Wait what? This is actually a feature?

He starts talking about the topper at the 22:00 mark.

Quoted from delt31:

Art is subjective for sure - some people might love the look of that CE. Totally get that. Olive garden being good though? My god......
haha - j/k. I'm sure people love that place. I was just born into an italian family that makes their own gravy (and yes I call it gravy - before Sopranos made it cool).
Stepping back from all of this though - what an absolute crazy time for pinball. Scooby, Foo, Godfather - all of these games coming out at the same time and all of these people just trying to get your money (crooked pinball media included). I just don't understand how this all happened this way. Spooky again nails the timing to get in front of it all - I give them credit for the strategic play.
And Godfather - I'm just such a big fan. Really wish they took it in another direction but I'm still excited to play it. Topper is def the coolest part although I'm curious how loud it will be with those knockers going off! For these prices though - it's just such an easy pass. Let the early adopters lose another 3-4k in less than a year and then think about jumping in....

Well you’ve owned 99 games in the past that you have unloaded Delt.

You should buy this one, sell it a few months later as #100. Might be a record

An “easy pass”?

Im going to have a panic attack with all these new game decisions! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH Don't care about the theme but, man this game looks packed!

Quoted from PiperPinball:

Good Fellas would have been better than Godfather. At least that has some humor in it.
“Is this your pen multiball?” Lol
Agreed tired of super heros and music theme .

That’s casino not goodfellas sir.

Quoted from Concretehardt:

I like Olive Garden

Quoted from Gryszzz:

Olive Garden sucks.

OT: Sheesh not a lot of good restaurants here in Eugene and they are pretty inexpensive wife and I just do soup and salad once and a while.

Back OT: game looks cool congrats to everyone who is in on one. Love the dude on the swivel with the Tommy gun, very cool!

#1556 1 year ago

Am I correct in that this is the first JJP game with only one screen?

#1557 1 year ago
Quoted from SkaterVet:

I prefer the LE art package to the CE. I have the same opinion of GNR. Anyone else?

In the release of GNR I thought that the LE was the Collector's (I'll always like the detail of all the posters around, and that red looks simply beautiful man!) At the end I bought the purple CE because of the topper, the COMA lock, and I like the art too (that game it's definitely bolted to my home period!)

About The Godfather, I like in excess the art of the LE, but decided to get the CE because of the topper, and that burgundy with gold looks very nice in my personal opinion.
(Also this year I’m going and I HAVE to treat myself since I’m turning 50 )

Potc only had one didnt it? WOZ only had the crystal ball - I guess that was a tiny screen.

edit: Potc had the apron screen - forgot about that.

I think youre right.

Pirates has a small screen in the apron.

Blown away by The Godfather after watching the Featurette by Mr. Meny! This game is very impressive. My only JJP is a POTC SE. This is their only game since to really get me interested.

Ain't no shame in the unlimited soup and salad @ the garden

#1562 1 year ago

After watching the featurette, it's clear a lot of thought went into the game, and I think this is one that has more complexity than meets the eye. I would agree that the theme integration is a bit mixed in tone. You have all of these very realistic depictions of the characters, which fits with the theme, and then the spinning guy with the Tommy gun and the dudes on the topper look straight out of Champion Pub. It's a little jarring.

I'm sure this will be fun to flip, but I have to agree that these prices are starting to make it very difficult to jump on something sight-unseen.

I prefer games that my whole family including my grandchildren can enjoy. The Corleones aren't the kind of family that I want in my home. May be a fun play but too much focused on violence and mayhem. Good for those of you who like that sort of theme. It is the first JJP game that I will pass on.

Are we looking at the same game? Packed, lol that is the current definition now. Go look at POTC, Godzilla, Jurassic park, WOZ, hobbit, simpsons, LOTR, a lot of 90s games.

Welcome to the 50 club! Definitely a well deserved treat. Does this mean you’re gonna be a Don?

Game looks amazing. Eric seems to have knocked it out of the park. Let’s just hope JJP and Keefer actually finish the code on this one. History tells us they won’t. I’m teetering on buying a CE, but with JJP never finishing code, I don’t know if I can pull the trigger.

I only have two small criticisms on this game.

1. Those leg toppers. No….just….no. Reminds me those light up leg protectors. Please stop adding garbage to games that doesn’t need to be there.

2. The topper is incredible. But I’m not sure about those two knockers going off with it. When a knocker goes off, it’s pretty alarming. With two going off with the topper, it might be too much. I have to play it in person to see. Maybe it’s just right.

Couldn’t agree more. The art is amazing. The Don bust is great too. Then they threw in a cartoony champion pub guy. Who the hell made that call?

That's a fair point, although to me this game does seem packed, just not with toys per se.

Leg toppers are removable (magnetic), and I would be very surprised if there isn't an option to turn the gun knockers off.

Sweet, I can sell them on Ebay as Door Knockers.

The game looks awesome, a possible "instant classic." Glad for JJP. Man did they turn a questionable theme into something that looks great. What surprising theme comes next ... Thelma and Louise? When Harry Met Sally? Marley and Me? Cats?

I would give both my left testicles for a Cats pin.

This may have been said already but if they are going to go with this type of tier structure then why are they still calling the base model the limited edition?

Does the machine come with a tech?

Marketing I guess. The whole "limited to 5000" thing seems like a silly joke to me.

What do you guys think…should I buy this $500k watch to wear while playing Godfather?

SDTM video was great; pin looks really promising.

I’m still absolutely stunned there are people in this world who can watch that and criticize Eric.

Great job JJP team, it looks like you put a lot of hard work into this one as always.

Always thought JJP should offer a standard model to give those who don’t want all the bling a chance at owning one of their games. Imagine a standard edition at $9K?

