Quoted from Rokablly:#Benefitsofbeinganewbie
You're a newbie, but don't be "that guy"...f*cking hashtaggers.
Quoted from frolic:booyah. Congrats. An LE # that means something.
#2 means something alright
Quoted from MrBellMan:All that LE green trim looks nice, but how about hot pink? Now that's what I'm talking about! Huge shout out to Bryan Kelly for referring me to Matt at Back Ally Creations and an even bigger shout out to Matt!
Wow, that color combo looks incredible. I think if you had told me you were going w/ that color I would have scoffed....but seeing it - wow, totally works!
Quoted from MrBellMan:! Selling because I can't handle the really bright proprietary color changing LEDs that Stern has installed. My eyes simply can't handle it which is too bad because we really like this game...
That's too bad ,considering all you've done to it. Have you tried using something between the LED and insert to diffuse the light? Experiment with some parchment paper. My Tron had one of those LED strip light kits installed when I got it, and for me it was way too bright. I put a layer of parchment paper between the lights and translite and it really mellowed it out.
Quoted from zucot:Anyone know if Dwight's talk at CAX is being streamed?
Don't cross the streams!
Quoted from JDD:The mode animations are awesome. I need to get through more modes to enjoy them.
Would be nice if you didn't have to replay the same one 4 times before moving ahead.
Quoted from chuckwurt:Play better and you won't have to keep playing the same mode.
When a guy says he's had the game for 3 months and hasn't seen Marshmallow Man mode...something is wrong. It's not about playing better. It's about the game forcing you to repeat things that games normally don't force you to repeat, a long sequence of events to qualify Mode Start, coupled with airballs and a huge flipper gap. The game code can be more fun with some tweaks.
Quoted from smokedog:I've had TWD for close to a year. Never been to Siege. Never been to LMS. I've been to Horde a handful of times.
I've certainly played CDC, Barn and Arena a heck of a lot.
Code could be more fun with a few tweaks?
TWD isn't a story-based mode type of game. Not a relevant comparison.
Quoted from Mitch:You start a mode with a skill shot or bashing slimer it's not hard at all. and if your sick of one mode there are 3 different choices you have each time.
I'm sick of mostly seeing those same 3 every time. STAY PUFFFFTTT!
Quoted from chuckwurt:Um yeah. This game is super hard and super rewarding when you finally get it to open up!!
*shakes head*. Score is irrelevant, that doesn't tell me what modes you got through. Most people enjoy mode progression in mode based games, score just happens to accumulate as you play.
Quoted from flynnibus:Yeah - the player needs to get better
Many owners never get deep in their games. When did this new rule of 'every objective should be easily reached' start in your mind?
You. Still. Don't. Get. It.
There's a difference between CHALLENGE and REPETITION.
I've never seen Valinor in LOTR. Doesn't bother me.
I've never seen Encore in AC/DC. Doesn't bother me.
I've never seen Sperm Attack in Family Guy. Doesn't bother me.
Wizard modes are SUPPOSED to be relatively unattainable. Regular story based modes are NOT.
Doesn't GB have 3 Wiz modes? (We Came We Saw, Are You A God, We're Ready to Believe You). I don't care if I'm not good enough to get to the wizard modes. I care that I have to see "We Got One" 6000 times and not the other modes.
LOTR doesn't make me replay and complete a mode before being able to choose a different one.
My issue is LINEARITY and REPETITION (and cheap airball huge-gap bullshit) ....NOT CHALLENGE.
Quoted from Ripley:You. Say. This. Every. Day.
Haven't in a while but Flynnie had to dig up old shit.
I still have time to cancel my order....if I don't have one on order, I'll have no reason to have an opinion about it anymore....then I'll vanish in the wind.....
Also, Ripley = Kaneda.
Quoted from Ripley:But it seems clear you do not like how the code is arranged, at all. They aren't going to change that. Why stay in on it if it bothers you so? Owners don't seem to mind and the reviews have been overwhelmingly positive. Just curious.
I'm being troughlled.
