I've never seen that before. Maybe it was installed to prevent heat with the incandescent lamps but everyone nowadays is using leds. You can always remove it if you want to.

Some of the plastics in back of the playfield were warped due to heat, the fan could have been in response to this. Luckily I was able to unwarp the plastics with a heatgun.

Finally finished all the tweaking and switch issues. The GOR-GAR targets have the new siegecraft boards and new horseshoe connectors took some back and forth to get them right, finally got it.

I will attach the before and after now.

It has the flipper upgrade, all new boards, all new displays, all new legs, all new leg levelers, magnetic apron, new LED’s, new pop bumper skirts, clear coated playfiled, painted cabinet, new speaker, bullet proofed the whole machine with BR fuses, and a solenoid fuse block, I polished almost every metal piece on the machine (not overboard like every nut or washer but the big stuff), cleaned all the brown stuff of the inside aluminum in the head, pretty much did it all.

Don’t know how long I will keep it but I enjoy restoring machines. I would likely trade it - looking for a High Speed or Eight Ball Deluxe (even the Limited Edition version). SO, if anyone wants to trade hot me up. The machine is better than new now.

Try to give you a couple more pics, the flipper upgrade and trying to show the clear coat and the drop target upgrade, new speaker.

Thanks - lots of work but fun too. It was a project through and through...but it better than new now.

You should have made a youtube video on the flipper rebuild. That would have been awesome. I rebuilt my flippers the traditional way. I'm going to have to give your method a try one day.

#610 6 years ago

There's enough people on here to walk you through it. It's an easy process, just a little nerve raking drilling into the bottom of the playfield for the new mechs!

Really nice job on the restore! Beautiful machine!

#612 6 years ago

I've been working on a friend's newly acquired Gorgar machine and I can't seem to set the pitch at a level he enjoys. Basically at anything over 4 degrees you tend to get a pretty significant bounce when the ball comes down the flipper lane, and into the flipper. Anything under 4 degrees is just way too slow.

The flippers on this game seem to sit about 1/4 of an inch too high as it pertains to the plastics that guide the ball into the flipper. Is this the way that it is supposed to play? Most games I've played seem to provide a fairly smooth transition at that point.

#613 6 years ago

Your metal guides may be worn. A cliffy enhanced guide can fix that.

http://www.passionforpinball.com/FlipFrames.htm

Or you might be able to loosen up everything and adjust and tighten?

#614 6 years ago

Mine is raked as far as the leg levelers will go. Cant play it any other way

OK, this makes a ton of sense! I didn't know that was an issue. I'll investigate! Thank you for your help.

Absolutely change your guides with cliffys. It made my gorgar play like new. It is a must.

I just got them yesterday. I just need a night to go over and work on my friends machine. I’ll report back ASAP. Thanks again!

Been watching for a long time. Hell i'll take 2 if that hurries it up.

#620 6 years ago

How long has it been?

#621 6 years ago

At least 1 1/2 to 2 years. It keeps moving down the list too.

That sucks ! I'd take 2 also if it speeds it up

#623 6 years ago

alright, you guys twisted my arm, I signed up! I've had the game for almost a year, and I feel confident that it's not going anywhere, at least for a long while. So wife and I felt it was time that Gorgar and we move into the next step of our relationship

#624 6 years ago
Quoted from Travish:

I signed up a long time ago. I wish CPR would at least give an estimate. If they're not going to any year soon then I wish they'd say that.

#625 6 years ago

I have a pretty worn out GORGAR and have been looking to find a nicer version. I find it amazing that there were 14000 of these games made and it is so hard to find very nice examples. Moreover, one would think that there would be a lot more demand for playfields.

The one that I have is pretty worn, but it works and it gets played a lot, which is the point.

#626 6 years ago

My gorgar playfield is pretty beat. The cabinet is trashed but damn is it fun to play! I have it set up super nasty with hair trigger slings and I'm still trying to beat the default 500K high score.

#627 6 years ago

Gorgar is a classic and a great game. If a 3 year old playfield listing for $1200 in the other thread gets people talking it seems a easy decision to go ahead and produce the playfield. CPR already has new plastics and with as many as were produced (14,000) and with most having worn out fields it will sell.
I think the reason it's not moving forward is people are starting to believe it will never happen and not signing up.

Look at the firepower run they did. People line up to pay big money for one. Gorgar would be the same way a couple years after the run is completed.
With CPR acting like they will do it makes any other playfield manufacturer NOT do it. If they are not going to step up I wish they would say so and then Mirco or someone else would.

#628 6 years ago

A quick question about the eject hole extra ball - is there any way to adjust the eject hole so its value doesn't reset after starting an extra ball?

