JOE WALSH made the PERFECT album for late summer/fall in "But Seriously, Folks..." It's like a warm blanket on a cool day. Brings a tear to my eye just thinking about that album. Excellent addition to this thread.

I nominate Odessey and Oracle by the Zombies (released in the USA in 1969), from the same time as Sgt. Pepper's and the same engineer at Apple Studios. The album ranks 100 on Rolling Stone's 500 greatest albums of all time list. Not too shabby.
As the story goes, the album cover artist incorrectly spelled "Odyssey" as "Odessey" and because the band had already disbanded, the album was released absent the correction.
The Zombies are known for three hit songs, to wit: Time Of The Season, She's Not There, and Tell Her No. This album includes Time Of The Season. The other songs on the LP are every bit as good. I especially like A Butcher's Tale and Hung Up On A Dream. The lead singer, Colin Blunstone, possesses a distinctive voice, often described as breathy. His many solo albums are excellent. Some older pinsiders may remember the Zombies keyboardist and songwriter, Rod Argent, who enjoyed solo success of his own with his namesake band.
As a kid in the sixties and seventies, the Zombies were my favorite band. I saw the Zombies at the Borgata Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey about 15 years ago. Colin and Rod still had the mojo after all of these years. Front row!
Mellon Collie is one of the greatest albums of all time IMO, but perhaps not a "perfect" album as not all the tracks are stellar over 2 discs (again my opinion). Would be perfect if all the best tracks were on one disc.
That album lends me to think of Jawbreaker's Dear You that was released around the same time...'95 was a helluva good year for music.

Completely agree. I got into this band purely because of the name (I don't know what I thought - that they were a punk band maybe?) .. what a shocker when I heard "time of the season". What I heard was this ethereal, haunting sound... great vocal harmonies here, in the age of Ben E. King's Stand By Me
Lots of great albums. I'm with vid on Black Sabbath heaven and hell Dio really sent that one over the top. I'll throw one out there for Van Halen's 1984

All of the Zombies catalog is great ("I Love You" is the best British Invasion song outside of anything by the fab four), but this album truly delivers. Was lucky enough to see the original (and new) line up a few months ago. Seeing Chris White sing and play bass with Colin and Rod was magical.
