Quoted from Anony:

They usually give the free update if you buy within 1-2 months of the new version coming out. If you contact IT they should be able to tell you the exact timeframe.

Ok cool. Yeah I may be waiting a couple more months then which I'm cool with. I left a voice mail with I.T and asked my distributor about it, will let ya guys know what I hear back.

#3302 10 months ago

I received a reply from I.T regarding when the 2023 / 2024 software update will be free when purchasing a new PGA cabinet. The software update will be included with cabinet purchases starting in July. Guess I'm waiting until July 1st to order a PGA Clubhouse edition.

I would reach back out to them and DOUBLE CHECK to make sure that the free upgrade deal is also good for the Clubhouse Edition version of the game. I can see where they might offer this for commercial game sales, but I'd be surprised if that deal followed through to the clubhouse edition sales too.

Yeah thankfully it is, I left a voice mail with the I.T Consumer Sales Manager and she replied back using my email address on file. She put "PGA Tour Clubhouse Edition" in the title. My distributor also reached out and got the same reply.

I.T offered the same or similar promotion for Home Edition cabinets in previous years.

Absolute bull shit that they are not letting the legacy players enjoy the remastered courses. The PGA courses I understand, but the remastered ones? Lame.

And the casual freaky courses are gone in Legacy now too. So much for "supporting the platform for 5 more years."

Yes it is, they are starting some lame marketing stuff to get people to upgrade to the new PGA Cabinets. It also seems that 2023 and 2024 updates are being combined which means a year is being skipped? All of this stuff is why I wanted to sell my legacy cabinet now, it's likely going to get worse. Get around $3k now for a legacy cabinet, pay a couple grand to upgrade, and enjoy all the new stuff for years to come was my thinking. That couple grand difference can easily be spent in legacy yearly updates over the final few years of support.

#3308 10 months ago

Holy shit. Didn't see that coming. Create-a course??? New game mode?? I feel sorry for the legacy guys, but this was BADELY needed for this series!

While it is nice to see they are trying some new modes it is indeed bullshit that the legacy machines aren't getting the remastered courses. It's only 2 more years, seems desperate to be pushing us to the new machines so hard at this point. Why offer support if it's going to be half baked?

#3310 10 months ago

They should have at least given people what they‘ve always gotten in the past. It’s a strange move to take away the freaky Friday and remastered courses.

But I do think PGA gets too much hate. It had been something like 15-20 YEARS since the platform had a major revision. We can’t all expect online connected arcade games to operate connected forever.

Most people got more support than any other company on earth, so to begrudge them a new platform after so long is silly.

Yup. A majority of the PGA cabinet hate is coming from people that don't like the idea of spending the money to upgrade, not because they don't like the new platform. I get it as many have money invested into the cabinet and yearly hardware updates. However, like you said the legacy platform is 15 - 20 years old, it was time for something new. The graphics and older hardware were holding the future of GT back.

I was wondering if this would happen (a new platform release) when I bought a home edition cabinet in early 2020 and sure enough it did about 2 1/2 years later. It sucked but it was the risk I took. Still, after selling my home edition it's "only" going to be $2k to upgrade. That $2k could easily be spent with the remaining home edition updates over the next few years. In pinball land that's the price of a new topper from Stern lol.

More and more people are going to get onboard with the PGA cabinets, it's just a matter of time.

I have the money to upgrade. NO fucking way am I doing it. Watching the absolute shit-show that has been platform management since 2019, I have absolutely zero confidence that the Amusement Games division is going to do any better with future planned stuff. I'm already a lost cause. They had better keep pandering to their casino customers so they can continue to prop up their amusement gaming division, because I have a feeling the latter isn't profitable at the moment.

Agreed, a couple of cup holders, LED lights and a few more courses…hard pass for another 2-3k. Already want to sell my GT home 2022 and get a big buck hunter.

Eh, I'd say you're like 80% right here. There are a lot of legitimate complaints that can be made about the PGA machines. If they wanted to future proof for another 20 years why are they using such old hardware in these things? The video card is a joke and there's a reason the graphics are barely any better than the legacy ones. I expected much more significant changes to the engine with the PGA upgrade but it's basically the exact same game with a new coat of paint.

If we don't see development of the PGA version pick up substantially after legacy is discontinued it's going to be a continued, slow decline for golden tee in my opinion.

#3315 10 months ago

I bought my GT pga deluxe version a few months ago. I just sent a email asking how they are going to handle the upgrade to 23/24 for my machine. In my eyes I should be getting a free upgrade. Will have to wait to see what they decide to do. Like most I would have waited to buy if I knew new software was around the corner

Well said Brad. I added to your post on FB.

Instead of saying they would 'support' the legacy cabinets for 5 years, they should have said 'support will decline each year' for 5 years. So what's next- next year we only get 3 new courses?

As a 30+ year player, I'm disappointed with their path to making the legacy cabinets obsolete. It has been a shit show for a while now. Not sure if that is related to Don Pesceone's departure from IT or not.

I dunno, should we have to shoulder all that cost? At the end of the day I think the PGA version is better suited for arcades/bars/location play. But hey we buy pins so I guess we do!

