Everybody should have at least one of these great experiences with CL, just once.....

I check Atl CL every day for "pinball." Why? Because I am a sicko - sick with pinball fever most of the time. Two days ago, I saw an ad for a "project pin," a Hi-Lo Ace (Bally) from 1973 for $100.00. Dirty, not fully working, etc. I figured for $100, I could use it as a test game to work on my EM fixing skills, which are virtually non-existent. And it was literally 10 minutes from my house. But when I called, I was told I could not buy it because someone had already called and was coming that night. Bummer....but an honorable guy at least. He said the pin was nice but that the backbox was off the cabinet (not a good sign to me).

Called at 7:30 pm and the guy never showed up. 10 minutes later, I pull up. The pin is now put together, he's playing it and the lights and chimes are going crazy. Turns out the pin is in excellent shape, very few dings and the backglass is ABSOLUTELY, 100% perfect, the best I've ever seen. Game is working 95%, only one pop bumper is out. $100 later, that baby was mine and I capped a thrilling experience by waxing it, cleaning it and playing the heck out of it.

Anyway, thought I'd share. I really was quite excited, as I've been wanting an EM (sold all mine) and a card-themed game to boot! You should see this backglass! Will post pics of it cleaned and in its new home tonight....

Peace out.

My cab was rough rough rough, the structure was good but the paint was just falling off, and it had a ton of wear..

I redid mine through and through...

id PF touch up and some partial CC'ing of the PF..

It cane out amazing and plays like a monster...

Put in the next bigger sized coils in for the flippers, got em from Steve Young at PBR..wow did that wake this game up!

got the pops adjusted nicely, and now they are very snappy...

Very fun game...

You dont have to have drop targets to have a blast...

Interesting upgrade as well is, you can put lightning flippers on this game, they are the exact same length as the original Bally bats, they are just pointy at the end not rounded...

i had a mangled shaft on the right bat, and had the lightning's in stock, gave them a look and installed..they look cool as well.

As simple as this game is rules wise, it is very hard to get both upper and lower specials lit, as the side lanes for the 7 & 8 are not that easy to aquire...

with good responsive pops you can get the ball back up top to the rollovers, and you better be on your game with the nudging to get those rollovers completed..

Congrats, that looks like a good game for a poker player's collection.

I know, I may be getting a Royal Flush next. I do love the card games. Want a Jack's Open too.

Surprisingly, HLA is Bally, not Gottlieb.
