Looking great so far! Fading between brightness levels isn't supported yet?

#16 10 years ago

Bump. Hope more people see this.

Quoted from herg:

If you can't tell, I'm extremely excited. I wish I'd done this sooner.

I believe there has been a big need for this just as much as the LED OCD board. I'm glad you're enjoying this, I realize you weren't that enthused about it before. Seems to be paying off as it looks great!

#25 10 years ago

Very nice! Will fading between levels be next? Flashing straight on and off, like the start of Stiff in the Coffin, is the main reason we need something like this. It's severely disorienting. When one of our games does that I have to look away for a second. To me that's the main drawback of LEDs in GI. It turns a feature that was once nice into a major annoyance.

You know what I'm going to request now right?

Why not break the rectifier up into 4 seperate heat sinked diodes?

#46 10 years ago

So if the seperate diodes don't work could you go with a cooling stack for the rectifier like in a PC? Heat paste, sink, and fan?

Quoted from Wolfmarsh:

I've not got a particular 9V one I buy, I usually pick up the 12V ones from amazon or ebay, like this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002FH54L6/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00
here is an example of a 9V one I found during a quick search:
Ebay link

That would certainly be cheaper than developing your own solution too wouldn't it?

Quoted from Wolfmarsh:

Not trying to step on your toes, just help out. There was no need to play coy about not already having a power supply.

I sensed no snarkiness in his response. Why are you taking it personally?

I don't see why you would want fading only part of the time. The games were designed with incandescent lamps and the light shows are based around the inherent fading effects of those. Flashing GI is very disorienting to me.

And speaking of disorienting, a list of Williams WPC games that (in my opinion) would really benefit from smoothing flashing/dimming GI:

Addams Family during the start of multiball
White Water when locking balls
Creature with various events and attract mode
Doctor Who with multiball and attract mode

#80 10 years ago

Creature does quite a bit of dimming yes.

See this video, I expect the results to be nothing short of spectacular. Are you getting a test board? How does the left string lit ramp work? Looks like a GI string too.

If the high frequencies/duty cycles are causing premature LED failures why not add some smoothing caps to the strobed output? That will give the LEDs smooth DC voltage.

Any timeline for release?

#163 10 years ago

If the strobing frequency does not change between brightness levels why does the camera react and resonate as if it does?

#168 10 years ago

That must be it m00dawg, adjustments to shutter speed to compensate for different exposure levels. Lower shutter speed means less flicker (flashes blend together) higher shutter speed means flashes are more perceivable.

#170 10 years ago

In the case of LED OCD, The Lamp Matrix. Whooooahhh.

#172 10 years ago

Who the heck makes the ghostbuster ROMs? You always hear about them, but pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

#174 10 years ago

I'm not even sure you would have enough space in the backbox to run both boards. I believe Herg said you would have to locate one of them inside the cabinet.

#178 10 years ago

Are the backboxes for widebody games bigger too?

Harold needs a new pair of shoes!

I honestly can't imagine why anyone would use LED flashers.

#197 10 years ago

Wow, looks more like a flasher locked on there.

#202 10 years ago

Get this... F14, all LED flashers. And warming resistors removed!

The only thing he builds himself is the wiring harnesses.
