Easiest Lyrics, and known World Wide!

And my wifes entry:

Tony DeFranco and the DeFranco Family.

#353 5 years ago
Quoted from Fairground:

Wow! PSY's Indian cousin?

It's actually a ~20 year old song

I had heard it at an Indian wedding, and everyone was going crazy to an extended mix. The DJ wrote it down for me.

I finally found it on alt.binaries.mp3 before there was a youtube or google

There was only a really poor video years later on Youtube, but now I see they have one with great video and audio quality.

I heard this at an American Indian wedding.

The Osmonds - Crazy Horses

The thing about perfection is that it is unknowable, it's impossible ...

In a related story; make the damn vault please!

Ive just gotta say, I met the guy who was the singer for the Cowsills, Barry I think ,in a shit hole of a bar in Seaside , California. This was about 20 years ago I believe, it was NOT the high point of my existence.

IF you grow up in the sixty's: Manfred Mann's Do-wa-didy, who didn't know the words to it?
ABBA was a good choice but they were more disco.
Queen's Dragon attack would be a good choice for the 80's
And for the 90's Michael Jackson.... Beat it and thriller!

Be Bop Deluxe - Maid In Heaven

Be Bop Deluxe disbanded for fear they were about to be put in a mental institution.

She's a maid in heaven
He's a knight on the tiles
A bat out of hell, oh well!
It's just a question of style...

It's a time for giving
In the two-star hotel
Where breakfast in bed, good head
Is just the price of a smile...

I know
It's not easy to live this way
Just an hour and a fleeting kiss
'til the morning

Silent night of wonders
Day breaks through the door
So broken and torn, reborn
Two shadows thrown on the floor

Hold me now go lightly
Take the rough with the smooth
A token of love, my love
Was made in heaven for you

Be Bop Deluxe - Maid In Heaven

I forgot about this group! I have their LPs Futurama and Sunburst Finish. Maid in Heaven is a great pop song.

For a good pop song, what about Johnny Hold Back by Charlie from their LP No Second Chance?

Sniff 'n' the Tears "Driver's Seat"

Nick Lowe "Cruel To Be Kind"

Quoted from wdennie:

And for the 90's Michael Jackson.... Beat it and thriller!

Both of those songs were on Thriller which was released in 1982.

Gypsys Tramps and Thieves by Cher

#375 5 years ago
Quoted from Gryszzz:

When I think of "perfect" and "pop music" together, the only thing I can come up with is Taylor Swift's legs.
[quoted image]

They are lovely ! I will stop before I’m banned

^^^This and “Dark Lady” are what I think about playing Magic Circle.

I was going to post "Half Breed", but this one has a better rhythm to it.

How bout Paul Revere and the Raiders?

I loved that song growing up with the drum and percussion beat.

Hear is another spooky song with a killer guitar hook.

#380 5 years ago

BUT, I am surprised that no one has brought up this quintessential pop classic. Video is great too.

#381 5 years ago

They weren't the first all girl band that got us rocking.

#384 5 years ago

Every band should have at least one video with a bunch of sexy schoolgirls going crazy in class.

EndeverafteR - Baby, Baby, Baby

"We're An American Band" by Grand Funk Railroad (more cowbell please)

Pinball fixing music ...

I prefer - Don't Drop That Durka Durk. The 10 hour version is quite awesome.

This thread reminds of the "Rock & Roll" Hall of Fame, which is filled with all kinds of nonsense that is not rock and roll, like pop, rap, hip hop, soul, country, jazz and who knows what else. Its supposed to be about a pop song but half this stuff is hardly pop.

Name a Rock N Roll band that had a hit in the last 40 years? Stray Cats? (or are they more rockabilly?)

Maybe Sha Na Na a decade before that? (you know, they friggin played at Woodstock).

Can you imagine the argument over what is "rock n roll" ? Bill Haley? Buddy Holly? Elvis?

(edit: I forgot Edmunds, he had a rock n roll hit in 1990 )

Dave Edmunds - Closer to the flame

Social Distortion

Social Distortion

Great band, but they classify themselves as "punk rock".

#395 5 years ago
Quoted from vid1900:

True, but they have matured into a bonafide rock and roll band. But still keep the hard edge in their live shows.

That song is pure rock and roll. I'm not sure if it was a big nationwide success, but it was a huge hit here, not just on the alternative radio stations. Full mainstream.

Ball and Chain and Ring of Fire both got heavy airplay a few decades ago around here.

I saw them a few times, they would come around with the radio-friendly punk bands; Greenday, Offspring, and Bad Religion

Speaking of pop punks, the best of the best :

Bad Religion - Stranger Than Fiction

A people shot, keep buying smack
And the children are hoping for a heart-attack
Tonight the windows are watching
The streets all conspire
And the lamppost can't stop crying
If I could fly high above the world
Would I see a bunch of living dots spell the word stupidity?
Or would I see hungry lover homicides
Loving brother suicides and olly olly oxen frees
Who pick a side and hide?

[Chorus]
The world is scratching at my door
My morning paper's got the scores
The human interest stories
And the obituary, oh yeah

Cockroach naps, rattling traps
How many devils can you fit upon a match head?
Caringosity killed the Kerouac cat
Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction

[Verse 2]
In my alley around the corner
There's a wino with feathered shoulders
And a spirit giving head for crack and he'll never want it back
There's a little kid and his family eating crackers like thanksgiving
And a pack of wild desperadoes scornful of living

[Corus]
The world is scratching at my door
My morning paper has the scores
The human interest stories
And the obituary, oh yeah

[Verse 3]
Cradle for a cat, Wolfe looks back
How many angels can you fit upon a match?
I want to know why Hemingway cracked
Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction

[Outro]
Life is the crummiest book I ever read, there isn't a hook
Just a lot of cheap shots, pictures to shock
And characters an amateur would never dream up
Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction

#397 5 years ago

Maybe this isn’t pop..maybe not a great song..maybe I just like the title/honesty of the lyrics..

Good one.

Bad Religion's Sorrow is one that's gotten a lot of play in the last few years.

Punk can be a lot closer to true rock and roll than most of the other rock genres.
