Quoted from Gunnder:

Just so I understand how this works before I proceed:
Can I take out the official SD card that is in there right now that has the official 1.13 code on it, put in another SD card and then install the custom code? That way I can just swap out SD cards if I want to go between official and custom? Or does something else get written elsewhere other then the SD card which would prevent me from doing this?
And I guess the 2nd part of this question is, if the above can be done, does that mean that all current settings and current high scores will be saved on the original SD card and once I swap it back after trying the custom code, all my settings and high scores will remain as before? Or is all this information written elsewhere?

No, you cannot use an empty sdcard and install into it with a USB. The sdcard has the boot loader code in it which mounts the USB interface.

Yes, you can swap out the standard and custom code by swapping the sdcards. The scores are bound to the card so they will be tracked independently.

Quoted from imagamejunky:

I'm gonna complicate this a little...
Something you could do.
Download/install pinball browser (it's free and easy).
Load the new custom code sdk of your preference from this thread into pinball browser. Manually input your existing high scores into pinball browser (as the new defaults). Save! Load this new saved code sdk onto an empty usb stick. Update your machine as normal. You will now have the new custom audio mix AND your old high scores.
Furthermore, there's no reason to remove your old SD card and save a copy of it. If you want to revert back to stock you can download it direct from stern and then update your machine in the exact same way. And if you wanted you could use pinball browser to manually input your scores into the stock stern code as well.
I don't mess with the scores myself. I just start over fresh each time I update code.
Junky

I have done this as well on other games. I have changed the initials of the incoming high scorers. Simply change the value. I never mess with the SD card.

I have the V2 Pro code on my GB. I appreciate and respect those that are working on changing the music, but I'm going to revert it back to Stern's code.

I feel like the music tracks subbed in don't have the same quality and fidelity as the Stern compositions. The lyrics in the "Spook Central" song just sound like mumbling to me, even with my Flipper Fidelity speaker setup. The Stern compositions sound more natural and seamless between tracks than the 80's songs. This isn't Mudflap's fault at all, and I hope he doesn't take it that way. It was fun to try it, at least.

Subscribing for updates, great work guys!

My only complaint is there is still too much 'ok who let the dog out'-needs to be remixed with 'who let the dogs out who who who' Mix it up (;

#307 1 year ago

Its " ok, who BROUGHT the dog"

Our household is split on this issue. My wife and I are like the new music, but my 12 year old was playing and heard Bobby Brown and said "REALLY?!"
He had an idea, that I'm sure is not possible, to leave the original soundtrack and this new soundtrack and have them alternate for the modes to switch it up.

It’s not possible to have a ‘random’ mix of music, but it’s an important trait of family health to have an open and honest discussion about the cultural relevance of Bobby Brown.

OK - why don't you put my version for the premium on your first post for premium people so it's clear where everything can be found. I believe ours are pretty similar now too based on your last updates. Here's the link if you want to update.
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1tTE0I1PVY7rKK_EsSaC4g_Ln0qfo68nx
Summary:
Premium Version
We got one = Clean'in up the town
Spook = Savin Time
Storage Facility MB = Bobby Brown On Our Own (my own mix with the best parts to fit in small spot)
Video Mode = Magic (fits so well in this) which begins on the "please please" spot.
High Score = Higher and Higher (edited to fit well and play the best part of the song - the part you remember from GB2 when their in the statue of liberty
Library mode and music before plunge= Instrumentals from GB movie soundtrack
....could be a few more. Happy with it for now.

Fantastic thank you!!

Maybe this is just personal preference, but Storage Facility should've been Magic and Video Mode should've been On Our Own.

Since Magic plays after the storage facility is shut off.

other than that, though, I've played mine hours more this weekend just trying to hear all the new music. This makes the game nearly perfect, to me.

yeah I thought the same originally (b/c it would match the movie) but MB is so crazy and hectic that the best part of the magic song was just too slow IMO. Bobby really kicks it into the next gear. Glad you're enjoying it

Hey folks, apologies for noob or possibly repeat request, but , I have downloaded the latest spk for premium , but not sure what to do with it...just copy it to a fresh SD card at least 1 Gigabyte , or..?

