I think one truly perfect masterpiece I have heard is Pink Floyd the wall.

Today rolling the movie.

In previous years Id argue they SITA is a better album, but they are both perfect! Although IMO Slayer never wrote a better riff than the intro to Blood Red

This has been a timeless album for me.

Here’s one most of ya don’t know…

Vivid by Living Colour. Very good album.

Captain Beyond from 1972 is a pretty good album. I still like listening to the whole thing through. The guitarist was Rhino from Iron Butterfly.

The entire living colour catalog is legit. Maybe not Collideosphere. But vivid, biscuits, chair in the Doorway!!

The three that come to mind are Pearl Jam Ten, Fleetwood Mac Rumours, and Weezer's blue album.

I think the Blue Album had one track I skipped so I couldn’t in good faith recommend it per Vid’s rules. Their latest album, as well as Goldfinger’s also fall into the same trap. So close…

However from the same era I don’t skip a track from Incubus’ Morning View. Pretty much my forever perfect album.

Also one that no one else outside the state of Maine will recommend is a band called Jeremiah Freed. They got too hot too quick, signed by Universal, quoted by Skynyrd as their best opening band ever, featured in Rolling Stone, and flew way too close to the sun when it happened. They were unmatched for a modern southern rock style band but went away for a while when they got dropped by Universal.

A few years ago they came back with a farewell double EP swan song, and it may be the best damn shit they put out and the best damn shit I’ve ever heard. So I’ll give the hat tip to Companion Vol 1&2 as one total album.

You have to be into southern rock but damnit they went out on the highest note possible.

A taste of the perfect farewell -

LOL! I love that track, it is so out of place it makes the album. I -never- skip it. And Synchroncity II is just perfect.

Depeche Mode - Violator
Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine
Beastie Boys - Paul’s Boutique
Propaganda - a Secret Wish
alphaville - Forever Young (album)
Chromeo - Head Over Heels
Def Leppard - Hysteria
The Police - Ghost in the Machine

It’s late or I’d add album artwork. IMHO not a bad song on any of those Long Players. Cheers.

L.A. Guns--Shrinking Violet from 1999, not the reissue they did like ten years later.

John

#777 33 days ago
Quoted from Leeb18509:

No Nine Inch Nails yet? Pretty Hate Machine or The Downward Spiral, take your pick.

I'm disappointed that I have to quote a 5 year old post to get, what I feel, is the drfinitive answer. Downward Spiral is absolutely incredible.

I also find Sargeant Peppers, Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall and The Chronic to all be terrific from beginning to end.

I'll be popping in here with some curveballs. First up, this gem. Yeah you might remember the radio songs "lump" and "peaches" and while those are perfectly fine songs I would argue they are the worst of the album. Now, is this album high art and the peak of musical craftsmanship? No. Of course not! But this band never claimed to be that. They just wanted to make lighthearted fun songs, and thats exactly what this album delivers in spades. Every song is fun, kitchy, and weird, but in the best ways possible that will have you listening to the entire thing front to back over and over again, and thats what makes this....a perfect album.

Well there's the movie soundtrack, and orchestral version, the terrible 1989 Live version, the 90s Broadway soundtrack that unfortunately made its way into a pinball machine...

My favorite version happens to be the Live at Leeds 1970 version. Was available only as a bootleg for a long time but got an official release a while back.

Not a big fan of Floodland. Jim Steinman ruined that band, IMO.
First, Last and Always, on the other hand, is spectacular.

In the mid to late 90's, big beat was HUGE, probably the most popular genre in electronic music at the time. So big, many songs were crossing over into mainstream radio play. You may remember hearing "The Rockafeller Skank" or "Praise You" getting quite a bit of attention. Those are some great songs but this whole album is full of earworms from beginning to end. I would even argue that this albums popularity paved the way for one of the biggest electronic songs of all time to also make its way to mainstream radio: Darude - Sandstorm. If not for this album EDM music may not be half as popular and mainstream as it is today, and THAT is what makes this....A perfect album

Pictured here is the original album cover, as well as the way less cool North American album cover
