Joined yesterday ! Already have a light baffle kit like the ones I do for Tron, Xenon, Star Wars and DE Jurassic park. Also a light up city is being prototyped on the printer as I type.

Love this game. Lots of air balls so a shield is desired. What one do you guys recommend ?

I printed a set of the wedge option and installed them since the playfield is up for the light baffle install. I will still prob look at buying one of the suggested air ball guards.

#9429 2 years ago

I put the wedge on the vertical leg so it stayed away from the light board. Not sure if it’s different on other models.

I might end up making my own. Not that hard, just have to find the parts, hopefully all locally.

Its just standard aircraft cable we have rolls of it a work in different sizes. You can buy it at home depot.

Baffle kit is done. Makes a huge difference. Also made a funnel baffle for the large flash insert in the middle of the pops but did not take a picture.

That’s awesome, a lot of games need these!

I will have them posted up later today on the marketplace with my other machine kits. The city mod is about 1/4 of the way finished with the prototype printing.

With the wedges I installed yesterday and changing the flipper power from hard to Norm air balls are way less now but not completely gone

The instructions on their site does not even seem to show this style of connection and the controller with a usb connection.

#9496 2 years ago
Quoted from dnaman:

Wow, this guy is a bit of a hack. I was surprised at how much of a collection he has and yet carelessly rips through the box. He seemed quite bothered about the base being plastic and brown. To be fair, you would want to glue and secure it to use as a topper though but above all didn't appear to have read the included manual. The 'green lever' is used to release (pop out) the end. You manually push in the end and then use the lever to release it. It also makes different sounds while retracted and released. It also took him until the end of the video to determine that the intensifier knob on to works. Odd way to cover a new product but regardless I think that it is something that would likely sell for much more.
Here is a more enthused reviewer, one who not only read the manual but also interviewed one of the prop guys from the movie:
Hopefully a few others here get one and we can try to find someone to help tie this into the pin. I'm not sure how exactly but I like the potential. Of course if nothing else it does look quite cool on top or you can create a mount and mount/hang it on either side of the backbox. I will look to see if I can convert this the from 3x AA batteries to a DC adapter at the very least.

I had to get one yesterday because it so cool. I also wold like to find a way to tie it in to work with the machine. I think having it actually do stuff during game play might be hard to notice over the game volume. I was thinking of possibly trying to start out easy and set it up so when you power up the machine some sort of controller can replicate the turn on switch sequence so you can hear it power up as the machine boots.

Dont get me wrong but proton streams are cool but them running around buildings does not see very proton streamy to me, Feels like it wants to be Tron. The ones that encapsulate the ghosts make more sense to me.

Quoted from Rager170:

Ill be honest, I have a couple of these installed, including on my GB. If you are wanting the LCD version to have the Hi Res setting and to not have the "dots", I dont think I would bother. On mine, there is so much motion blur when using the animated settings that I couldnt stand it anymore and put it back to dots. This is in reference to the GB game specifically having blur..
Just my 2 cents...

I have the LCD one in my tron and was thinking about switching it over to the GB machine. The GB has way better animations that i think deserve the colour and tron can go back to orange.

#9571 2 years ago
Quoted from Rager170:

Give it a try and let me know what you think. I cant stand all the motion blur on it. But otherwise, id choose the LCD every time for other machines. I have one on my TWD machine and it looks fantastic.

But the LCD in dot mode it still fine correct?

Quoted from sepins:

Thanks for the response!
For almost $500 shipped I was a little bummed, but hoping it will look better after messing with it.

How does the lcd in small dot mode look compared to the led display ? I’m undecided on what one to get. The only reason I would go with lcd is if the small dots look better than the normal size dots.

The firehouse ghostbusters deserves. Prototype is finished. Just need to work on the interior furniture now. Each level is lit and the roof hole is connected to the existing flasher so it flashes purple. The pinstadium lighting also runs properly above it and does not make contact with the roof. With the rest of the lit up buildings things should tie together nicely.

STOP MAKING WORK FOR ME! LOL

#9834 2 years ago

Thanks for the interest. I’m plugging away making them. I will be doing batches of six at a time as It works out best with how I have my printers set up.

I’m getting lots of pms requesting one. If you have not already done so please pm me and I will post up a list and where you are in the batch lineups in a day of two.

I’m not replying to Pms at the moment as I don’t want to get 100 different conversations going and then I lose track.

The ghost trap is also being redesigned to open and close during an event.

Another batch of baby stargazers are born for the firehouses.

