I don’t know about that. There’s something relaxing about putting a pinball table together. Some people take joy & pride in their work no matter what it is.

    Quoted from Jaybird815:

The town I live in borders both Joliet and Elwood,IL. I drive past this gas station almost everyday. It’s about 40ft in the air.
    [quoted image]

That is one of the coolest things I've ever seen .
I'd definitely go out of my way to get petrol there .
    ( and yes , I'm easily pleased )

    Quoted from Chambahz:

Right? The thought of working after retirement (even part time) makes my stomach churn.
But putting in a few shifts a week building pins and getting paid for it?
I mean, I suppose like any job, it might be “just work” after a week/day/hour, but it’s got to be way more fun than loan applications!

When Jersey Jack was still in Jersey (and working on Hobbit at the time if I recall), I asked Drew Maniscalco - who is my good friend's brother and was doing licensing for them at the time - if he could put in a good word for me to get a job on the line as a summer gig. He said I wouldn't really want to do that, then put it like this: "I love Paul McCartney, but I wouldn't want to be a roadie for him." His point (if you didn't pick it up from that quote) was that while a job might seem glamorous or fun, it's really not. And at minimum wage (which is what he said I'd probably start at), it's really REALLY not fun.

Completely agree. In fact I actually enjoy the service and restoration of a game more then playing at times. However, that is not the experience of a line worker. Install this wire loom like this, now do that again 2500 times for the next six months till we unveil the next game. Never mind, it will be the same process as long as you don't flip the board over. Not that much pinball pleasure...

If you do ever make it out this way I’ll take you to Joliet prison where the opening scene was shot, prison is closed and does tours. They really do it up for Halloween.

I've worked in mechanical assembly in environments like these. It was cool because it was kinda like getting paid to play with Legos all day.. just assembling panels with wiring, etc. It was also the first job I ever worked that had concepts like fixed break times, the roach coach would come to the location during break, etc. I was used to working straight through shifts with no breaks except for a lunch break that you took while others covered for you. So you never had those periods where everyone stops and can hang out together like you had on the assembly floor.

But of course I was doing it just to keep busy during school breaks and make some money. I never had to face 'this is going to be my life...' so I didn't sweat the lack of potential or what years of monotony might be. It felt like vacation time to me... the demands were very simple.

I don't remember what I got paid at the time... but it wasn't much more than minimum wage at the time. My (now) wife also worked there and was trained to work as a soldering tech and they got paid an extra dollar or two an hour. They had to do all the work that couldn't be completed by the wave soldering machines.

The US is less than 4% of the world’s population. It produces 27% of the world’s GDP and 35% of the total wealth.
Without that wealth and the pursuit of it there would be less jobs, wages etc for everyone.
The US lifts up millions of people worldwide with our economy. Without it we would wander around in a worldwide depression
    Meritocracy and capitalism work!
Costco just raised to $16 per hr to compete with Wal Mart and others. It’s called competition for labor or the free market
    Just saying

    https://www.blueridgeoutdoors.com/go-outside/united-states-consumption

And we're the most wasteful country that's ever existed on the face of the planet. Woohooo!

"To wit, American fossil fuel consumption is double that of the average resident of Great Britain and two and a half times that of the average Japanese. Meanwhile, Americans account for only five percent of the world’s population but create half of the globe’s solid waste."

Unless you're in that 1% Ice, I wouldn't gloat so much. I certainly know I'm not. These should be alarming ideas, not prideful one's. But Americans, we are not known for humility.

The only thing I miss about the work was....the 'when you're done, you're done', unlike most white collar work where they want you tethered to a phone. While doing it however, I could actually feel myself getting dumber over the years lol.

    I don't appreciate your tone.

I'd say we can take this to PM, but you never bothered replying to a casual, friendly message I sent to you weeks ago.

You either downvote me or write something like this. If you have a personal issue with me, resolve it via a PM.

I'm done replying to you here.

From my experience, you shouldn't compare working on machines to the manufacturing line. I find working on machines relaxing, but most assembly lines are about repetition and meeting targets. I worked a few in my younger years, and each one was a special type of hell, even for the most positive individuals. They always devolve into "we want faster with fewer errors." Supervisors get stressed. People start beaking.

It's nothing like tinkering, trust me.

I started on th factory lines in the late 70’s.I always was able to shift to fork truck driving or warehouse work.I got out of this line of work because I couldn’t stand doing the same thing or even the same place for to long. But I do know there are people who don’t mind this line of work.I’m grateful there’s people that are ok with this being. If you don’t like it work your way out of it like I and others have done! This is America baby!!!!

We've heard your shit about "working in the video game industry" a bazillion times and really could use a break. But you know what? We tolerate it because we're not dicks. Be a dick. I don't care. I didn't miss anything.

I actually did work in a factory back in the day and plenty of other shit jobs. I didn't say a damn thing about my what I do for a living. Dude if I trigger you so bad that your getting upset about things you imagine I might say you need to put me on ignore. That is an unhealthy obsession. I had another guy complain I was trolling a thread I hadn't posted in for 3 years, seriously 3 years since my last post. You guys are mental.

U had a factory job? So then your statement wasn’t sarcastic? Or the “oh wait nobody gives a ..” part is sarcastic? But then everybody is really fascinated by factory jobs?? This is so confusing, I’m going a little mental.. Triggering!! And smarmy? Great word- not used correctly.

And Wesman got ejected for a post with no foul language or threats? This is strange. I mean we were all tired of the valid socialist points, but we aren’t working for Lucasfilms here. If people are ejected for being off topic, crickets in here.

Bottom line- hells yes!! for $1000 more. You snooze, you lose! Pollocks art sold for thousands $, now tens of millions. Pins are not toys anymore- they are works of art. Keep them NIB!

I stand by smarmy. I was being smarmy pretending I wanted to share my thoughts or feelings about being a factory worker. It's close but I think its fair usage. I'm just kidding around I can conceded I may not have used it right.

If the chipping is past what the black washers they sent to cover it up Considered serious?
I was told the company no longer will send out playfields for this issue. Im sure someone from JJP can make a statement to say im lying, but i have a recorded conversation stating my choices were take the washers and try and cover it up or Live with it because they company no longer will be sending out playfields. So either im lying to you or they are lying to me ithas to be one or the other.

Its a little surprising they would take that stance since they probably get the supplier (Mirco) to eat most of the cost. Have you had issues with your GNR LE?

    #1445 3 years ago

My playfield had cracking and its missing art on left and right slings posts, they sent me black washers to cover it, but it past the washers, i notified them in early December, i have a phone conversation with barry engler told me the company will no longer send playfields for this issue but they would send washers. I already used the washers, this issue started after 100 plays, im at 200 now. My response was, jjp should let buyers know that if they have chipping cracking missing art playfields they JJP is no longer sending replacement playfields. Im sure the buyers would like to know this before they drop 10k + on a game.

I had a phone conversation, its recorded and thats what i was told, if this is new policy it should be stated so new buyers know what they’re in for. Zero replacement, they will still help take care of issues, but they’re not offering replacement playfields for in my case missing artwork due to cracking away clear coat and art. Ive brought this up on Facebook in the jjp groups and my posts were deleted within 5 minutes.

I was reminded recently from a JJP distributor that there is no warranty at all to anyone but the original purchaser. So if you buy a GNR from anyone other than a JJP distributor, you have no warranty.
