Quoted from CrazyLevi:midtown Manhattan for peanuts, rent stabilized so we have it cheap until we move out - our reward for sticking it out when everybody else freaked out and moved in with their parents in the suburbs. Current market rate for an apartment this size is $1,500 a month more than we are paying.
So long story short...yay capitalism!!!
It's rent control that you are bragging about, not capitalism.
Your landlord is subsidizing your rent, preventing him from getting the market rate so you can enjoy the return on his investment while you live there.
You really mean to say, "yay rent stabilization!!"