I haven't ran away! Been printing and printing. Got the interior items all drawn up and sorted out but just trying different colours for different items so everything does not look all the same.

#9879 2 years ago
Quoted from Flash71:

I would be interested in one or two. Will they have graphics on them?

Since my last picture posted they now have the following changes.

-Holes in floors for fire pole have the metal fall guards like in the movie, real brass for the fire poles

-Furniture on main floor, wood colour lockers as per movie, corner shaped desk with a "we got one" desk button, chair , papers scattered on desk top and im trying to do a non lighting desk lamp.

-Furniture on second floor, grey colour lockers, kitchen counter with uppers, round table and chairs, and the Stargazer pinball with legible graphics.

- The roof now screws on and the 2 fasteners and now hidden with magnetic clip on covers so they look like roof components.

- The front of the fire house now has a leg that goes down all the way to the playfield to keep it more rigid. (this can not been seen as the existing plastic covers the leg)

-Added a Ghostbuster sign to the side of the building that is above the ramp area.

-Added stone features to the roof line like the real firehouse.

-Made the rear of the firehouse blocked off internally so the wires for the general lightning and the flashing roof blow hole can now run down without being seen.

#9880 2 years ago

This picture is still with a prototype fire hall, but it shows the signage and stone accents. This also shows the bad quality draft print for my central city layout. I reduced the number of buildings and made them larger so i can light them up like my Tron city mod. the buildings will possibly be different tones and all have different colour roofs and building features. Some windows will be blacked out and make it look more real.

Quoted from oradke:

I agree, it looks great. I'm also super interested.
Any plans for lighting inside?

The inside was lit from day one. Each level has 2 led post lights installed and simply plugs into the existing playfield connection. The original flasher led at the top of the old prop is relocated to the new blast hole in my firehouse.

#9889 2 years ago
Quoted from BigTP25:

Where did you get the library mod?

This is also in my build list lol. It will compliment the theme of the other buildings I am currently doing.

#9894 2 years ago
Quoted from D-Piddy:

This looks fantastic! I just rejoined the club earlier this month and have been decking out my premium. Really like how this sits with the pinstadiums too!
Were you planning on starting a preorder list?

It is designed to clear the pin stadium lights so you will not have issues at the roof line. I will post up the finalized details of the final firehouse later today. So far the list has 28 people. I am doing a run of 36 only for this mod so 8 spots are left. Pm me if you want on the list.

#9897 2 years ago

It's all finalized!!!

I don’t want to clutter up this thread with Pinsider name lists and progress posts so I will create a new one. Anyone with interest in the firehouse mods or any of my GB mods please jump to this link below to follow along. I will also be listing my Central City mod, Library mod, PKE tower mod , and Ghost trap mod in the new thread. Every once in a while I will make a mod post in this original GB club thread.

Quoted from Pinkitten:

What an awesome mod! This is one of the very best mods I’ve seen a Pinsider make, with tremendous detail and finish. Very nice upgrade! Thanks, Wolffcub! [quoted image][quoted image]

Cool glad you like it.

Did you have the unfortunate scenario with the stargazer pinball machine ? Due to the such small legs and the top heavy machine it’s causing a slight issue during shipping. I see you put a pad down. I have increased the thickness of the new resin print machine so the legs have more contact with the floor now.

I blame the postal service for playing football with the packages.

#10031 2 years ago
Quoted from Pinkitten:

Yeah, no worries. The Stargazer wasn’t hurt, just came loose during shipping. I was going to re-glue it but the tape is fine, sorta looks like a rug under the game. I forgot to remove the original lamp from the game during install, so I had 3 wires coming down through the hole beneath the firehouse at the end, which was confusing. But I realized the problem and then it wasn’t too hard at all. Very happy with it!

Next time the glass is off give the corners of the roof a light tap down with the rubber handle of a screw driver to help seat them down and that slight gap will go away.

#10169 2 years ago

You know you would not have that lost ball issue behind the old firehouse if you had my firehouse installed LOL.

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/wolffcubs-ghostbusters-firehouse-city-library-trap-pke-mods

The mod I sell is the LIGHT BAFFLE KIT for under the playfield. They eliminate the light bleed from adjacent near inserts so you get a much more crisp look when they are on. On my own machine I just sandwiched the colour lens of my choice between my light baffle kit and the playfield underside and it works great. I sell specifically designed baffle kits for a few different machines.

Pin Monk offers a kits specifically for changing the colour of the ladder inserts only for this GB machine.

