Quoted from CrazyLevi:but I think they'll bring back some form of their SE model.
Seems really dumb for them to simply concede the pro market to Stern.
Do you think they'd actually price it at a Stern Pro though? Operators generally aren't buying JJP for several reasons and Godfather does not scream location pinball as a theme.
Quoted from CrazyLevi:No, of course not. Stern Pros will always be the cheapest, best value on the market.
But they are completely conceding the operator market by having nothing below $12K and I just don't see the logic in that
Their "pro" at around $9K would at least keep them in the game. But then maybe I'm way off, and they just have zero desire/ability to compete in that market. Not sure if they moved that many GNR or Wonka SEs, you just don't see them.
The GNR SE was probably a waste of their time in the grand scheme of things. The only SEs I've ever seen were ops waiting for the LE.
JJP should distinguish themselves as the upscale luxury pin. They should be trying to get people like Eon Productions to ask them for a 60th anniversary piece...
Quoted from acedanger:I heard it will take pictures of you waking up next to a decapitated horse head during spaghetti & meatball multiball
I was thinking if it takes photos it should make them mugshots
Opening the bed sheet as an animation could be the mystery award, match animation, or extra ball animation... Should be somwehere
Quoted from CrazyLevi:Will used length of wire be the new coil count?!
Before Spike, Gary would say a pinball machine had as much wiring as a car. Such a unique comparison that puts it into perspective as I am very familiar with car manufacturing!
Quoted from TheLaw:Heavy=quality!
I'm about to release my upgrade kit for Sterns where you put a bag of sand in the bottom of the cabinet to give the game a bit more weight and a more premium feel. Easily reversible!
Bruce Willis was wearing an earpiece for lines in his last few movies (you can sometimes actually see the earpiece) which was kinda amusing until they later said it was because he was diagnosed with aphasia and is in the early stages of dementia. Then it became sad to know he is going through a serious medical condition and he was being shoved in front of a camera only semi-aware of what was going on.
Quoted from Joeymonkey:He definitely deserved an Oscar for Godfather. It's an amazing performance. But the lines taped to actors' bodies is true in this case. Doesn't discount his awesome work, but it helped him achieve what he was doing. [quoted image]
It was also in part because they were changing scripted dialogue on a near daily basis at times.
Quoted from HornerSyndrome:Although it’s not my first choice for a theme I would pick, I do like this movie and other gangster movies. I find it odd that people can’t comprehend this as a theme given there is a Sopranos pinball already. To be fair I’ve never played one and it’s currently ranked #133 so I could certainly be missing something? Also, “Mafia” is a 2018 pin by Team pinball - who knew?
I agree a lot of people are lacking imagination
Though tonal, Sopranos is very different than the Godfather. As serious as the show can be, the Sopranos has a surprisingly funny side and can be meta in the way the characters will joke about mafia movie tropes.
I like the idea of building an empire as a member of the family. That's how EA made one of their Godfather games. Take over rackets, invest in them to make more money, and protect them from rivals
pasted_image (resized).png
Could be cool if you could form a crew, ie pick some gang members that give the player some game power ups to mix up gameplay strategies.
Quoted from Dan1733:I look forward to being endlessly shamed if I buy it and pinsiders do not unanimously agree its a good value.
You're ruining the industry by buying the products for sale!
My initial reactions are I like it overall. Layout seems fresh with a few interesting ideas. Game code from what I read seems structured like how I thought it would be.
Good job team. Now let the complaining begin!
I'm kinda into how gaudy the CE is? It was jarring at first. I love the stain glass motif going on the screen.
I wonder if Franchi had input on the cabinet decoration? I remember him telling a story about trying to put real casket handles on Munsters LE.
Quoted from pinball_keefer:In fact, regarding the inlane target, you should be accusing us of ripping off Vonnie D!
Kinda amusing considering he was a scammer that went to jail for selling drugs, and now you have a game about building up a criminal enterprise.
Quoted from Thunderbird:29 ball paths via diverters, wow!
step aside coil counting, we got ball path counting!
Such an interesting detail to put on the flyer...
Quoted from CrazyLevi:Italians should get a discount on this game!!
A five finger one? Sir, that is racist and I refer you to the American Italian Anti-Defamation League. They will strongly be protesting that and this game…unless you slip them a few cannolis
Just call them wizard modes and then say the super duper mega extreme wizard mode isn't programmed
Also it is amusing people are clamoring for a code update to a game hardly anyone owns, and of them even fewer would ever actually be able to qualify said super duper mega extreme wizard mode. And said mode would probably just be "here's all the balls, it's all lit for jackpots, go nuts for a while" like most hard to achieve wizard modes. But that would be one less thing they could complain about
When did "mini" wizard modes become the common name? I mostly think of Stern Iron Maiden for helping popularize the term, but also I've only been in the hobby for 10 years or so.