Quoted from jar155:The mode linearity is not a problem over 350 games in. I've been to the end of some ladders, but not all. You can hop around, you can focus on multiballs or ghost collecting awards, or you can try to blast through a ladder. There's plenty of options how to play. Heck, I can blow through the first mode of a ladder before the ball saver ends. The ladder system makes for some really awesome tension when you just need that one more shot to complete a mode to see something new. It's great.
Glad you like it. I think if there was more personality in the non-mode parts of the game, it would bother me less. More voices, Slimer noises, etc...character! Hopefully that's coming in an update.
Quoted from jeffsgames:The difference is that in JP the modes aren't in chronological order. You can't randomize the GB modes. They follow the progression of the movie. How can you get do the ballroom before "We Got One"? Also, how can you do Stay Puft before the end? Three ladders allows for variety, unlike JP where there is only one ladder.
Every movie game ever has modes based on movie story points, yet can be played randomly. It's always worked for pinball before, no one ever complained. I've never seen someone wish that the LOTR mode progression followed the films in a linear way.
Quoted from imharrow:Oh crap. I must have missed a software update on STLE and Spiderman.
ST has mini 3-deep ladders and 6 to chose from at any given mode start. Like GB, I do not like the modes that force replay and completion....but it's a bit more varied than GB.
Spider-Man has random modes. All the white arrow modes - pops change what order they're lit, and you aren't forced to complete them. If you win, you get a shot multiplier, if you time or or drain, you're onto the next mode. No one has ever had an issue with the villain modes being sequential since you can stack them with each other and white modes - and again, no repetitive replays.
Quoted from Meph:Yeah that will be my next step. As soon as I mentioned it before I was told to change the spring. That fixed the issue for others but not for me. I will be looking at adjusting him next.
Sounds like TF - the ball would fly up and hit Ironhide. That's what happens when the launch lane is a ramp and has no "roof" type plastic to block it from flying up.
Quoted from embryon:Each to their own as far as likes and opinions. GB rules are fine and unique compared to the vast number of non sequential games out there. Lots to choose and buy from. Now I have games like TZ etc that are non sequential or have played Sterns where stacking etc can occur. To me its like having your wife telling you to put out the garbage, the kids wanting your attention, and the dog shitting on your lounge room floor all at the same time. Doing all these tasks at once means a half ass attempt at all. Same with non sequential games. Get several modes going, flip like hell at nothing and hope to stay alive until you get another series of modes running at once. Really no real need to aim for shots is there, just don't lose the ball. Another way to view sequential games is to watch 5 tv's at once imo.
My issue with GB isn't so much the sequence but the repetition of the same mode per game. I'll defend Road Show all day long from the people who say it sucks due to linearity. Sure, RS is somewhat linear but you don't have to do the same city 2 or 3 times in a row.
Quoted from catboxer:Dude, flip your arms around. Hope you never buy a TSPP, either. Super fun mode!
The difference is that TSPP stays that way for the mode. GB switches back and forth when you hit the captive ball. It truly is mass hysteria!!!
Quoted from scarybeard:I'm at over 2 weeks owning a GB pro, and on location at my studio lobby (we are a video game company) me and a few other employees have racked up 800+ games. Here's my thoughts:
It's challenging. I love the design of the game. It is pretty easy to teach newbies the rules (I'm always amazed how many people didn't know pinball had rules...) and its really difficult to master those shots. Currently no one has completed a 'tower' of story modes. I have read that you get the "we came, we saw, we kicked its..." multiball mode once you complete all story modes in a stack, but no one has yet managed to complete " back off man...", "The Ballroom", or "Gozer".
...and that is why I currently hate the game. 800 games and no Marshmallow Man? To anyone who's about to say "Play Better", stop typing - this game is just a dick.
Quoted from delt31:I have never seen one poster constantly bash a game like you. It's like you love hating this game - saying it everywhere you can (multi threads). We get it - you hate the game. Can't you stop being such a downer or at least stop posting about it?
