Quoted from gweempose:Both of those songs were on Thriller which was released in 1982.
See how time fly's, sucks getting old!
gonna toss this in the ring. newer song and i generally dislike new pop but this song is good.
also 50 ways to say goodbye (again by train) cannot be in this contest but the lyrics and video are both hilarious.
Quoted from o-din:While the corporate rock DJs seemed to drone on and be talking to themselves, KROQ brought in a guy named Rodney Bingenheimer in 1976 who brought his own records to play. And they let him.
He's the guy that introduced Alice Bowie as they got on stage in Up In Smoke.
This is hard to argue with, too bad I can only upvote once because it deserves 100 ups!!! Earache my Eye

I sense a Kiwi in the house?! Both great songs, and there’s so many more in the Flying Nun canon
I can't believe you didn't shut this whole thing down and declare my first selection, Owsley's Oh No The Radio the hands down winner and your new favorite song. Harumpf
Quoted from Chambo:I sense a Kiwi in the house?! Both great songs, and there’s so many more in the Flying Nun canon
I'm a huge fan of Flying Nun. Love the Bats, 3DS, Bailter Space, the list goes on. Very underrated label that gets overlooked cause of labels like creation, 4ad, etc..
Quoted from jwilson:Oof, long string of mouldy oldies the last couple of days. How about some stuff from this century?
Good point. So here's a clear winner across all categories: perfect pop, charted only in the UK, and released last year (admittedly the singer got his best known band together in the 90s). It also features the rare use of a tin whistle in a pop song, and there's a vague pinball theme to the video. What more could Pinside ask for?

Huge Noel Gallagher fan, and love his solo stuff. But I feel like Oasis have some pretty spectacular ones that blow this clear out of the water. Still, great song, wish he would tour in Baltimore once but I'm sure he doesn't wanna go anywhere near #1 in murders. I hear his favorite show is The Wire though so, maybe there's a slight chance haha.

I hope you can get Noel to Baltimore - and I'd have thought any member of the Gallagher family would be able to handle themselves pretty well in a pub brawl at least.
I would have nominated Wonderwall by Oasis but it breaches the original rule about the songs being relatively unknown. You can judge a classic by the number of times it's been covered. Ryan Adams might have even bettered Oasis with his version too...

Ohhh. Didn't see that rule up there. Oh well. I really dig the live version of Noel singing it the most. But Liam, he's just got that voice man. It's quite the belter though.
I'm a huge shoegaze fan, I can never find a pinhead into shoegaze. That's a hard duo to find it seems. If I ever find a girl into shoegaze and pins I just might have to marry her.
A few seasonal choices: Goblin’s Profondo Rosso, the inspiration for Carpenter’s Halloween theme
and Goblin’s Suspiria (can’t believe they’re remaking it and using a different score):
Quoted from Mark66:JIM CARROLL....PEOPLE WHO DIED.
"It's Too Late" is a great Jim Carroll track.
That's a lot of songs to review. So surely Nena- 99 Luftballons ranks in there if not already posted.
Man, you pick up so much great music from this thread. Here's a really nice one.

Ballroom Blitz made it to the top of the list despite all that!
Who knew all these modern rock fans would be so familiar with such an old track
One not so old-
Quoted from Underspin:Wake up kids, we got the dreamer's disease.
The 90s kids will agree with me that this gem should get consideration. Impossibly catchy, witty lyrics and a steady upbeat tempo that doesn’t let up the entire song. It’s perfect pop music.
New Radicals “You Get What You Give” from 1998
This is a great answer. I'm a 70s kid and I think it's great - Apparently lead singer Gregg Alexander competed in 1984 battle of the bands which I remember being heavily promoted by WRIF in Detroit
Still being played on college radio

There are some great suggestions here but I am disinclined to click on random grainy YouTube videos with no context.

Elton John and Kiki Dee for the WIN
This makes for a great karaoke duet. I saw Elton in Philly last month - dont be fooled by this video, he is old.
Jessica Andrews, Who I Am (Rosemary's Granddaughter).
If you never heard this country crossover song, take a listen. Unfortunately a sort of one hit wonder....
I already posted earlier but this is song also fits the requirements. I don’t know where I originally heard this song but it grabbed me and wouldn’t let me go for months. Also I don’t think it has ever been really played on radio. It is classic hard rock. Gaslight Anthem “American Slang”
The Game Grumps' band's cover of Everybody Wants To Rule The World has been stuck in my head for a while.
