Two TOTALLY different games that don't warrant comparison, that represent the best that JJP and Stern design philosophies can bring.

I think they're both winners for entirely different reasons. I'd like to have them both equally for different reasons.

Quoted from CaptainNeo:

maybe that's part of the problem. A lot of you new guys are only here because of the glitz and bling. If you would have been around in the days before even the DMD. most of you probably wouldn't even be playing pinball now. hence why you think it's such an awful thing, to have a one color dot screen.

I think there's a lot of truth in this.

It's not a disparaging, just a valid, observation. Some of us are in it for nostalgia, some for the new bling (and newcomers are welcome as well as downright essential).

Thats why I wrote earlier I think BOTH TH and GB are great but not comparable pins, representing the best of two totally different philosophies.

Be glad we have BOTH in this hobby!!!

Quoted from CaptainNeo:

I have a set of NOS WOZ fields sitting here right now, and i can show you it dimples just the same as a new Stern field. It's the wood, not the clearcoat that matters. If that top layer is pine (nobody would ever do this) it's going to dimple like crazy compared to if the top layer is something like birch. Clear really cannot hold back the force of the ball. Just a barrier for the ink.

This.

And I LOVE my WOZ. And i I have a couple Sterns that have a thin, thin, clear. But it doesn't really affect dimpling. Your playfield either has a strong dense plane of wood or it doesn't. Luck.

But Stern's thin clearcoats, at least from my gen of Sterns (a TSPP and LOTR) don't polish nearly as well.