Only cheerleaders allowed? Have I ever asked anyone who thinks its perfect to stop posting? Put me on ignore if it hurts you so much to read some dissent.
Quoted from Monte:The problem is as a negative cheerleader, you never stop with the diatribe and you continue to vociferate loudly anytime a positive notion is posted. It gets insipid.
Insipid? Please. Am I insulting anyone? Look at the people who've spent years of their lives being negative about MMr - what's their motivation? Pure greed, hatred of Rick, etc - THAT'S insipid. What's my motivation? I want the game to be fun so I can buy one! Oh, what a horror!!!
Quoted from Monte:Obviously, you do not understand what insipid means. That's the horror.
You don't understand that this is a discussion forum. If you disagree with what I'm saying - DISCUSS IT! Tell me why I'm wrong - tell me why the rules are a masterpiece. Engage. If you cant do that, put me on ignore if my dissenting opinion is too much for you to handle.
Quoted from Monte:Your compunction of the above is noted. It has nothing on your discord, rather the frequency of understanding your steadfast anguish of a pinball game in its infancy of rules and other issues that you propagate day after day, post after post or a need to contravene after a positive post.
Don't blame the messenger. This is a $5k-$8k+ game. It's our duty as customers & fans to tell the truth & share our experiences about these frivolous and expensive toys. We're not under any obligation to blow smoke up anyone's ass.
Quoted from oldskool1969:Stoked to get to play both pro and premium recently and I really got to say that the pro has less air balls and much, much better flow.
Magnetic sling shots are too unpredictable ( good or bad thing ) subway doesn't really add that much, in fact it seems to frustrate me, right crossover ramp is an absolute prick of a thing to hit and did I mention more air balls!
I wouldn't have thought that based on looks, but the pro really is a great game and to me the better choice. Still has a few issues that need sorting though- airballs and cheap drains
Honestly, I kind of like Slimer better on the Pro. It's kinda neat that he's hovering ...and when he floats down, he does this little "hover" motion. Having him come down from the city on the Prem/LE doesn't really accomplish anything, and since his side-to-side moves aren't tied to inserts like BDK's crane, it's kind of pointless to have him going back and forth.
Quoted from Air_Pinball:Couldn't disagree with you more. Slimer gets "out of the way" visually when he's not being used on the Premium/LE.
He's still there...you just see him over the buildings, facing the side...It's a bit cluttered...it's not like some amazing magical effect when he comes into play. I think it looks a bit better with him hovering & visible vs. cluttered and visible.
Quoted from Air_Pinball:It isn't pointless to have him move side to side. He is able to block more shots, and it is more challenging to hit him.
He doesn't really block anything...he's so floppy that hitting him usually results in the ball going right past him, like "hitting" a spinner. No one has complained about GB having a lack of challenge.
Quoted from Air_Pinball:Did you tap into the Grey Goose early this week?
No, I haven't seen your wife yet this week....and we're both confused as to why you call her that...but, whatevs!
Quoted from Air_Pinball:Oh, and it seems you're trying to talk yourself into a Pro now.......
Just conversation and observation. I don't buy Pros.
Quoted from Air_Pinball:You're confused by statement. The Grey Goose is your grandmother. Cheers, Stifler!
Which one - the dead one, or the one that's going into hospice?
Quoted from Air_Pinball:Which wife were you referring to? My college GF who died one year after our marriage, or my current wife?
Take your pick...you were the one suggesting I tap them!
Quoted from flynnibus:Sounds like just a quick bail out fix for those whining about needing to play better.
It's a fantastic fix for those who don't want to see the same modes 5 times per game. "Play better" is irrelevant. The game will always be physically hard. It just won't be repetitive now !!!
Quoted from TimeBandit:Well, I think it's a valid fix, but it has to be complete with a change in the ultimate payoff. Agree that it's sort of not right if it just reaches the end goal timing out. Sort of hollow victory.
The physicality of the game hasn't changed. It will still be a challenge. If you don't like it, change it in the options.
