Can’t go wrong with Hall and Oates for pop

I Can’t Go For That

New Metallica is all pop...long gone are the days of old hard hitting metal.....

But Achy Breaky Heart gets my vote. As soon as you hear one line that song is stuck in your head all day...worst ear worm ever!!!

Less top 40. This one is gold.

Gary US Bonds - Out of Work

The Beach Boys "Warmth of the Sun" not perfect but to me it's perfect Beach Boys. And they wrote pop songs I think.

Thunderstruck

Quoted from KozMckPinball:

Lots of songs listed here I would't call Pop.

Same thing happened in the Perfect Album thread.

People will start posting ballads, songs by homosexual pedophiles, theme from Starwars.....

That's the fun of an online forum.

Is dance/club music considered pop? Close enough in my book.

Great Pop-Punk song:

If a pop song could be described as 'epic', this would have to be it.

Greatest Les Paul tone ever put to vinyl.

Hard to believe Bryan Adams ever had the range to sing anything other than by-the-numbers rock nursery rhymes.

Sweeney Todd - Tantalize

From the east-side street, kick a tin can beat
Run through the jungle, a lion, a mongrel like you
Such an easy mark for a hungry shark
Lost in the haze of the big city maze and your through

Tantalize you, mesmerize you
Trick you with a smile
Capture with the style
A touch of magic sure to make you sigh

Can you still be insane with this ball and chain
Run through the jungle, a lecher, a scoundrel, it's you
Keep yourself wide-eyed or they'll bleed you dry
Runnin' thru shadows of streets broad and narrow with you

Tantalize you, mesmerize you
Start to lose control
The city takes its toll
Beaten once, twice shy, beware below

Do you see (do you see)
At nights (at nights)
Do you see (do you see)
At nights (at nights)

One hit wonder from Spandau Ballet

True

Rich Girl. Hall and Oates

Tonight’s the Night. Rod Stewart

I'm sorry Vid, some of yours songs just don't fit my vision of the perfect pop song.
The pop artist that stands above all....ABBA.
Those folks could write a pop song based on their morning flatulence, and it would be gold. Pure pop gold. Dancing Queen, for the win.

Why is there no Beach Boys pinball Machine?

Elvis and Stones have been done along with a few hair bands and rumor is Beatles is on the way.

So why isn't there more hype about a Beach Boys pinball machine? I guess it's up to you and me then.

Speaking of Elvis...

Quoted from o-din:

The first song that really grabbed me when I was 4 or 5 years old.

The Beatles were the perfect boy-band, for a 5 year old boy.

Piano Man

But seriously, despite Vid’s rules, look up “Perfect Pop Song” in the dictionary and the definition is “She Loves You” and “I Want to Hold Your Hand”. If the Beatles never cut another record, we’d still be talking about them for these two.

Girlfriend by Matthew Sweet fits the bill. Robert Quine and Richard Lloyd on guitar!

Yes they were!

And it was long before Michael Jackson first muttered "The kid is not my son..."

ABBA is a great band, no doubt about it.

But they do not engage my brain. Most of their songs are just too low tempo and their chord progressions banal.

"Knowing Me Knowing You" is probably their best song as far as songcraft, but it's even slower than most of 'em.

#71 5 years ago

How can we even talk about Abba without their groundbreaking hit 'Waterloo"?

#72 5 years ago

I’m sure a pile of U2 songs could be mentioned

Picking up on that sarcasm. Only cause it's as thick as a 65 Elvis pompadour.

Hands down, "What A Fool Believes - Doobie Brothers".

Great musicianship, vocal harmonies, catchy and somewhat danceable (based on my experience at a Michael McDonald concert).

The best punkpop song from THIS century (best punk harmony ever?)

Buzzcocks - Wish I Never Loved You

No matter what I try is no good for you
Everything that I say, everything that I do
It's crystal clear now that we're going nowhere
And that once was a dream has become this nightmare
Wish I never loved you

But I just can't let go, now I know how it feels to have loved and lost, because of pride
To be deserted so that hurt is all that's left inside
I'm ashamed I've been blamed so much I wanted to die

Tell me why, tell me why, tell me why, tell me why

What makes me think I mean nothing to you?
Everything that you say, everything that you do

All you excuses, the lies you invent
Provide more than a little discouragement

Wish I never loved you

What a great non-pinball thread!

Long ago I promised myself I’d spend the rest of my days selling the wares of the great Australian post-punk / power pop band Died Pretty to the world. This song from 1991, Godbless, is my favourite, although the sound on youtube is a little tinny:

But the whole album, Doughboy Hollow, is magnificent. It has my vote (and that of many others) as the best ever released by Australians

I can't believe Jenna Elfman, quite possibly one of the hottest women on earth is related to Danny Elfman... Yikes.

I am sure this will get downvotes like crazy, but I hate that I like this song......."Out of the Woods" by Taylor Swift

Some 21st century pianopop for the keen

Scouting For Girls - She's So Lovely

I love the way she fills her clothes
She looks just like them girls in Vogue
I love the way she plays it cool
I think that she is beautiful
She's so lovely
She's so lovely
She's so lovely
She's so lovely
She's so lovely
She's so lovely
She's so lovely
She's pretty
A fitty
She's got a boyfriend though
And that's a pity
She's flirty
Turned thirty
Ain't that the age a girl gets really dirty?
I don't know
I don't know
I don't know
How we'll make it through this
I don't know
I don't know
I don't know
I love the way she bites her lip
I love the way she shakes them hips
I love the way she makes me drool
I think that she is beautiful
She's so lovely
She's so lovely
She's so lovely
Well she's so lovely
She's so lovely
She's so lovely
She's so lovely
A stunner
I wonder
Was she this fit when she was 10 years younger?
Come see me, discretely
She said she's got a trick or two
To teach me
I don't know
I don't know
I don't know
How we'll make it through this
I don't know
I don't know
I don't know
How we'll make it through this
I don't know
I don't know
I don't know
How we'll make it through this
I don't know
I don't know
I don't know
I think that you are lovely
I think that you are lovely
I think that you are lovely
I think that you are lovely
I think that you are lovely
I think that you are lovely
I think that you are lovely
I think that you are beautiful
She's so lovely
She's so lovely
She's so lovely
She's so lovely
She's so lovely
She's so lovely
She's so lovely
I don't know
I don't know
I don't know
How we'll make it through this
I don't know
I don't know
I don't know
How we'll make it through this
I don't know
I don't know
I don't know
How we'll make it through this
I don't know
I don't know
I don't know
How we'll make it through this
I don't know
I don't know
I don't know
How we'll make it through this
I don't know
I don't know
I don't know
Oh oh oh

Huey Lewis & The News - Back in Time

Since Beatles are disqualified my 1st choice of HELP! that mesmerized me as a child must sit silent. Jet's " are you gonna be my girl?" is fast, crunchy and catchy. For the 90's I'd have to go with the New Radicals "You only get what you give."

No! No! No!!!! Unacceptable! It must be the original version! LOL j/k... mostly...
