Since Eric and Keith are on the backglass that plastic could be one of the other creators ?

Quoted from Cobray:

I'll help JJP, they can send the free game for my services later :
Background music should be the theme song from the movies. Seriously. Spice it up with some Axl playing it on guitar when things get exciting. Hell, if you're dead set on flute music, play the theme song on flute!
Replace the Ching/chang sounds with "switch hit confirmation sounds". If you need to know what this means, play some of the non jjp games and listen to the "satisfying" sound of a target getting hit. We don't need to feel like we're in a casino or Chuck E Cheese watching our kid play for tickets.
Callouts should be cuts from the movie, not the janitor you pulled into a sound room and told him to read from a phrase card real quick while you recorded it. If licensing got in the way, get a sound-alike.
Tone down the rainbow colors... more Red, white. Save the skittles show for attract or special occasions like multi ball. And yes, multi ball should be a special occasion lol.

This.

Quoted from Pinfidel:

Couple movie pics with him in a hat.
If you look at the sling plastic, it looks like he has a very faint mustache too. You guys see that, or is that just me? Cause Vito has the stache.
It's definitely not Robert Duvall and I doubt they'd put a random unknown guy on such a prominent spot on the game. That has to be DeNiro.
[quoted image]

I dont know what you guys are smoking, its DeNiro. The same hat angle, the eyebrows..

So, based on the first and only gameplay reveal we have seen
This is exactly why official gameplay videos should be released alongside the promo reveal.
Now JJP has to explain/justify what we are and are not seeing/hearing but we still don’t really know what’s going on.
Anyway that carnival music does not belong in this theme at all, in any mode

Iirc they did this with Toy Story! Which makes this decision even more odd.

The tommy gun guy really sticks out to me like a sore thumb in this game - this is not an original thought, just sharing to make this a slightly longer post. I do think it looks fun to shoot, though.

I kind of think that guy is Jimmy Caan. Same chin.

Played it today at AYCE Gogi West Hills. Had the LE to myself for an hour! Game is an instant classic. Very attractive and well built. Playfield design is satisfying and does not feel like godzilla at all; much more open bottom half of the playfield with most of the shots and action in the upper half. I did not get bored playing ten games in a row and wanted to keep playing. IMHO the playfield design is the best among recent offerings like TS4, Rush, Bond, and Scooby-Doo (which I like). Quality wise, build is a step above anything I've seen elsewhere. There is no doubt this is the greatest gangster theme pinball of all time!

Now I do have to say I had a bit of an issue with the theme integration. I love the Godfather films, but they are very serious films that don't lend themselves to being chopped into little segments and repeated over and over. Neither does the music, really. I didn't pay close attention to the code, but in some way the board/video game elements almost cheapen the original material of the film. I think if you love the Godfather and Italian mobster culture there is no doubt this is the pin for you. If you just love pinball and want this machine because it plays great and it's among the most beautiful made pins ever, you might end up keeping the volume down around the house. I personally found the call-outs grating after an hour.

last thing, for 12k you'd think they'd include some art blades on there. (gold mirrored?)

How does rainbow lighting make any sense in the Godfather? The whole series is practically sepia toned.

Quoted from insight75:

Ironically I was debating on making a "crap on Godfather" thread to keep the echo chamber free of the negative comments. I do find just dumping on a game over and over in the fsves that spent so much money sorta tasteless.

It’s 15k and they made a thousand. There will be no issue getting one and spoiler alert - you’ll get it lower than msrp + tax ; )
I had two distributors contact me already on this game looking to unload. Don’t fall for it guys. If you just don’t care about losing money like some people here - sure! Go for it. But don’t feel pressured to buy now due to fake fomo.

Man is this personal for you or what?Damn you just come off so pissed over this game!

Try playing your Godzilla with a black and white playfield and GE 47 bulbs, that’ll suck the fun out of it real quick.