Quoted from TimeBandit:It will be perfect if it plays out a bit like Tron. it's not about punishing the guy who can't get there it's about rewarding the guy who can get there
In the meantime, the game will feel more balanced in terms of its content vs. it's difficulty. You need to get thru the mode ladders to get to the different wizard modes, right? So - wizard modes are the reward.
Quoted from flynnibus:Can't wait for the new complaints that will be sure to follow.. like 'it needs more wizard modes' or 'where are the benefits from finishing modes'.. or 'I'm bored with it..'
Wrong. There are 100's of mode based games in existence that people aren't bored of...NONE of them have ever had rules like GB that forced replay and forced completion...people love those games. Now people will love GB....and if you DON'T, these are OPTIONS! Change it back to the shitty version if that's what you prefer!!!
Quoted from flynnibus:It's like a cheat code that gets you to the end.. 'hollow victory' is right.
Wrong. The game is still PHYSICALLY difficult...you still have to play well to keep the ball in play to get ahead.
Quoted from flynnibus:And really.. if you find yourself stuck on who brought the dog as the common jeer was... you suck.
Judge people all you want...but the bottom line is - this is a PHYSICALLY DIFFICULT GAME! Yes it's 3 shots but if you go through all the bullshit to start a mode and then drain after making 1 or 2 shots, you gotta go thru all the bullshit again, and you're on the same mode. NO GAME DOES THIS! Now this game doesn't either! Horray!
Quoted from flynnibus:I have friends that hated stern's because they were 'shoot everything' games... instead of a jackpot.. everything is a jackpot! etc rules. Now we just continue that trend... of reducing the skill.
I am disappointed these are the defaults.
The rules of this game are still the same. The repetition of content factor has been reduced. It's still physically the same game. Challenge is still there....the problem was REPETITION. You start Who Brought the Dog, and because the physical design is hard as balls, you drain...then you had to hit ghost, hit Slimer a bunch, hit the mode again and RESTART Who Brought the Dog. That was annoying as fuck! This update has two solutions to that, and you can use them both or use one or the other. Now if you start Who Brought the Dog and drain, the mode will keep going and you can finish it! ...and if you "suck" and don't finish it, you can see a new mode if you're good enough to start a new one!
Quoted from flynnibus:Wrong
Wrong
You're only on that mode again if you start that ladder. Two, no other game requires completion and re-qualifying? Guess you've not played High Roller Casino? and we go keep going on and on with other games that force you to re-qualify or force you to get completion to get credit.Wrong
You could have started any other ladder if you didn't want to play dog again. Two, you drained, you had the very suggested path of using the skill shot to restart the mode again, or any of the ladders of your choice.. not just slimer.
If shooting a two+ inch wide orbit is too hard for you to start the mode... then practice more.
Having to qualify the mode start is not some new, cruel rule.. and GB gives you a single shot path to not only qualify, but start the mode too AND gives you the ability to complete and start a mode in the same shot. The qualifying is for those that MISSED.Both which you could have done before... the difference now is you get to progress further in the game for just being a participant.
Why fight. The game is good now and has adjustments to change it back to shitty just for you. Everyone wins.
Quoted from PanzerFreak:Does anyone know if it's normal on the premium for one side of magna sling flasher inserts to remain lit at times?
I'm pretty sure that after a certain amount of hits, they stay lit - and when they're lit, that means they're gonna do trickster magnet stuff with the ball. So if one sling got hit more than the other, that particular sling will stay lit to let you know it's goofy time.
Quoted from gweempose:There are quite a few bugs in the current code. I hope they eventually address them all. For example, has anyone shot the ball into the left scoop and then had it immediately kicked out without giving you credit for the shot? The game obviously knows the ball is there, otherwise it wouldn't be kicked out until the ball search. This happens occasionally on my machine. It has to be a bug, right?
That could just be a switch sensitivity issue. Same things happened on my Metallica in the snake mouth. I think if the game senses on/off/on/off from the switch, it'll kick it out without counting it. After tweaking the switch a bit - it doesn't happen anymore.
