What's everyone watching? Love horror flicks and have new chick i'm trying to scare the pants off.

What's good right now?

#3 2 years ago

I love horror flicks too but all the horror on netflix sucks these days. You will have to find some other way to get her pants off. The wife and I did enjoy Archive 81 but its a series. Also watched the first two episodes of Guardians of Justice and its totally fun and pretty dang gory.

There have been a few great ones. Ritual was one. As Above, So Below was another. Insidious too.

Nothing brand new, but just saw berlin syndrome and that was pretty dark. Also Hush is pretty good if you haven't seen it. Similar to The Strangers.

Sinister was probably the most chilling horror film I've seen in recent memory. I imagine that film left people wanting to sleep with the lights on.

I remember the ring was pretty creepy back when those films first came out.

The possession was suspenseful and a fairly solid horror film, but probably won't scare the pants off you.

Dead silence was good and creepy.

I think those are the few that immediately pop into my head that rise above 80s/90s classic horror camp.

#8 2 years ago

The most disturbing horror movie I've seen was Hostel. Not a date movie by any means but the movie premise is plausible and pretty sickening because of that. I kind of hate that I am promoting it here.

#9 2 years ago

The new Texas chainsaw sucks

#10 2 years ago

If horror movies are your thing, then go to Tubi.com
(I said there is many choices, I did not say they were good)

#11 2 years ago

The Boeing 737 Max doc is pretty horrifying.

I agree with your assessment of The Ring. I haven’t seen it in many many years but it freaked me out for some reason when I watched it. I should watch it again to see if I think the same now.

Get a shudder account. She’ll know you're serious

And yes, I understand that none of us have answered your Netflix question.

#14 2 years ago

Second for Shudder. You can usually get cheaper trial months. The Medium and the Wailing are pretty good Korean films on there.

On Netflix, the best I’ve seen recently is It Follows. I also recommend St Maud and Censor for more recent stuff. Horror is so tough because there are so many sub genres that hit different.

I know I’m off topic but if you really enjoy being scared, try playing a horror video game. Horror films just don’t scare me anymore but horror video games that’s another story. They scare the hell out of me! I don’t really play them anymore, because It got to the point where I dreaded playing a game I started.

I remember playing “Silent Hill” in my bedroom, and my wife knocked on the door while I was playing. I almost jumped out of my skin.

When you’re playing a horror video game,it feels like you’re part of the game, and not just watching, like you do with a movie.

#16 2 years ago

Thanks for the comments guys.

I did watch “I’m thinking of ending things” last night.

Wow is all I can say. More like a thriller but just the most bizarre movie I’ve ever watched.

#17 2 years ago

Most recently, the bear in Annihilation freaked me out.

Ditto - my wife liked the puzzle solving parts of Resident Evil 2 but wasn't interested in actually working the controller and would watch me play for hours. I'd find a key or clue and she'd be "Oh, that's for that room upstairs!" And I remember the feeling of dread when a door would open and you'd hear a squishing sound, knowing there were zombies in there....

Dead Space is one that I didn't look forward to playing at night...lol...a lot of it takes place in the dark on an abandoned space station, ammo is scarce, the creatures are fast and scary, but the game is great. I've played it twice and have Dead Space 2 and 3 too. The wife did NOT participate.

With surround sound and today's graphics, these games are damn near movies.

I did play Dead Space one and two,and I really enjoyed them. I also have DS 3,but I haven't played it yet.
As far as playing them at night time, that'll never happen.
I tried to strike up a conversation about PS3 games on the PlayStation thread, but it seems like if it's not a PS5 game,no ones interested?

It's actually called "I'm Thinking of Ending Things". But yes, it's extremely bizarre.

Weird film. But had me kinda intrigued.

I've always been a huge fan of horror movies since the 80's. After watching Hostel I won't watch any slasher/torture movies again. That movie was just sickening.

My wife and I really liked "the haunting of hill house" on netflix. It's a miniseries though. It has a really interesting deep storyline with plenty of truly scary moments.

Hill House was awesome - great slow burn and the Bent Neck Lady revelation....damn.

Event Horizon is another "slow burn", and the hell orgy scenes are intense. We'll sadly prolly never get the director's cut with the missing 20 minutes showcasing the hell orgy scenes in all their insidious and agonizing glory. There are descriptions floating around the internet of what we are missing in that scene. They're ...well... yeah, not for a first date.

Great movie. Just rewatched it recently and it's still amazing. Like a lot of old movies though, it's funny how many cigarettes they smoke. Fishburne literally has a smoke em if you got em line.

