Quoted from rai:The Hobbit created a buzz, was announced in November 2012 around the same time as Stern announced The Avengers pin.
Let that sink in.
That's insane. Really.
Quoted from usandthem:Well, they've collected the money on the LE's, at least. I'm sure they'd like to sell lots of standards.
Or the yet-to-be-created Arkenstone LE to be sold on SkyMall?
Quoted from alveolus:The slow side-to-side ball movement and the lack of viscerally satisfying shots in THe Hobbit drain much of the energy from the experience.
You're left with a beautiful and cerebrally entertaining game, but for many that isn't enough to captivate them the way Ghostbusters seems to be doing.
Yeah I only put 3 games on GB, but loved it much more than the Hobbit. I can understand owning a pin and "figuring it out over time" but satisfying shots on TH are lacking. Of the pins I have at home, I went through just some of "satisfying shots" and there are lots...
SM: Doc Ock, Sandman, Venon
RS: Bunker, Blast Zone, Ted, Dozer
TSPP: Garage, Couch, Mode Start, Left Ramp
CFTBL: Slide, Kiss, Snackbar, Left ramp
IJ: Mode Start, Both Ramps, Scoop
MET: Cross, Piston, Snake, Sparky, Scoop, Captive Ball
I swear The Hobbit plays even wider than it is. Every toy is outside and feels miles away from the flippers.
Quoted from PanzerFreak:The middle of TH is only seems empty when the 4 pop up's are down.
The Hobbit does have a lot going on it, see the list below that Keith posted a while back. In addition to the items below the large LCD display, miniature LCD display, code, animation and sound work also add a ton of value to the game. Ghostbusters code is fairly deep yet code work on TH will be far more extensive, unique and nonlinear.
11 unprecedented full control drop targets
4 pop-up beast targets
4 ball diverters
2 magnets for catching/diverting balls
Player controlled kickback ball launch
31 totally different modes giving unprecedented breath
4 player selectable drop targets
Ring button with constantly changing game context sensitive uses
3 mini wizard modes
3 major wizard modes
1 super wizard mode
Industry leading graphics on 1080p monitor
Over 60 full rgb inserts
Bunch of white gi
You forgot legs. The Hobbit has legs, too.
Quoted from TKDalumni:Played both this weekend and my vote def goes to GB. It's more fun...just that simple. Honestly, feel WOZ is better all around than Hobbit.
Not an option in this poll, but I actually like Full Throttle better than both!
I don't like WOZ, but it's better than TH. I'd rather play that and I like the LOTR movies.
I expected to LOVE Full Throttle at Allentown but actually was disappointed. Felt cheap to me and the pin couldn't hit the right ramp from the left flipper.
Quoted from jar155:Don't be dense. That's a ridiculous statement. It's flat out untrue.
I never thought there was a market for a Keith Johnson Fathead until now.
Quoted from jar155:Luckily for Stern, GB runs circles around The Hobbit in regards to fun...and save for the LE version, at a much lower price.
JJP #3 and Stern's next game will be interesting to see do battle. Stern will still have price advantage, but Lawlor is hard to bet against when it comes to fun.
I'm played TH again today and agree. In an arcade or bar, it's complex and confusing to the casual player, which is what most people are. It almost parallels the movies: take 100 pages of text and make it 3 hours and repeat that 3 times.
That's the overriding theme on it.
In the home it'd be different for sure but I'd need to put way too much time into it for it to be rewarding.
Quoted from PanzerFreak:Also, I think Stern messed up by not basing a single mode on the second film and pretty much ignoring it completely. It would have been awesome if GB had two mode ladders with say 6-8 modes for each film that would have been selectable.
