Got offered a T2 today and I'm going to look at it later on. What are some known issues, wear areas to look for, and general hesitations I should be worried about with this pin? It's a routed machine, but there are a couple issues the seller said he'd fix before selling it. At $1500, it seems like it might be worth pursuing. I'm going to look at it regardless, just wanted to get your impressions, thoughts, ideas about it.

If it just needs cosmetics, is it a no brainer? Is it a "sister" pin to TAF as far as mechanics and electricals go? That would also be one of my main reasons for buying it. I will get a TAF eventually, but if I can "practice" repairs on a pin that's extremely similar and cheaper, all the better.

What do y'all think?

Sounds like a great deal to me. It's a Bally Williams like Addams is so everything will be a lot alike.
Game play is different enough so they should go together nice in the future.

WEAR.

These machine wear the hell out from over play. Probably the most played pin of the era.

The head takes a bashing and the plastics start to break around that area. I'm sure the HK ship is wrecked as well. The targets get beat to hell. And with a highly played machine comes beer soak.

Of course, check the GI connectors and battery acid damage

Cracks in the bottom of the skull, make sure the cannon works.

What I've seen:
Check the batteries for corrosion. If the seller says "Pinball machines have batteries??" then you really need to check them.
Burned GI connectors, broken stuff on the playfield like the ship, or the "SKYNET COMMAND CENTER" & "ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE" signs over the ramps.
The area around the pop bumpers is worn on mine.

Good luck, I've enjoyed working on mine.

My only honest answer to your question is: You should look for a T3!

Great posts all! I knew there were more than a few that owned them here, that's why I knew you'd come up with good stuff.

All items added to the list.

Thanks!

When a t2 is half the price?

T2 is great! lots of cool mods. Always a crowd pleaser.
Check HK Ship. Skull. Check cannon...make sure it works. Just give it a good once over and play a bunch of games. Don't sweat the super-small stuff. If there is major wear on the playfield...pass.

And twice as fun.

Well, to me T3 is at least twice as fun as T2, but you can also find T2s for around $2k, maybe even a bit less (as noted in a recent thread here).

T2 is a 2k game now? Is my no fear up to 3k yet?

#13 11 years ago

what do t3s go for?

#15 11 years ago

ha!!!! thanks rascal

Did you buy it? I bought one this year. I'd say look for raised inserts and insert wear. Raised can be fixed even with a low skill level like me. Insert wear is a whole other animal though. I have learned to live with such.

Very good game.

dammit, I meant to say that you can find T*3*'s for around $2k, maybe even a bit less. Mistyped--sorry.

T3 for under 2k would be a find. I'd certainly be on it

Ah that makes more sense.

Me too! I really like the Terminator theme and movies.

Report:

Well, it's got some decent playfield wear. Weren't these pins all "diamond plated" or factory mylared? It looks like there was no protective coating anywhere. It was down to wood in about a 2" by 3" wide area just above the right flipper, before that red light bar thing. There was playfield wear up around the top bonus multiplier lanes(or whatever they're called). The Terminator skull was being propped up by something covered in tape. The DMD had a few lines dark and a few lines out. There were other more minor things that needed attention as well, but they escape my memory right now. It was on location and I'm sure the manager guy who escorted me in wanted to be somewhere else right then. I think I'm going to pass on it. It's not a pin I ultimately want nor have any affinity towards and it seems like a bit more work than I want to undertake for a pin I don't love.

That's the bad news.

The good news:

Also in that same location he had a WH20 that looked fantastic! Zero playfield wear(just dirty), it had the topper, factory mylar looked great(no bubbling), and the cabinet was straight(albeit knicked up a bit, nothing major). What do you think I should offer him? I'm thinking $2K just because I don't think he thinks about playfield wear and fixes as a real issue and just has a general idea what that amount of machinery is worth. Not really a collector kind of guy, just a regular joe operator. Can't hurt to ask, right? I'll talk to him on Monday about it.....

Yes!...pass on the T2. Or offer $600.
If you like the other machine...offer low and let him come up. Even better to have him offer a price...and then go DOWN from there....

Run away from the t2. If he wants that much for a beat up t2 I can't imagine what his asking price would be for a good quality wh20. Doesn't hurt to ask I guess.

#24 11 years ago

That is not surprising on a t2 still on location

I agree completely. From the description, it sounds terrible - especially at $1,500.

And mine does not seem to have any factory coating.