I installed my colourdmd yesterday and its set to the dotxl. I think its perfect, im not a fan of the scan setting at all for this game. I even changed my tron from scan to dotxl and like it more.

Quoted from bicyclenut:

I know, kinda feels like cheating. Might as well play with the glass off. To each their own.

So what are the thoughts on other games that have drain saving functions? Magnets like Black Knight, any game with kick backs, or ones with a pop up center post, or ones like globe trotters that have lane redirect gates?

The discussion now it that they are working on a way to integrate it into game play to earn the ability to use it so it really functions just like any other game that has a ball save feature.

*edit*

Not bashing or starting a fight with anyone, but asking on peoples thoughts.

#10478 2 years ago

On the PRO model what do you think the hardest shot to make is?

On the Limited and Premium what do you think the hardest shot to make is?

#10485 2 years ago
Quoted from bicyclenut:

I feel if a game was designed that way from the factory then it should be used to it’s full potential. Adding something to make the game more challenging or easier is a form of cheating. Cheating the way it was originally designed. If this game was in the lineup in a tournament it wouldn’t have these devices that alter game play. Drain blockers or larger flippers or an added center post I personally don’t like on GB games. But in reality who is anyone really cheating against? Yourself? If you like to play the game with these things in the game then, more power to you. To each their own. I do however like mods and lighting effects in my games. Anything to make them more detailed.

I can see it as being a little bit of cheating if lets say people modded it in a way like drilling holes in the playfield, adding random posts, and altering other physical characteristics but they were planned for the game but bailed on completing it so stern installed plastic plugs in the designated holes. The mod just finishes up the initial design intention. If the game came with them on the Premium and limited from the factory I would not walk away from the machine considering it a method of cheating.

I agree if the machine was used in tournament play they would more than likely not use that feature but it would of probably have a menu setting to disable it or greatly reduce how it can be used / earned during game play, just like how setting such as ball saving times can be altered / disabled.

Currently the lack of integration to the game code and how its implemented does make it too easy to use at the moment but that's being worked on.

Anyone still selling the library mod as I can't find it still available anywhere? I want to upgrade to a color DMD. I read the thread debating LED vs. LCD and think I am settled on the LCD. It appears I can change the size of the dots which is what swings me toward LCD. Anyone have a recommendation as to where to buy from? Thanks in advance!

I made this so others can see the differences.

All this PKE talk made me dig thru my shelf and finish the test install.

I also have this Pop firehouse and it's so close to Wolffcub's that I was wondering if he took inspiration from it.

Absolutely not. Mine is 100% my idea and I used the original movie images for the elements I incorporated. Anything can fit with enough jack and slash so the pop one might work.

Seems to be about an 1" too tall, going to test fit it when I remove the firehouse plastic later this week. Just looking at alternatives.
wolffcub Love your mod, I PMd you about being put on the backup to the backup list for it and about your Trap mod for the Pro as well.

I’m fairly close to starting the backup list.

I was just wondering if the subway mod would be ok with Woffcub's PKE mod coming ? I believe on the buildings to right but maybe still blocked ?

I was also like the train car but seeing thru it was an issue. I did a bridge instead that rests on the ramp top ledge.

I have been holding out hope that Wolfclub would make more. Just wondering how plan B looked.

Im back baby! Took some leave time from Pinside. I have started to make more firehouses, ghost traps and PKE buildings.

Quoted from Pinkitten:

People love your mods, especially that killer firehouse. I have one and it’s just awesome. Great to hear more people can get that upgrade.

Thanks for the kind words. TMNT now also has a "doll house" mod like my firehouse that will be available soon.

Quoted from cottonm4:

I managed to solder a number of SMT chips with some UNO displays for early solid state Bally's. I have also had to replace a couple that went bad on one of the boards I bought. All I used was a Hakko desolder gun and my wedge tip Hakko solder iron. It was not hard to do using conventional solder tools.
But this little animal on the GB CPU is beyond anything I would want to try.
This picture makes that U30 chip look huge but it is teeny tiny and it is buried deep down below the cap and whatever number 680 is. It is way beyond my skill level and my box of tools.

Thats an easy swap out.

With conventional soldering equipment?

My CPU is OK. Pinkitten has the blown CPU.
I appreciate your offer.

A basic solder station will do the trick.

I received my Firehouse mod today. Are there any instructions on how to make this swap? I'll figure it out but if someone has instructions, that would be much appreciated.
It is nice. And of good quality. It has a solid feel to it.

Take a look at the business card that was attached to the packing slip. It has a link to the instructions online.

here is the link also.