I get the godfather approach they went for. When I first thought of the movie as a pin, it was super different in my head (godfather cinematographer sven nykvist was known as “the prince of darkness”). I would like a pure drama game but they went hybrid to make it approachable. The game in my head would prob be the best game ever but nobody would want to play it but me. Keefer also said in the interview something like “the movie is a drama and you can’t really play a drama you need action”. So I get that they had to lean in a certain direction.

Prob my fav game is Alien ambiance wise and I play the standard version in pitch black and It’s the closest thing in pinball to match the immersion of a movie. Most people could barely see the ball on my setup though.

#2067 1 year ago

Man the sounds and lighting in this game are a mess. Kills the theme completely. Really surprised how bad of a swing and a miss this seems.

So all you downvoters like a rainbow light show with slot machine sounds in a gangster theme I guess?

Here’s my worthless 2 cents: they made an original fun gangster pin that was light in touch and put the Godfather assets on it to give it a licensed recognizable theme. We were all asking “How the hell do you turn a dark brooding slow movie, the greatest of all time, into a pin ?” This is how.

The best comparable ? How would you make a pin about a Pest Control company that kills mice ? Mousin around.

They tried that with the GF pin. It doesn’t work for me, but I’m sure it does for some. This explains the lighting, the animations, the cast figures including tommy gun, the music. It is as if you turned the Godfather into a Saturday morning kids cartoon. It’s an interesting take for sure.

#2075 1 year ago

I though initially I could be in for a CE as I am one of those who do like the theme a lot. But the more I saw of it the less I was digging it. Looks like another JJP pass for me. Becoming a cheaper year in pinball for me by the day at the moment. Probably out of Bond LE and possibly Scooby too. I'll keep playing POTC while waiting for more code to drop I guess.

Yea it’s the same thing they did with Elwin Jurassic park etc. I personally would’ve preferred a dead serious godfather attempt and that’s what I was hoping for but this is the next best thing.

I just played at AYCE Gogi also and completely agree. It might just be me, but this is the first JJP game where the flippers feel normal. Pretty fun game. I’m a fan of the movie and of pinball, and I liked the theme integration. It’s not like you’re playing the movie, you’re playing the world of the franchise, so I didn’t mind the clips. It was fun. And this might be one of the few JJP games where the score didn’t feel too repetitive. Maybe because it’s less jingle more tingle than Wonka or WOz. I only put in two games. Felt it was very multiball heavy, like it just kept going. But I had fun. I like having it around to play, so that’s cool. The Tommy gun guy reminds me of the boxer from Champion Pub, so that was fun.

#2088 1 year ago

On the lighting.
The best colours for light in the game is obviously red, white and gold/amber.
Leds have a really hard time producing amber, and usually when you go for lighting for theaters and such the amber lighting is amongst the first thing you look at, if going led. Most of small leds doesnt do it well at all.

#2089 1 year ago

Modders should put something like this there to replace the Champions' Pub -character!

Game is a bit gaudy and cartoony for me to sink 12-15k on. I revere that movie and the cartoony gangster sculpts chafe me a bit. Looking forward to seeing competitive gameplay video and playing it. Pulp Fiction may get my pin money.

I love the Franchi artwork, it is awesome.

Quoted from Pinball-Wiz:

I've noticed a few people in this thread mention that they are OK with not buying this game because they anticipate being able to buy it in a year or two for cheaper... and all I have to say is, good for you, but you're missing the point of the hobby. […]
What is my point of being in this hobby? The absolute FUN and ESCAPE from reality and the stressors of life, and pinball happens to fulfill that for me.

So why can’t people have fun and escape later than you for less money and still have the same kinds of motivation?

Why does your definition require buying now and ignoring the financial differences?

2 yrs from now the game will be more fun because it will be more completed… and we can probably do it with less cost too. How does that make someone miss the point of the hobby?

I read your post as “i can ignore the cost because i can and chose to focus on the enjoyment it brings me” - but somehow you pigeonholed people that can’t ignore costs as somehow not interested in fun too?

I stopped out at Blue Moon in Madison WI tonight and got about a dozen games in on GF and feel like i can give some early thoughts on the game.

