Quoted from Inferno:

So, as the island spins during test (when the game is first turned on) the ramp drops and stays down until a ball comes from underneath? I'm assuming the ramp goes up and down in test right?
have you checked the switch that tells the game the ramp is in the up position? You can see it from underneath. Check the linkage also.

Everything appears fine

Is there logic that it should “know” to be up or down ?

So if it prematurely dropped it corrects itself

When you turn on the game the island and ramp cycle through a self test. What is the state of the ramp during this test? Does it ever pop up and down during the self test? Does the game get any error report upon boot?

Did you lift the play field and verify the function? You can also go into switch test mode with the PF up and check the function of the linkage and the ramp switch behavior.

If you are still puzzled
Can you take a video of the ramp behavior during boot sequence?

Hi

Upon boot the island spins but the ramp doesn’t lift or lower at all

If I start a game it goes up tho

So your thinking something isn’t right with that switch ?

At what point does it lower causing your issue?

It almost seems 100% random like the catch wiggled far enough to drop the ramp but it’s all snug and I cannot replicate the issue

Should the ramp have “logic”

There is a switch under the pf associated with the ramp. I cant remember if it lets the game know if the ramp is up or down, but i believe it is similar to the switch used for Whirlwind, so it should be for the ramp being up.

Someone able to send a 20 second video if their Gilligan upon boot ?

Have you done a switch test yet?

#259 2 years ago

Switch works in test yes

I’ll try and play a round on it while being recorded and if it drops I’ll provide a link for you all but doesn’t seem connected with anything going on in the machine

I'll post a video of boot after I get home. ...And have you pulled the batteries just for fun?

#261 2 years ago

No idea on batteries but there good

I did play it and it dropped

I made a video in test as I noticed when the ball
In pops made it fall

Seems like heavy vibration just causes it to drop

I’ll post the link here

I really appreciate the help

#262 2 years ago

Isn't there a release relay you can test in Solenoid test?
You should be a bel to do an up ramp and down ramp test.
If this test is OK it is a logic problem IMO and out of my league

Here's a link to mine booting.

Ramp is up when it boots, at beginning of the island test
the ramp drops. Island finds its home position, ramp stays down untill the start button is pressed, then ramp pops up at start of the game.

I'll look at your vid later tonight

After watching your vid:
When the pops are firing, does the ramp just fall or is the solenoid pulling it down? You're in test, so I'm assuming it's just falling?
And if it's just falling, is this what's happening randomly during game play?

#265 2 years ago

I played a game noticed when the ball was in the pops area it would fall

So I put the game in test and just repeated the coil firing and slowly goes down then just drops

So I will investigate the catch trip as that is what holds the ramp up. Maybe it’s catching but after vibration is loosens up then just comes back down

Excited to be part of this club shortly. Picked this game up at the Ohio show a few years ago and it needed a bit of work so I got on it then a little carried away.

Targets are deep like a bottle cap and are a pain to clean. They have a nice glow if they are clean. I was happy to find at least the blue strip simply comes unplugged. Sonic cleaner is the perfect way to get all the hard to reach areas.

I ended up tearing it down touching up the playfield and clearing it. Total rebuild.

#274 2 years ago

I Find the two holes visible areas that needs to be nice. I first cleaned with novus. Then sanded a little and bleached it. Finally i painted a light wood tone over it with a little wood grain showing through. Now I will add a little water based clear to seal it in. The Seltzer will get a little paint touch up as well.

Very interesting to find early serial number GI cabinet has black interior and rear paint. Also has the little white plug in the drain area.

I can tell you that the plastic in question is pictured top left, but is incorrect. Its a large plastic, partially clear and partially with art. It sits under another plastic. The one shown in the group is broken. Can't believe CPR reproduced a broken plastic. Pictured is my plastic with the tail piece in tact.

I am in need of GI cabinet decals as per title.
Prefer genuine. This IS my favourite machine EVER and I just cant leave it as is.

Reason being I bought retrofurbs set some years ago and only just been able to install them and not happy with them.
Mainly due to how long I left to install and one side was so stretched I can not be happy with them.
Any leeds or help greatly appreciated
cheers

I got mine from the guy on eBay. First set showed up frayed on the ends - the shipping tube was crushed by ups. He sent me another set. I'm happy with them.

How's the restore coming along?

#294 2 years ago

Just got to put new t moulding and she is pretty much done. Any suggestions of which colour?
Will get better pictures in a few weeks as I am showing her off and 3 other UNIQUE machines at the West Coast Pinball Festival here in Perth. The last show GI got played to death and one bloke offered heaps to buy her.
People that know me understand that this is MY GAME, " the best game ever" and love her soooooo much.
Have added pingraffix art and colour LED speakers to make her pop.
I am gonna eventually light up the top saucer and use the Comet fire LED which will look mint.

Maybe someone can help. My island has stop turning. The optos and the lock switch both regerister. I think it's in the relay but not sure. I have reflowed the solder on the relay board and it worked for a for a game or two. but has since stopped again. I looked on marcos for a new board but they are out of stock. Is there anyway to test the relay? I haven't really messed with these before.

Looks like its the relay. It's to weak to pull in. I did find a work around if anyone has this problem. I put a strong magnet on the back of the relay to help pull the contacts when it kicks in.

Hello all just joined the GI Skipper Club yesterday. I will need to clean up this play field, get new rubbers, and upgrade the bulbs to LED. Where do you recommend I go for this? I am afraid of some some of the color LED kits on eBay as I don’t want it to look tacky, just brighter and pop.

Also, there is black around all the edges of the mylar protectant. Should I try to remove this or leave as is?

DMD is also not working right… tracking that down now. If the DMD is the problem I will likely upgrade to the color DMD. This will be my first pin restoration!

Thanks in advance for the help!

If you are ever in doubt about LED's use warm or cool white for everything. I like silicone rubbers.

The manual has list of those required.

Just get her working right and thrash it.

Anyone making a clear plastic PROTECTOR set?
I see CPR has a replasment screened plastic set, but I don't want to go through the effort without also installing clear protective plastics under them.
Many years ago, I scanned an NOS set of GI plastics and sent the scans over to Pinbits to make protectors.
I didn't have a GI at the time, so I never had them send me a set to test-fit.
I assume Pinbits went belly-up, so who's doing protective plastics now, and do they offer a set for GI?

#300 2 years ago