Not sure if I need to follow some type of flashing process.

Any info appreciated. Thanks!!

Flash it like any other typical stern update.

Format USB Flash Drive to FAT32
Drag file onto USB stick
Insert stick into game
Turn on
Click update

I too reverted to original code. Never changed the original SIM on machine so easy to swap back. I think it only needed a few adjustments as the music is already very good in the pin. Stern did a fantastic job. Still needs code though to improve game and sort out a few bugs.

#325 1 year ago

So I hit multiball last night with the custom code, but I didn't hear the "On our Own" track...I think I did for a second, but then I possibly hit ANOTHER multiball and it went to some techno music (I think the original Stern programmed techno)

Just wanted to make sure I hear that On our own track...as I need more Bobby brown in my life...lol...

Also - does the quote "This chick is tooooasst!" showup anywhere? I'm a relatively new pin owner, with picking up Ghostbusters Premium just last friday, so not expecting to have heard everything yet. But I may get into modding the spk at somepoint because that final "who ya gonna call...I can't hear you" is a bit grating...want it to be another part of the song (something else w/vocals).

Overall, the SPK mods are quite good, hearing the original music from the movie before the plunger pull, so great.

Unfortunately all modes including the one with techno music overrides Bobby. Sucks but that's an inherent limit.

Umm, hmm, sorry , not sure i follow...how to get any of the bobby music to play then? Not hit another mode when you trigger it? Also what triggers it specifically? Thanks

We Came We Saw features Bobby Brown. Storage Facility does not have custom music. If you have a mode running during Storage Facility, it will play that music. If not, it plays the default music.

#329 1 year ago

Thanks Mudflaps & Delt...I guess I was confused, thought multiball triggered it ...all good, can't wait to get back to again tonight...what a great game and mod work

No you're right. My version (for premium only) has Bobby brown DURING storage facility. However, if any mode is running when you trigger mb it will not play as the mode music plays over it. If mode completed before MB Bobby goes on.

If storage facility mb is triggered during no modes Bobby will play.

I'm not good enough to leave Bobby to we came we saw haha. This way I can hear him.

Yeah, a few differences between the Pro and Premium. Thanks for clarifying.

This chick is toast would work well for the Gozer hurry up.

#333 1 year ago

I know I am late to this party, but do I simply download the file straight to a blank USB and then do a software update or do I need to do anything else?

#334 10 months ago

You load it the same way are you perform a code update. Since it considers it an update, you will lose your scores. If you want to keep then, use a program called PinballBrowser. You load the code file into it and there will be a High Scores tab. Enter your scores and names in here and rebuild the update file.

Really great, thanks for the hard work! How did I miss this until now...

Is this easy to roll back to original stern code if I don't like it or decide to sell?

I assume I could just download the spk from stern and run the update and that would covert it back?

Yes, just install the original code from Stern, works fine, and I have done this as well.

Hi Delt31 and all - bringing back up / zombying this thread...I wondered if there's any updates as the ColorDMD is now available, as I believe requires a firmware update. I'm assuming such a firmware update to support ColorDMD would wipe all the great audio Mod work. I wondered if there's a simple way to integrate the two (Color DMD and the Audio tweaks), or is it a complete re-work.

Any info appreciated

The firmware update is for the ColorDMD board. It has nothing to do with the game code.

The firmware for the ColorDMD will have to be updated if/and when there is a Ghostbusters code update that changes any of the dots animations.

Just in case additional clarity is needed:

Sound tweaks = game code firmware on the Stern hardware. Only time this would need to be reworked is when stern finally updates the GB game code. The new sounds would them be added to that.

Color dots = Color DMD firmware on the DMD hardware. This gets updated from the Sigma code upon release or any updates from the Color DMD folks. This looks at the display info coming from the Stern game code and over writes the information with color dots/shading.

Hope that helps clarify things.

I’ve been running this for a while but what does the latest version have for storage facility mb and stay puft?

I finally got to stay puft and seemed to be default and the version I have has onnour own for storage facility. Game is a premium.

I did not do the Premium, but on the Pro, those two modes are running the default music.

On the Pro, ‘On Our Own’ runs during We Came We Saw. Stay Puft is default.
