I'm in the market for a new gaming system for the kids this year for Christmas. Bringing out my old PS2 and testing to put up for sale on Craigslist has my kids saying they are tired of the Wii and want to keep the PS2. I'm thinking we finally move on and want something less Wii like, because the kids are getting older. Last night I came acroos Google Stadia. It's a WiFi controller that uses a Chromecast to play real video games streaming. The processing is all done on Google's end. To me this is great because no console cost that will be outdated eventually. However, does the community believe this is viable way to game right now? Should I stay away?

For $129 pre-order you get the controller and a Chromecast Elite. Extra controllers will be $70. It's very tempting. Might I add it's pre-order, which is a nasty word these days.

Thanks all for your sentiment, which pretty much matches what I thought, but when I told the wife she got excited about not having a console, so I was looking again. Hence, starting this thread. I was actually surprised there wasn't one already.

I did the internet test and according to Google we are fine, but who knows in practice. I'm just going to sit back and see what prices are between Thanksgiving and Christmas with Playstation or Xbox and see what people say about Stadia. I was hoping the PS5 and new Xbox were coming out this year, so I could snag a really cheap PS4 or Xbox One. It's looking like they are shooting for 2020 Christmas instead.

My kids want a Switch, but it just looks way too much like the Wii we have had for 10 yrs. Same reason I didn't get a Wii U. How many super smash bros, mario, mario carts can we buy? The console converting to handheld means nothing to me because the kids all have tablets anyway if they want portable gaming. I would like to get back to Playstation or maybe try an Xbox. I have no loyalty to either.

Ha, I guess you aren't interested. It sat for 10 yrs at the in-laws with all the other old consoles and my son saw it and brought it back home. We couldn't find the games until a few days ago. We have had interest, but no actual shows yet after being on CL for a few days. We'll see, it's amazing what have been able to sell on CL for okay money.

I hear you. Surprised they didn't already know my internet speed based on how much Youtube I watch. A suped up PC doesn't interest us. Remember, we are coming from 10 yrs of Wii and tablets, so that would be a huge step. I would be totally happy with a PS4 or Xbox One. Don't know if we even need pro versions.

How long do the promos typically last and then are you able to get new ones? I'll definately need to look into that option.

They really only want a Switch for Fortnite and the portable aspect. I have 5 kids (only 4 care) and no way do I want to deal with who can play the switch by themself. That's why they all have their own tablets. They literally play the same Mario levels over and over and play SM3 on the Wii more than anything. However, once the PS2 was pulled out after finding the games. Tony Hawk 4 is their new favorite game.

Thing about Stadia is it requires a Chromecast for TVs and I have Firesticks (yeah my tvs are smart, but I like how Firesticks run Android, plus we have Prime). I have open HDMI ports, but still.

You have always been into the classics. A couple years ago I wanted in the old school Nintendo action with all the hype. Glad I didn't pay for a hand full of old games just because it had a HDMI cable. I could always do Raspberry Pie, but that's not what I'm looking for.

Fortnite was made for 7-10 year olds I believe. You see those kids doing dances all the time. That's from Fortnite whether they own the game or not.

Just got 50 bucks and it was only listed for 6 days.

There are new Xbox S 1TB Minecraft bundles on Ebay for $189 right now. Never seen it that low. I also just got an offer to buy a buddies PS4 Dec. 2020 when the 5 comes out. That's my wife's vote, but damn that's far off.

BTW, the kids aren't that stuck on the Switch. They mainly want to play Fortnite on a console and like the portable, but I'm not dealing with four kids fighting over a portable.

I went with the $185 S, it was just too hard to pass. When it comes in I will definitly use your tip and get the Ultimate game pass. Bring the thread back. Xbox wins for now before Stadia hits the market.