I think as a concept they existed for a while, like Alien Invasion on TSPP is a "mini wizard" mode that is very elaborate but I don't hear it called a mini-wizard mode...but it is very much the thing of "here's a special mode for doing this list of objectives, but this isn't the end of the game" which is what most consider to be "mini-wizard modes"
Quoted from Dan1733:I don't want to get too far afield in a GF thread.
But why would it take more than 5 minutes to program a "final" wizard mode on POTC? Hit all the major shots twice. Or maybe hit all of the 22 characters. Very final shot is shooting the queen anne one last time. Start all over again.
Done! I've just "programmed" the final wizard mode.
Even better just have the game end at the end of the final wizard mode. I think it's cool that some games have a proper ending sequence and then it rolls credits.
I also just think it would be amusing for someone who has waited years for this to say "that's it?" and then realize it didn't fill the void in the soul. Use the camera to capture their disappointment.
Has anyone noticed any oranges in the game yet? As some may have noticed, the Godfather movies have oranges when death is about to happen
Don Fanucci was buying oranges when Vito kills him, Vito uses one to play with his grandson before dying, the movie producer guy is eating dinner at a table with a bowl of oranges before the horse head thing, etc
Quoted from m00nmuppet:The same people celebrating Godfather would be screaming bloody murder if it had been released first and then Godzilla a couple years later. They would say, look, total rip off, bumper, flipper, ramps, all the same place. They wouldn't accept the obviously fake stories like, but but but the GZ whitewood and sketches were done before GF got released. It's a shamless theft of the still-better Elwin layout. Let the downvotes commence, but this kind of ripping off is still rampant in apps and video games, where they take a hit game and change it from jewels to balloons, or something cosmetic like that. Sucks that it made its way over to pinball.
I really don't see the similarities you see, other than the pop in a similar spot, there being an upper left flipper, and a central bash toy (which is totally different). It also has its own original ideas
Quoted from CrazyLevi:Data East had a nice 3 year window to steal the T2 layout for Lethal Weapon 3!!!
Didn't that go to court and the judgment was you can't protect a layout, just mechanics and software features?
Bally and Williams sued each other over the smashing sucess of Rapid Fire and Hyperball, and the court came to the same conclusion
>The court held that the elements which plaintiff argued are copyrightable are common to virtually all pinball games and therefore, not protectable. The color, shapes, target placements, ball, grip handles, and lights are not functional elements of the game and are not protected.

The attract lightshow being so rainbowy doesn't fit the theme, but it does get your attention. Watching the video, I think they did show restraint in going nuts with colors (for the most part) and the light shows looked alright to me. Idk....I don't hate colors. I don't find them as aesthetically jarring as the realistic Vito sculpt next to the cartoony mafia grunt.
I definitely agree that whomever is doing the sound effects needs to ditch the slot machine sounds. JJP games sound like they belong on a casino floor.
Quoted from dpadam450:"JJP, please. This is an intervention. You're addicted to rainbows, it's hurting you, and you need to seek help."
Well every game on the website lists how many LED's it has. This one has 450 on their sales bullet point list. I never understood random lighting either. In videogames/movies you have full-times job called lighting artist to place lights and color them to fit moods of the scenes. I played Hot Wheels for the first time last week and one mode the whole playfield went super dark red and flashy and I hated it and couldn't see much. Cactus Canyon is another one that goes into epilepsy mode and I can barely see a ball due to blinded flashing.
Part of that is because pinball is fundamentally a coin-op experience. Intense light shows are supposed to both entrance the player and make it more difficult to play (so the game is quicker and the machine can make more money). But maybe that philosophy should change as more games end up in non-commercial environments?
Quoted from pinball_keefer:I'm hesitant to do this, but let me try and contextualize some of it.
Thanks for trying.
Maybe you can make an all white light show version for the people upset that their luxury toy full of RGB lighting is sometimes colorful while they play pretend mafioso.
(Also shout out for the health bar cutout for the hot rails. Cool way to represent that info somewhere other than the screen)
Quoted from djsolzs:Serious question - does everyone really think they will be making massive changes to sounds and lighting at this point? I don’t think I believe they would release this game with these types of “placeholders”
I don’t think they will (or need to) but also this happened before
CB496AD6-6D8E-4302-B8E4-3E1C0F543E0C (resized).jpeg
But that was a weird time of seeing games developed along the way.
Quoted from SLAMT1LT:Oh dear, you guys are in trouble. As I've said 3 times now, code and audio design need to be first class to save this pin. What you're witnessing here is economy class code and audio design.
JJP have superstar artists, designers and animaters... but are missing the two most important talents - coder and audio designer.
Just so happens I'm the best in the biz at pinball code and audio design. If they make me an offer I can't refuse, maybe I can help them.
Has anyone ever heard that if something is funny keep doing it until it's not funny...but if you keep at it, it will eventually become funny again? (Think Sideshow Bob repeatedly walking on rakes or The Story of Everest on Mr Show)
That's how I read Slamt1lt's posts now. They were amusing, then annoying, but now they're hysterical to me.
Anyhow carry on. Boo the color pink or whatever people are complaining about now.
