Well, it's probably not wise to use colors that naturally don't really work with the color already presented in the game. So for instance, with Avatar, you probably don't want to use red bulbs with its blue plastics (which is pretty much the entire game). So go for something that might match better, like blue bulbs. Maybe mix it up with green. Personally for that game I'd go simple and use cool white frosted domed bulbs, it will really allow the natural blue to pop out. But if you want to mess with actual colors, then try blue or green. Maybe purple, but that might be overkill. I wouldn't mess with orange, red, or yellow, it will probably just look bad.
Metallica, reds, oranges, greens, etc. should look cool. I'd use clear-domed, two-LED incandescent-style LEDs, like what Stern currently uses for GI on their Premium models (and I guess newer Pros now).
