What if they fire him for some reason ?

Quoted from ronaldvg:

Problem is..... I have never seen an overview from Stern or any other manufacturer that states what the gameplay of a machine eventually will be, so they do not need to get to a certain point with it. If they decide the machine is not worth any investment anymore, they can just abandon without any consequence.
After some years in this hobby I believe they don't even know themselves what the rules of a machine should be, they just make a basic ruleset, sell the machines and go from there. Everything after that is unknown. Nobody knows how long they will continue to support the game. Such a shame because there are so many titles that could benefit from some better code already out there.
Stern is a manufacturer. They make their money selling hardware. Software support is just overhead it seems.

if i had to make a video and pay 15000 for batman sle. i would be very unhappy with the code it was shipped with. what added value was received for the extra 5000? it was a money grab all the way.

Very limited run (80 total) and nice, aesthetic upgrades. Why is that so hard to understand?

Three people in my league bought SLEs. All great guys -- very friendly -- with 15-20 games in immaculate condition in their home collections. The purchases were clearly funded with disposable income, and I haven't seen one of them on Pinside (or offline) complaining about the early code.

Quoted from o-din:

Too busy counting their money to pay attention to game rules or code is my guess.

Nah, too busy running their businesses and spending time with their families. They have so many games in their collections that having early code on one of them is not a big deal, especially when they know its being developed by Lyman.

Isn't that what I said?

Nope. Running the business generates the money. Counting the money doesn't run the business.

Quoted from musketd:

LYMAN always takes awhile for code, but trust me it is worth the wait just look at his games like Metallica, TWD, or AcDc which all were just ok out the gate and now are killer games. If you own one of those I'm sure someday you will want a batman 66. The problem with such other games as ghostbusters they are what they are out of the gate and not much changes at all but with LYMAN a ton of stuff changes and gets to be awesome in the end

Quoted from PinMonk:

After playing 0.65 more tonight, there seems to be only 4 modes sketched out: Catwoman, Joker, Riddler, Penguin. When you finish them, it starts over rather than lighting the "Batman" insert or the one below that. I say "sketched out", because those modes are there, but the video and mode progression is super-basic. I'm not even sure I'd give this release a number over 0.50.

Quoted from iceman44:

Lyman is great, chill out.

I agree with ALL of the above.

In my honest opinion, people need to learn to take the long view with respect to Lyman's work flow.

Regarding code development, Lyman's creative process appears to be similar to that of a sculptor, chipping away at a marble block diligently and purposefully until the image reveals itself.

From a creative perspective, Lyman reminds me of Michelangelo, and two of Michelangeo's famous quotes speak to this concept:

-- "Every block of stone has a statue inside it, and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it."

-- "I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free."

But will Lyman be allowed to finish his work, and can fans wait for the end result?

This conundrum is the TRUE meaning of Lyman's Lament.

"Totally!"

I'm sure a masterpiece will emerge!

It wouldn't be unprecedented.

To take forever, but make great code.
