it up.

If the Gorgar had been closer, it would have been a no brainer! I'd have offered more in that case. But it was going to be a 4+ hour drive, and for every person who said $1080 was a good price, even with the bad backglass, I had someone else say they wouldn't offer more than $600. Hence how I arrived at my $800 offer. Still, maybe someday I'll get to join the club. You never know!

Recapped all the boards. Added retro LEDs. New white rubbers. And new flipper bats and coils

Just finished the cabinet today... used oil based semi gloss enamel. First time doing a stencil, and bloody hell, it is a LOT more work than I thought it would be. But, it came out really nice. Will be going through it with a toothpick and tiny brush to do some touchups, but overall,... wow. The difference. Wow.

And, some before/afters of the playfield. That also came out very nice

Wow wow wow! Great work!

Seeing your cab with the hardware off makes me think it might look pretty swanky with black powdercoat.

Hi
I'm not a GORGAR-owner anymore but after searching the forum and finding nothing regarding this important anniversary I want to bring out a big toast on GORGAR's 40th anniversary a few months ago.
As far I remember the machine was presented at the AMOA in autumn 1979
It's first presentation in Germany will be 40 years ago in 2 weeks (at the "IMA 1980" in Frankfurt)
This was big-time, the news of a "talking pinball" could be seen in lots of newspapers and even housewife-magazines over here.
A pinball-addict who had the pleasure to meet GORGAR when it was brandnew won't forget it.
GORGAR is as important as Black Knight, High-Speed or T2 to name a few and deserves a birthday-bash, won't you agree?

#963 4 years ago

Completely agree. I’m of the opinion that Gorgar doesn’t get enough love for its special place in pinball history. Happy birthday big guy!!

“Gorgar, me got birthday!”

#964 4 years ago

I gave Gorgar a new set of pin score displays for Christmas. No more 30 minute warm up period to see your score.

#965 4 years ago

Almost done with mine... 1 more pop bumper skirt to replace and a little cabinet touch up...

Does anyone have a connect within CPR to get them to move forward with the Gorgar playfield this year?

Dude, I’ve been waiting 5 years. They posted years ago they have the art just not enough “demand”.

They should at least put it on the “new process” list. I see a few firepower people have got their new process playfields.

Agreed. If they don’t get them out soon, I’m selling Gorgar to get it out of my garage.

They did close the preorder section of their site and put up a disclaimer including:

"We will get to those last ‘Preordered’ runs this year, and email those on the lists when the time comes to ship. Finishing up the old model once and for all."

Either way that is good news. Was Gorgar in the Preorder category or the Boutique category at the end?

It was in the pre-order phase. I still have my email from when I signed up on it.

Gorgar Speaks AGAIN!
I received my repaired Gorgar boards today from Clive (Coin-Op Cauldron). Wow! What a great job he does. These ancient boards look new!
I'm so glad to get this game back in operating order. It's a classic!

Good to hear! I literally boxed up my Gorgar sound boards 30 minutes ago so I can send them to Clive tomorrow!

Looks like they’ll for sure be here in 2020? Here’s the link for anyone that wants to read it:

They posted a week ago on Facebook that they were closing preorders and completing them under their new system. I commented asking if this was good news for Gorgar? Please see their response on Facebook...

ugh...Why would they have had pre-orders open for years if that was the case!

#978 4 years ago

I thought they had said the art had been done for a long time.

#979 4 years ago

Ludicrous. Shouldn’t they have the original art?

When Gorgar was shipped to new owners, what paper items would have been included with it?
By the time I acquired mine last summer, it didn't have any manuals or apron cards in it.

#983 4 years ago

Posted this in another thread, but thought it fit here more... Printed these awhile ago, color coded to match my games. Cost around $1 in materials.

20200220_071335.jpg20200220_071335.jpg
#984 4 years ago

Besides the manual, there would have been a smaller instruction booklet, a registration card, and a whole bunch of pricing/replay inserts in a big sheet.

#985 4 years ago

That is a brilliant idea! Can you make a system so they can detach like pingulp premiums? I could save a ton of money... the ability to detach and holes in the bottom would make them perfect.

Quoted from Chalkey:

I'm sure they could be made detachable, but at a material cost of a buck, I just have one on every machine, no need to remove.

#987 4 years ago

There's a NOS PF on Facebook, saw last week. Sounds like CPR needs it.

They need to be removable to make room to slide between games and access the back box when you have your pins close together!

Interesting that these have amber inserts for "D" and "E", instead of the original green.

Mine has green as well but there are a lot of pics online of amber. I'm in either way!

#994 4 years ago

My Gorgar has amber inserts for D and E, so I guess they were made both ways. I do like that all of the inserts are opaque on the repro, I think that looks better than original.

#995 4 years ago

Wonder if I’ll get a email soon I’m sure I was on the list. Has anyone got a email from them yet?

Are you sure you're not thinking of CPR? I don't think Mirco takes a list... but I might be wrong.

I was going to ask if anyone can vouch for the quality of the Mirco playfield?. I've only bought a couple from CPR in the past and have been pretty pleased.

Your probably right. it was so long ago I added myself to some sort of list.

I wonder where the variations fall in the serial number sequence. My Gorgar with green "D" and "E" inserts is S/N 398417.

#999 4 years ago

Wowwwwww.

I wonder what this is going to do to the value of the current Gorgars out there. I am just about finished with my restoration of my original, which required a lot of touch up and clear coating. I got the machine for $1000 with Pinscore displays and solid bulletproofed boards. When people get these beat up machines (a lot of Gorgars are very rough with either paint wear or bad insert cupping - almost every Gorgar I've ever seen has had cupping).. at a "base price" of $1k, a playfield at $800 ... I think we're going to be seeing the days of $2K+ machines ... which might have an effect on the 1K machines now that it's "restorable" with a playfield swap.

And I really don't care about the value so much, have no idea where to price a fully upgraded original cleared cabinet redone bullet proofed pinscore new flipper mech + new lots of other crap machine. Despite the gross amount of work I've put into this, I'm glad I was able to save an original. It's a fantastic game. But with the repro playfield out now, I think mine's "value" has dropped a bit. Demand probably drops too. I dunno. Should be interesting. Crazy market.

#1000 4 years ago

How is it decided which manufacturer gets a given title? Interesting about the new pfs from Mirco after Gorgar was on the CPR list so long. Gorgar would be a perfect candidate for hard tops. I think Gorgar being on the CPR list was reason for the company that makes hard tops saying they won't do Gorgar. Is it really just a free for all for any company that pays the licensing fee?
