Hi, I have a Williams Indiana Jonesin and in the test mode i test bhrightness from 1 to 7 but all GI lights stay all together to the same maximum level of brightness so i havent the fade effect. I have already changed U1 and U6 and tryed diode and connection near this....but nothing.....Can anyone help me?

#2 7 years ago

Make sure the clock at U1 pin 11 is good and you have data on all of the input lines. I presume you are not using led's in the GI?

#3 7 years ago

There is a chip on the power driver that has failed

LM339 U6

#4 7 years ago

LEDs also mess up dimming (until you get a GI OCD board)

#5 7 years ago

I have data on all input lines and have already changed both: U1 and U6. I had leds but changed them becouse i want brightness effect so now i have incandescent lights.
I have data on pin 11 U1....what means the clock is good?

It's technically a clock, but will just look like data if checking with a logic probe.

Does the no dim setting affect the test? Ordinarily I would try on my own machine but I am not near any of my machines. If it does I think it's one of the higher 20s in the standard adjustments.

#8 7 years ago

There is a setting in the game menu which turns off the GI dimming.
standard adjustments. 25ish Allow Dim Illumination - set to yes.

#9 7 years ago

Too easy....GI dimming is already on yes

Check connection between Anode D38 ---> BR2 and Anode D3 --->BR2 and/0r replace both diodes.

#11 7 years ago

Tryed they are both ok...change anyway? Tried olso data on pin 11 U1 and is ok! Help!

Got 100Hz on TP4 (zero crossing) ? And still present at cpu-board U9 pin71 ?

Maybe we are near the problem! I have finded after anode D38 and D3 and exactly between BR2 and J101 this two flying wire isolated....what means? And why old flipper owner had this? Look also this BR2....is be already changed...a mistery...

BR2 is on the right where see that four fired solder with screw in the center...

I am absolutly sure, that the vias of BR2 are in some way destroyed!!!!!

#16 7 years ago

...and if is BR2?....How can test it?

#17 7 years ago

I have tryed with another powerboard and....have the problem again!! So the problem isn't in the powerboard that's ok! Maybe in the CPU board or not? And if is in the CPU board where i can made data contrls?

#18 7 years ago

Following. I have a FT with the same no dim condition.

#19 7 years ago

As zaza suggested, have you verified that zero crossing is present?

I would verify the cable is good before digging into the cpu board.

Me too...

Hmmm. Could be a signal from the ASIC, but most of the time, this is caused by a fractured trace from one of the two AC sides of BR2, to the Zero Cross detector via the diodes you note.

But.....if i have changed powerboard with another good and GI lamps not dimming again...means that the problem isn't powerboard but, maybe, CPU board....so now i try, as zaza suggest, connection up to U9 pin71

#22 7 years ago

Tryed connection up to U9 pin17 that's ok.... Don't know if is 100hz because can't measure it but data and connection is ok....
Help....

#23 7 years ago

So there was a hack on bridge2 ac-connections, shown on picture in post #13.
Could it be that previous owner had indeed a problem with GI and tried to fix it with wires to the 2 diodes D38 and D3 but still didn't get GI working and eventually put all solid GI-wires to GND on playfield and BackBox ?

A way to check this:
- turn machine OFF
-disconnect J119/J120/J121
-measure continuity between a GI lampsocket and GND.

(Ofcourse) there should not be continuity, but if there is, the machine's GI is possible hacked on playfield and backbox.

Thank you Zaza, i tryed and there isn't continuity....i tryed another CPU-board an brightness works....so the problem is CPU-board...i just tryed continuity between J211 pin 34 and U9 pin71....i have just changed flat cable....another idea?

#25 7 years ago

not really, but if you have a plcc extractor tool to pull the ASIC chip and swap it with the one from the other cpu-board, it may give some answers. If you don't have this tool, leave the chip in place.

#26 7 years ago

So this is the last chance? The Asic?

#27 7 years ago

This is the last thing I can think about, maybe someone else has a bright idea ?!

#28 7 years ago

Thank you very much the problem was the Asic!!

#29 7 years ago

Next -- the ASIC might not be bad. It may have just been his connection.