Also saw an article recently about that cut scene. It said they hired a bunch of porn stars to do it and it really was absolutely gnarly.

Yep. The descriptions are brutal. Someone doing dental work on another by drilling screws into their teeth while they are restrained and have no choice but to take it is a vicious scene to visualize.

One of many...

Midnight mass is another great mini series on netflix. Talk about slow burn. Though it's in the horror genre, it's much more cerebral, Loved it!

Just re-watched event horizon recently, that movie holds up pretty well.

#28 2 years ago

here is a start from flipping through the movie collection. not sure how many are on netflix.

Basket Case 1982
Beyond, The 1981
Black Cat, The 1981
Blackenstein 1973
Blacula 1972
Blue Velvet 1986
Body Bag 1993
Bone Tomahawk 2015
Boogens, The 1981
Brain Damage 1988
Braidead 1992
Burial Ground 1981
Burning, The 1981
CHUD 1984
Cabin in the Woods 2011
Candyman 1992
Cape Fear 1991
Car, The 1977
Carrie 1976
Cat in the Brain 1990
City of the Living Dead 1980
Child's Play 1988
Christine 1983
Contamination 1980
Creepshow 1982
Cube 1997
Cujo 1983
Dawn of the Dead 1978
Day of the Dead 1985
Dead Alive 1992
Dead and Buried 1981
Death Race 2000 1975
Death Wish 1974
Deliverance 1972
Devil Rides Out 1968
Duel 1971

Anything made by Hammer is usually good. If you are willing to go foreign, anything Fulci made in the 1980s is good horror with lots of gore.

I watched it untill the last 35 minutes, and then I shut it off. I just couldn't take it anymore. This was one of the most boring movies I've ever seen. My only regret is that I didn't shut it off sooner.

Totally get that. Like the talk in the car driving?

But I couldn’t stop watching. I wanted to know what the hell the movie was about. And I still don’t. Hahaha

I second Midnight Mass. The actors performances are outstanding and its such a unique take on vampires. Its far and away the best horror mini series Ive seen, but have to admit its a little light on the horror for me.

If you're into horror, Netfix isn't very deep although they are getting better. We supplement our horror thirst with "Shudder". Its a steaming service with only horror movies. Amazon has a very deep shelf of horror to stream over Netfix in my opinion.

I'll check into this. Horror films are about the only movies i enjoy.

EDIT: i checked their site. I do have a brand new smart tv. I'll have to figure out how to get it on there..

Another horror friend recommended Shudder when we were quarantining. Some TVs can download their app and some don't have it available. We ended up getting a "Roku" add on which our TV didn't have. Best Buy sells them.

A lot of the reviews said you should read the book the movie was based on first. Then watch the movie several times to understand all of the hidden meanings.
No movie is worth that much trouble to me. I almost shut it off during the car ride, but I decided to give it a shot, big mistake. My wife and I have a rule,if we don't like a movie after the first half hour,we shut it off. But we hung in there because we wanted to know what was going on too.
Not a big deal, but I won't break the half hour rule again, that's for sure.

The movie was so bizarre and i had to google to find out what was going on. Still not quite sure..

Have you ever watched House of 1000 corpses? You need to see it unedited.

#40 2 years ago

Did you watch the Fear Street trilogy? I enjoyed those.

Here's the horror that i've watched in the last 6 months

Scream (decent if you like scream movies)
Resident Evil: Welcome to racoon City (better than all the other resident evil movies)
The Deep House (a long stressful burn)
Old (one of the better M Night movies)
Don't Breathe 2 (decent)
Spontaneous (an unexpected riot)
Willy's Wonderland (hey, there's pinball)
Freaky (great horror take on Freaky Friday)
Ready or Not (fun)
Come Play (kids are creepy)
The two Babysitter movies (fun slashers)
Becky (a psycho Kevin James)
It Follows (good concept i hadn't seen before)
The Mortuary Collection (fun anthology type)

The new Texas chainsaw sucks

It was borderline unwatchable.

Clear my upvote
The Boeing 737 Max doc is pretty horrifying

Profits over people baby! Hide the truth if your airplanes are defective.

Really enjoyed fear Street. Most of Netflix contend is bad B movie stuff. Not really worth your time.

So have the last 7
It was horrible but kind of funny...def had a funny take on the kids these days.
It was at least a movie that looked like it was shot by professional film makers. Too many of these Horror movies look like school projects

“Antlers” was pretty decent. Dark, moody, and gory.

#48 2 years ago

Just from a quick look Army of the Dead and The Babysitter 1 and 2 are worth watching.

#49 2 years ago

If you can find it.
