Like Gary would care! He'd feed you some bs about nothing changed w/ regard to the PF clearcoat... and how trivial the damage was to the original PF in the first place... and then ask the organizers to escort you out of the building. Not saying the organizers would do so... just that he has the ego (IMHO) that we'd feel that they should.

Correct; I don't have a high opinion of Gary based upon the way he treats his customers - you know the ones that have put whiskey or bourbon in his gullet all these years.

you can feather out the inserts all you want, but if they are shifting. It's going to do it again. The clear can be the suspect, but it's not the only cause. Many other factors can come into play besides the clear itself.

#303 7 years ago
Quoted from xfassa:

1) Scanned all insert artwork
2) Removed as much of original clear coat
3) Feathered sanded out the the inserts
4) Screen printed back on s

Ahhh... now that makes sense. Was trying to figure out how to take off the old clear without damaging existing art / text. This should be sweet. Looking forward to hearing the results.

According to the clear coater, they have been doing some insert comparisons between my LE playfield and a NOS Ghostbusters Pro playfield. I don't have details yet but they feel confident they can resolve the issues. Time will tell. Either way, worth the gamble to me.

So confident that you have decided not to reveal their name!

Fair comment.

well the sources I had about the issue, really had nothing to do with the clearcoating itself, nor the chemical makeup of the inserts or the wood. had everything to with physical characteristics. that's why i'm wondering. I have yet to have any ghosting on mine, and was told they found the issue and changed it with the field I received. So far it's held true.

#308 7 years ago

Man, I would love to know what the issue was.

You'd think it would be something simple, but in reality, I heard from an unreliable source that it was a trans-dimensional problem, or in layman's terms: a problem spanning multiple dimensions and or realities.

Rumor has it that an entirely robotic pinball company in the future sent an operative back in time to change the chemical makeup of Stern playfields. Mirco, who in the future makes all pinball playfields, sent it's own operative back to stop them.

Hey its as good as guess as any with Stern not saying anything, lol.

Oh no! Playfield terminators! Ahhhnold running around changing chemical formulas instead of killing everything in sight!

AAAHHHH!! My playfield is ghosting/chipping! It's been TERMINATED!

The sheet is covering up what Louis Tully is doing to him.

Can you take pictures before you re-populate the playfield?

Sure. Any specific areas?

Just of the playfield. I'm dying to see how it turned out.

I've been following this... hopefully, you will be very happy with end results.

For a "clearcoater" you'd think he'd send a pic at an angle showing reflections off the lights, etc to show off the smoothness of his coats and the multiple sandings done in between...

You can't tell a thing from that pic.

Hope it turns out nice.

#329 6 years ago

Let the re-assembly begin!

Brian from HSA did an amazing job.

#331 6 years ago

You are absolutely nuts. I wish I had the confidence you have to take on a project like this with a brand new game. I'm sure I would have just whimpered in the corner and done nothing about it. The playfield looks amazing. Good luck with the assembly.

#332 6 years ago

Wow really cool. I am going to do this if I start to experance any real wear on my playfeild. Going to play the fuck out of it until then. Good to now their is a nice option out their once or if I wear my playfeild out. I wonder how he kept the signature intact with all the sandings. Maybe he just did not redo that area?

#333 6 years ago

Looks beautiful, man. It's my favorite playfield art of all time.

I will refrain from commenting on the techniques used by HSA as I only know bits and pieces. If you are interested in this type of restoration, I would recommend contacting Brian directly.

I highly doubt the whole thing was sanded down.

Anybody know where this wire goes?

20170604_114734 (resized).jpg20170604_114734 (resized).jpg

#342 6 years ago

Getting close, just fixing a few STERN mishaps.

The ball was getting stuck between the side rail and ball guide inside the Newton ball cage. If you look closely at the pic you can see the top hole for the ball guide has been bored out so some material could be wedged into it resulting in a wider opening for the ball to pass througn. Not sure if this factory fix was just for my machine or all of them. Anyway, it wasnt a perfect fix so I decided to design/print a better solfution. If anyone has questions, just ask.

nice, the 3d print might give you problems when the balls return.

#345 6 years ago

I couldn't wait until morning. GHOSTBUSTERS!!! Looks and plays amazing. Well worth the effort.

Ecto1a2003 - 3D printed part is working flawlessly. I have a version 2 already designed if the ball return gives me issues.