To clarify, if I have only one more GOR-GAR to lite the Xtra ball (with the eject hole @ 15k), and I hit the 300k replay/shoot again, when I drain that ball and start the next ball, my progress on the eject hole is cleared and I must start over.

This does make earning that x-ball a lot harder on a good game, which I suppose is a good challenge.

But just wondering if anyone here has found a way to get around that? I've looked over all the game adjustments in the manual and found nothing.
Thanks!!

#629 6 years ago

300k? I think you have a typo there.
Gor and gar lites 10k, gor and gar a second time lites 15k, gor and gar a third time lites extra ball. When you earn the extra ball it clears and goes back to nothing.
You must start over and earn it all over again.

The only adjustment that pertains to the eject hold is #32. The "easiest" is the 01 setting.

#630 6 years ago

I think he might be saying he has it set to extra ball at replay score, which he has set to 300k, is that right? If it resets the gor-gar value that might be a bug, basically running the same code through as if you got the extra ball by completing 3 gor-gars and hitting the saucer.

#631 6 years ago
Quoted from Chalkey:

Exactly - I have the standard replay values (300, 430, and 550K) set to extra ball.

But if I say had extra ball lit at the eject hole and hit 430k (earning the xtra ball), if I drained with the eject hole still lit for xtra ball it resets.

So this is definitely a bug? I always thought since Gorgar is only one xtra ball-per-ball that this somehow was on purpose.

Thanks for the help!

Gorgar Fans, going to start a restoration on a basket case Gorgar.
Was looking for ideas on exterior ?
Chrome trim ? Black or red powder coat ? Something that has the wow factor ?

Has anybody put these on? My cabinet is trashed (p.o. had it in an attic for 5-10 years) and it might be a good option after shoring up the wood. As it is now it's cracked up pretty good.

#636 6 years ago

No matter what you do , either stencil or wrap make sure you prep the hell out of it.

#637 6 years ago
Quoted from leckylove:

With cabinet decals you want the cabinet as smooth as possible !!!
Like glass otherwise you will have a hard time getting decals to go on, and any imperfections get amplified

Does anyone make a flatbox replacement cab for classic williams / stern /etc?

#640 6 years ago
Quoted from Chalkey:

Does anyone make a flatbox replacement cab for classic williams / stern /etc?

I'm not sure but my buddy bought a pin with a terrible cabinet and made a template of the cabinet and cut pieces and assembled a new cabinet. Then applied stencils to it and he was giod as new. He was fortunate to have tools and ability to do it. If that isn't an option buying a used cabinet from a trashed game with similar dimensions would work as well.

#641 6 years ago

Picked up a Gorgar this weekend, so I guess I'm in the club. It was a "barn find," and the backbox took a serious hit with moisture. However, the water didn't appear to have damaged the boards. Backglass has the standard cracking. And some rodents briefly lived in the cab.
That being said, despite the mess, the playfield looks good, everything is there, it doesn't stink like mouse piss and the batteries, while corroding to hell and back, only seemed to have damaged a couple of resistors.
The weird thing is that there are some clean cuts to some wiring. But, only a few, and they were seemingly random. It's not like someone cut out components. I would chalk it up to mice, but I'm not sure I want to meet the mouse that can snip a thick wire in half with a cut as clean as some pliers.
Anyway, I'm still in the "save it or part it out" mode. I don't want two time sink projects, but if I can get this one flipping within a couple of weeks, I would be inclined to keep it around.

#642 6 years ago

I got one that was in an attic for many years and it bounced back pretty quick after reflowing solder and a few other small fixes. Not sure about those wires but you can check the schematic or give us colors and locations.

It's an incredibly fun game for such a simple layout. I love it.

#643 6 years ago

Can someone take a picture of the backbox with the connectors from the cabinet? I want to make sure I'm not about to fry a board when testing to see if they are at all alive.

#644 6 years ago

You mean the connectors on all the boards / where they're hooked up?

#645 6 years ago
Quoted from Chalkey:

You mean the connectors on all the boards / where they're hooked up?

Yes. There are some that are similar, and I don't want to misconnect anything.

#646 6 years ago

I can take some photos when I get home tomorrow. Are they not keyed?

#647 6 years ago

Actually, don't sweat it. I figured it out at the same time that the back box decided to go to Valhalla on me. Looks like I'll be building a new one anyway.

#648 6 years ago

What happened?

#649 6 years ago

When setting it up on the game, the moderate water damage to the back box turned out to be worse, and two corners gave completely.

#650 6 years ago

I finally got around to recapping an old sound board I got from @jesterfunhouse. Pulled the speech ROMS and gave them a good cleaning, replaced a broken leg on one. Replaced the header pins and Voila! Gorgar speaks!

I will always remember his first words