That watch playfield looks packed

#1589 1 year ago

If only this game included the Fantomas versus of the theme song...<sigh> so close to being perfect

#1590 1 year ago

I watched the SDTM video, is it safe to assume the rulesheet is similar to the Hobbit, do these 5 things and then you get to a wizard mode, and you have to do the same 5 things 3 times to get to the grand wizard mode?

#1591 1 year ago

I remember the hype and excitement generated by the sdtm exclusive for pirates. So much that I was hooked and bought one. I was promised over 100 different modes, unparalleled toys etc.

In reality I had a machine with little theme integration, every mode the same, lack lustre wizards and no final wizard. To this VERY DAY.

I had a playfield that bubbled and peeled and the game received more maintenance than any other game including Alien has ever received.

Pirates has been abandoned. Unfinished.

So this new game looks awesome.

Will the same reoccur or was pirates demise down to Disney?

Having said all that this does look awesome, as a board gamer I like the approach. Just after pirates, I’m wary.

I only have two small criticisms on this game.

But there is no reason to believe they will finish the code. We're going on 5 years for POTC. I think that's enough time to clearly demonstrate that they don't care and won't do it. They probably spent more on the costuming and lighting for the Godfather announcement videos than they've spent on code development for any of their games post-release.

Stern took forever with Batman 66, but that was 3 years or less.

Code completion from JJP is simply wishful thinking at this point.

#1593 1 year ago

I wish they made a LE with the CE decals & playfield.

Looking over the rulesheet on Pinball News it doesn't look like you need to repeat the same things 3 times to get to the final wizard mode. Each mini wizard mode has it's own set of tasks. To get to the final wizard mode (Kiss the Ring) it looks like you need to play the mini wizard modes and max out every category in the game.

Unless I'm mistaken, you don't need to beat the multi-balls or mini-wizard modes like in LOTR.

#1595 1 year ago

Godfather looks good to me, 29 different shots with 29 unique controllable ball paths, tons of diverters which has been missing in games, just wish the low scoring of JJP games was changed back to big points. This is great video of fastures so far shown. Hope it plays fast. Little of champion pub meets game of thrones to me feel. Is it a standard or widebody pin.

I just canceled my Foo LE and put my deposit on the GF CE!!!! This thing looks like a beast and the one thing that pulled me in is when they mentioned they made it like a boardgame. I love rule sets that act like a boardgame. I also noticed the Interface looks a bit like the hobbit which I love!!!!

Game looks awesome, Eric is a great designer.
Keefer is the Godfather of code.

However,
Good luck when the this effing breaks !

Warranty ?
Huh, What warranty !

At least Stern Pinball got your back.

I actually completely agree. I like the guy. He seems like a good dude. But I didn't like the way he came off here. I feel like that's not him....or perhaps I just don't know the guy.

I think many of us felt that, and I think perhaps it was on purpose. He was in his gangster guise. Maybe he’s a better designer than an actor, but I think it’s all it really was.

#1599 1 year ago

Even though I did not receive the info on this pin yesterday that well, on a second thought, if one got the LE and replaced the machine-gun cartoon guy with some much more appropriate character then the pin might be very nice. I do like the CE topper, but again, the cartoon characters do not belong to this pin IMHO. Modders should start with manufacturing some Scarface-type realistic looking machine-gun shooter character that would could replace this character from champions' pub!

Quoted from delt31:Catching up on all of this finally......
The art and aesthetics on this game is like it was directed by someone in the mid west who thinks Olive Garden is good italian. What in the world did they do to this franchise? The New Yorker in me is having a hard time comprehending.
I knew when I saw the twitter pic of the side rail including the movie quote - the marketing team clearly has no idea why this movie is good. If the poor decision was made to include that in the game, you certainly wouldn't highlight it as your introduction to the public. And now I see this over the top, tacky as hell CE package that would even make the jersey housewives blush. Wow. Complete miss. If i had to pick, LE for sure but even that. Red over the top.
Looking past the complete over use of certain colors (red especially - gold too and that's saying something), I just can't believe what certain people are accepting as a 15k game these days. Maybe it's b/c I remember how it was just a couple of years ago but what in the world are we even gloating about here? A custom cartoonish sculp that looks out of place? A random sculp of the godfather that literally is out of place? Is it the diverters that enable us to have more shots? A diverter is now a significant mech?
I look at this game and it's like JJP saw how all the mod makers out there were making money and said we can do that too. That will be our innovation. Horse head shooter - check! Lermods wants to sell a translite backlight - well we'll just do it ourselves! Pop bumpers seem to get modded - look at the guy in the UK with godzilla! Let's mod our pop bumper. And the list goes on and on. Problem is - where are the custom mechs? Pirates upper that moves? Ship that shoots? House that spins? Castle gates that open? Crystal ball that shows you information? These are mechs. They use to be attached to 7k-10k games. Now they're gone but we're left with a 12-15k price tag?
Will the game shoot well? Sure. Is this game even close to old school JJP? Nope. And that's where I'm just so disappointed. And then I see some folks run at the CE and say they got one? Are you guys crazy? 1000 of these at 15k+ and JJP site is still not even sold out! Don't believe the distros who are nervous as hell - they'll say only one left and then suckers fall for it. You'll have podcasters then defend it - I even heard one recently say props to stern for updating the code on Bond. Props to stern? wtf? They take 13k from people but don't worry - we'll get that code right guys!
I was spot on with toy story - watched suckers jump in and get burned. Although this game isn't nearly as bad as that one, it's not even close to 15k. But we'll go through the buy buy buy hype and if you just retain some common sense for the next few weeks, save money down the road.

coming from someone who rated Met at 9.1.... right
