Try pinrestore.com. They sell both the tinned bare wire used for GI and 1/4" ground braid.

I certainly share this sentiment. I recently had a couple PF swaps in the hopper and looked extensively for bare stranded tinned copper wire and couldn't find anything for sale online or locally in reasonable quantities. There are a number of online retailers that offer small spools solid core tinned bus wire (which will certainly work fine for GI) but I want my games to look as original as possible. For me, it was worth paying a little more to get the Pinrestore wire knowing it would look closer to the stuff used in the factory.
Let us know if you find any other options.