First off it appears that JJP finally figured out their flippers. I was there for over 2 hours and the flippers were crisp and snappy and felt nothing like the sluggish/mushy JJP flippers of old. I had to put Precision Flippers on my GNR at home because the stock flipper feel of JJP's flippers are dogshit. This is the first JJP game that I've enjoyed playing on route because the flippers finally feel really good to shoot. Whatever the fix is can you make this available for past games? Even if it requires buying a new board I'd do it just to have flippers that play this well.

The game looks absolutely gorgeous in person. Franchi nailed the art package and the game just looks high quality and premium similar to my GNR at home. lots of etched metal and premium touches that make the game look a step above games that other manufacturers put out. It's a great looking game and I would be perfectly content owning an LE model if the CE was out of reach.

Now for the gameplay. The game has a ton of different skill-shots (maybe too many) that you can pick from. I typically chose the "Compound Multiball" lock (the higher gate) because it can give you an instant multiball if you hit it. the gameplay itself is fast and there are a ton of shots and ball paths and it took me a couple games to kind of figure out what everything does and get a feel for the layout because it plays unlike any game I've played before which is a good thing. The layout felt refreshing and really fun to shoot. I tend to prefer Stern games, but their games all tend to have a similar feel and you kind of figure them out right away. This game just felt new and different and was a joy to shoot. I did notice that the ball save seemed shorter on this game and shooting anything on the lower half of the playfield can be deadly because of the speed and because you can have quick rebounds that send the ball to the outlanes. I figured out after a while to try and keep the ball on the upper half of the playfield until you get a multi-ball going if you can.

The rules feel like a cross between JPOTC and GNR. I'd say they feel about 50% JPOTC, 20% GNR, and 30% brand new. You pickup a job (mode) at the scoop and you can play/stack with multi-balls. You also build up the job value and can pick whether you want to cash out or keep pushing your luck which is similar to the song jackpot rules in GNR. The multi-balls feel a lot like JPOTC where once you get one going you tend to bring the other one's in and before you know you have a bunch of them running concurrently. It's not my favorite type of rule-set (my favorite Keefer games were his Stern games and WOZ) but i feel like this game improved upon what was done in games like JPOTC and GNR and made a best of both World's game. I feel like JPOTC had too many modes that all felt similar, in this game they give you fewer modes but they seem to have more distinction. It's basically JPOTC lite, with some GNR sprinkled in. You can get some pretty nice cashouts on the jobs which seem to be where most of the points come from in the game.

As far as theme goes, the game feels pretty loosely based on the Godfather theme. Yes, you get short movie clips throughout the game (mostly during jobs), and you hear the Godfather theme, but for the most part it feels like a mobster game in the World of Godfather. Similar to what Stern did with Jurassic Park. You fight bad guys and increase your influence. The jobs are based on events of the movies which is cool. They probably took the right approach as theming it too close off the game would make for a more boring game since GF isn't an action movie. The theme immersion isn't on the level of GNR, but they did a good job and made a fun game that I think people will really enjoy.

As far as the music and lights go I did cringe a bit when I saw the early gameplay video but when I played it the audio and lights seemed fine. It didn't remind me of Wonka/WOZ and the lighting didn't seem too over the top. I didn't see any rainbow lights when playing. Once again, sound and lights aren't as good as GNR, but it's still good.

In conclusion I think where the game really shines is in the layout and gameplay and the new snappy flippers are a very welcome addition. The total package on this game is fun and I think this has a good chance of being JJP's best game. It's a lot of fun and if the prices were more reasonable I would consider picking one up. Congrats to Eric, Keefer, and the rest of the JJP team on making a really fun game!

I think it's probably early to make those declarations. Do you know for a fact that JJP sold 100 on site and 900 to distributors as with TS4CE? Maybe those numbers shifted to more direct JJP sales than distributors this time around? Doesn't matter for me as I will own both TS4CE and GFCE, but future availability of this machine will probably depend more upon how well received the machine is after people play it.
