Master of Puppets
Gotta agree. After all the years of Hendrix, Sabbath, Zep, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, AC/DC etc. these albums took it to a new level. These three are the last of the great music by Metallica or anyone else for that matter. Whenever I am feeling down and need an aural pick-me-up this right here is where I inevitably go. Crank it up and let it rip and my mood always improves.
Don't get me wrong, my vote remains with DSOTM as the best album ever. And everything posted so far is great stuff no doubt. But these songs probably have 100 times the play count of any others in my stash of 9000. Which I will be soon expanding cause I got some new ideas here of some stuff I forgot about and some I didn't know about.
Quoted from vid1900:I know most of you guys only like music that's 50+ years old, but for your own good, you should check out the new LCD Soundsystem - American Dream.
Normally the #1 album in the USA is by a little girl, an oversized cowboy hat or a black guy in a jogging suit.
But this week, the top album is LCD Soundsystem!
(screen shot as proof):A perfect disc that is only a few days old.......this is your chance to enjoy a CURRENT and RELEVANT artist........you have not done that in what, 40 years?
This album drips with flavors of Bowie, Eno and Echo, but can laugh at itself.» YouTube video
I feel like I'm in deep in my 80s playlist! I do love the 80s songs but the majority of that is not "album music". We could do a whole thread of "80s songs" and it would be great, for what it is.
Its OK stuff, but sorry for me doesn't even come close.
Still waiting to hear anything from the last 7 years (20-teens) that is something really good.
Quoted from vid1900:In what genre?
Blues, Metal, Hard Rock, Pop, Dance, Country, Rap, Urban ?
In general I like to classify the best music as being the best and not have to put in a genre. I like some stuff in all those genres. I just don't recall hearing anything that is new that stands out.
Also, I resent being called old and only liking old stuff. Along those lines, here is one I haven't seen mentioned yet
Quoted from vid1900:I'll start the game off with a truly perfect disc, Robin Trower's Bridge of Sighs.
8 perfect songs, perfectly mixed, if you have good headphones this is the place to try them out.
The whole disc is tuned down to Eb, so Trower gets his "evil Jimi Hendrix" vibe going full bore.» YouTube video
Going back to your original, in 1976 I went to see Robin Trower at the Orange Show in San Bernardino (with Gary Wright LOL). I got a spot about 10 feet from him for the whole show, which of course was awesome. I also was about 6 feet from one of the giant speakers. My ears rang for days after that one, I'm pretty sure I rolled a a few kHz off the top of my hearing range from that one.
Quoted from vid1900:Ummmmm...if you don't like anything new, why would you resent someone saying that you only like old stuff?
Joking Vid, joking. Smiley face combined with Grand Funk album from 1969 was supposed to indicate that.
Here is one I have always liked. It is kind of obscure I think and I'm not even sure what category to put this in. "Catchy rock/pop/new wave"? I don't know. But, it is an album full of great songs. The songwriting and musicianship are really good.
Skyhooks - Ego is Not a Dirty Word
Sweet is amazing. Consider the songs Ballroom Blitz and Love is Like Oxygen. These were two big hits and are still great songs, but they are completely different from each other. I didn't even know they were by the same band for a long time!
Quoted from vid1900:Not really.
He never mentions a guy .
Clearly his girl no longer wants to see him, and now he's going to beat her into unconsciousness:
I never felt this mad before
When I just found out she don't want me no more
If I get her in my sight
Boom boom! Out go the lights!
(too bad the lyrics were not "when I get her in my SIGHTS, boom boom out go the lights" that would have been an even darker ending)
Absolutely Vid, being old enough to remember, that song was played a lot back then. I don't think people analyzed the meaning much, it's just a great ripping rock song especially the live version and that's what made it popular. On the live album he has the crowd yell "out go the lights!" after he says boom boom. Of course we were not too politically correct overall in those days
Anyway there are a zillion songs that have really terrible lyrics that people have no clue about, but they just love the song. Two that I can think of that I had to explain to someone are I Don't Like Mondays by the Boomtown Rats and Turning Japanese by the Vapors. The look on their face when they found out what those songs are really about!
By the way, the Vapors supposedly have claimed that the song doesn't really mean what it is infamous for. I call BS on that. Come on, just read the lyrics, give me a break it is obvious.
The Boomtown Rats song is a particularly serious one for me because to this day I can remember that day that the actual event happened, and at the time I lived in that area. Really sad.
I certainly don't get the Beths, sounds like every other garbage song of the day. Grating vocals. Better than rap I guess. I'm going back to LZ.

Quoted from Lethal_Inc:One of if not the the best metal album of all time. [quoted image]
Rust in Peace and Kill ‘Em All. These two pretty much thrash all these other albums into oblivion.