During multiballs, can you relock balls on the playfield? It's fun when you can park a ball during a multiball, like Metallica, and the game rewards it with more controlled play and a timed playfield x. Godfather seems to have a lot of physical ball locks on the playfield
Beginner players love multiball. Most intermediate players like multiball. It's really just the advance players that can get sick of multiball (because they're so good). So maybe give them more advance and difficult objectives like making them relock balls?
I think Terror of Mechagodzilla is a brilliant multiball mode on Godzilla. It's limited flips while trying to relock balls and is multiphased. And the game smartly puts this advance rule concept behind a bunch of other objectives. So beginners won't be confused by it as they won't see it, intermediate players will only occasionally see and appreciate how different it is then the rest of the game, and the advance players have a unique multiball to try to maximize their scoring on.
Or maybe if you're bringing multiballs into multiballs, the game can give you special different objectives based on the combination. Idk
Or maybe once you play certain multiball modes you have to do other stuff before you can replay one. Or in subsequent MBs you are locked out of advancing the other MBs during the active MB.
It mostly sounds like people don't like the "here's a bunch of balls and everything is lit" approach of multiball
I thought it looked great
Didn’t understand the rules and it looks like it could be hard to learn where a shot is going to divert to. But sounds, art, lights, and video looked good. Playfield is doing interesting stuff.
Mandatory “it’s expensive” inclusion
Quoted from Rensh:Perhaps already discussed in which I would like to apologize but I would like to compliment my fellow countrymen Jesper, with help of JP de Win, with the great work he did on the playfield art
Franchi ‘only’ did cabinet on which he did a good job by the way.
See this post https://www.behance.net/gallery/165489469/The-Godfather-by-JerseyJackPinball
Very cool seeing how the art progressed over time.
I saw this on reddit today. It's an AR app to help explain pinball rules and shots. JJP hire him to explain how to play your games...

Can Keefer bring back D'oh Frenzy, but it's a bunch of mobster callouts going "hey" and "oh" with a heavy accent.
I'm trying to not get too into certain stereotypes...but also I'd love to hear a "that's a spicy meatball" after a super jackpot.
Quoted from iepinball:HAHA, this is my stream that someone just cropped down to the playfield only. Wonderful.
Full vid is up on YouTube in 4k:
It was cool for you to play a few minutes with just direct audio, especially on such a new game.
Considering the ever rising cost in manufacturing pinball machines, offering a compelling software package has become necessary. The software package has to accommodate a wide range of user skill and preferences, which is more diverse than ever.
Games have recently started to offer more ways to play. Jumping straight to the unique wizard modes that most would never see (Are You A God, Escape Nublar) has been great. It's a mini game for most users and the special wizard mode treat for the very talented players. There are also more ways to play in a group with things like co-op play and hero mode. This makes it fun for a group of various skill levels.
A growing number of players want a more cinematic pinball experience. Maybe that is a new gameplay style that could be created. Less focus on scoring, number of balls, and something where a home user can experience/show-off a game that is more about presentation than just survival and score attacks. Less complicated side objectives and a greater focus on cinematic moments. Reusing modes from the main game would teach the player.
As a tangent, more games should consider tutorial and training modes. The P3 offers a cool minigame that is designed entirely around teaching basic aiming skills. Perhaps a game could slowly layer on additional complex rules after so many plays, similar to how complicated role playing video-games slowly add new mechanics, complexity, and nuance. Some people like getting in early on games because they enjoy seeing code develop where new modes are added after they learned others
Quoted from MacGruber:I believe it's the exact same as Jack's new Foo game. After hitting that target the next shot is worth double, trying to reward controlled play
Also trying to tempt the player into shooting it before a more valuable shot. It’s a 10x shot multiplier if you hit it after going through the inlane. Very tempting to try an on the fly shot at that target…
Did anyone else notice this is the 50th anniversary game of The Godfather. A movie that came out in March 1972. And it’s March 2023.
Now I wasn’t a math major… but yeah. I guess they technically squeezed it in before the end of the 50th year
Quoted from PinMonk:$12k Canadian is only ~$8700 USD. Where's our Canadian pinball company?
Let me introduce you to Punny Factory
He's one of the best players alive...I wouldn't worry that much about how he is able to exploit things us mortals can only theorize of doing with the glass off
Quoted from NickBuffaloPinball:Please tell me this line is in the game...
[quoted image]
That would be a great callout if you drain with a massive jackpot collect uncollected
Quoted from NickBuffaloPinball:The tone of the movie? It's based on the movie, the movie is a serious crime family drama.
The game, to make it work in pinball, exists in the "Godfather universe". Admittedly, the tone is lighter in the pinball than the movie.
The Sopranos game, another serious crime family drama, took roughly the same approach. Although, that game almost makes Sopranos look like a comedy.
Sopranos has a really funny streak to it
One of my favorites is when Big Pussy thinks he's having a heart attack at a brothel and a random customer who happens to be a doctor comes in to help him while half dressed in a cleaning outfit that is part of some kink