Yeah but who was asking for it? Maybe it will bring a whole new generation of fans to the game but I really doubt it

#3320 10 months ago

We don’t know what their plans are, and we won’t until the legacy systems are dropped. Could be awesome, could be garbage. The couple unexpected features in the next update gives me a little more hope.

The PGA rollout didn’t go well, but you’d think they’ve built up a little more goodwill then they have by supporting the old system for so long and being generally good to their user base.

So I posted this pic to facebook a few days ago and it caused quite a stir. Lots of people upset about losing features on legacy before the 5 years of support promise is up.

Kevin Lindsay, an IT staffer tried to smooth things over by saying that there are a bunch of features coming to home editions that people are going to love and that legacy machines will likely still get online support even after they stop getting updates. He also said there is a chance the cost of the legacy update will be cheaper than the PGA one, but my guess is it will be the same as all other years but the PGA one will be more expensive.
He also tried to say that they are not skipping a year, just calling this one 2023/2024 after some distros said they were getting calls from clients asking about if they were going to lose a year of promised support over this. LIndsay wasn't really clear on whether the next year will be the last or not since it will be a 2024/2025 update and they said 2025 was the last year of support for legacy.

Quite a shit show but they seem to be aware of how much backlash this is causing.

Also someone looked at the world qualifying entries and made the point that there are fare more hardcore players who play HEs these days with the bar/arcade situation being as bad as it is in North America. If IT wants to avoid losing their loyal fanbase they need to cater more to the HE players and stop this pipedream that a PGA license will bring in a bigger audience. There was already a PGA golf arcade game and no one gave a fuck about it, so why would they care about Golden Tee now that it's called PGA?

#3322 10 months ago

This is great! Anyone else share AT HOME rules for buddies that come over and play?

Quoted from nascarrey:

I play 95% of my rounds at home alone. I still play a few at the bar with some friends.
Occasionally I'll have them over to spin a few and we'll play $1 games.
$1 closest to the pin (must be on the green) on the par 3's
$1 skins (no carryovers)
$1 for GSP on a hole
$1 for HIO
Something to play for and it's entertaining.
I have a 55" tv, some prefer a 50", but when I bought my HE tv's were cheap- so why not the 55"!
PanzerFreak - LMK what you find out on the free update- still on the fence on the PGA, this could influence my decision.

So what is the point of online? I have PGA, and like the season pass where I can win stuff for my characters...But what's the real point of online?

Are the tourney's fun? You have to pay to play them right?

tracking your stats and being able to play at other machines with your character are two of the big things you get from online. Also having custom bag setups and custom ball types. You can play in events and win money but you have to be insanely good to win against the guys who play 20 games a day.

Does anyone know about CPU compatibility with legacy machines? If I get something that is compatible with my motherboard am I guaranteed to have it work, or is there a list of compatible processors?

Golf seems to be pretty forgiving. Target Toss not so much.

For the socket 1155 motherboards, stay with the Intel G620.

Mine is 1155 with a G540 in it right now. I just updated the motherboard to try and fix an issue I've been having and was wondering if a new CPU would improve general performance. The game stutters quite a bit on the attract screen, menus and between holes. The 620 and 540 have pretty similar performance though so if the 620 is fast enough then it's probably not the CPU that's giving me issues.

#3328 10 months ago

Anyone near Denver want golden tee parts? Full nighthawk, video cards, motherboards, probably a cpu maybe a card read / keypad stuff like that? I just want this stuff gone.

I won’t ship.

I notice this happening on my HE intermittently also.

Only one of the invitations is loading for me when I log in. I accepted both from Jalpert, it shows on the app. But in game I only had one to do?

Try rebooting the machine? Or maybe it’ll pop in after you play the one you have.

Hi Everyone,

Question for the group - why am I seeing different pricing for the Deluxe PGA Tour Home Edition? I’m used to pinball distributors having equal pricing across the board. I also see some distributors offer free shipping while others are charging a hefty amount.

While I want to protect my bottom line, I also want to balance a good distributor and customer service.

Did anyone buy their game from a non-pinball distributor with cheaper pricing or free shipping? If so, how was your experience?

Thanks in advance!

#3341 8 months ago

This guy:

https://www.midwestgamingstore.com/

Great service, great price.

Not just him but anyone, talk them down. See how low they will go. Don’t hesitate to ask.

His website says they are in stock.

I wouldn't go with anyone charging more than the stated price from IT. IT is doing free shipping this weekend too so you could probably just order directly from them.

I just got in a bunch of cutdown commercial lives that I’ll be selling. One is a 2015. Couple of 2017, and like 4 2020s. Most are running newer nighthawks with IMBM mobos and 1050 cards. A couple have DG75 and gt430 but whatever. Cabs are cutdown fore’s in operator condition lol.

I put new 80 quality power supplies, batteries, and buttons on all these, and recondition the trackball.

1900 for the 15

2200 for the 17s each

2400 for the 20s each

Price includes tv and a stand but no dba. Knock off $100 if you don’t want tv/stand.

Pickup, cash near Baltimore.

Thanks
Mike

Good prices, people should jump on these.

If I was not in Canada I'd be interested.

I wanted to get one of those IMBM mobos to try in my machine since I've been trying different hardware setups to see which is the smoothest and they want like $1000 for them on ebay! No idea why.
