I noticed on my GBLE that the Public Library has a black post installed on the right side when looking at the front. Also, there is a hole drilled in back to put the nut on the bolt that holds the black post.

What was - is this post supposed to be used for - odd to be there by itself.

thx.

Also... question - what voltage are the little flasher boards (520-6785-00): are these 12 VDC? 12 VAC?

Also, what is the little GI boards (520-5307-00): are these 5 VDC or 5 VAC?

thx!

Quoted from Delta9:

Making my own 19$ beats 6999 gawd dam

Did the same thing a few months ago.

FYI, instead of putting individual LED's in...I took apart a 555 green led and used the circuit board inside and then glued that in the back (which is mostly flat). Worked well.

Quoted from 30FathomDave:

No, I think we're fine. Mine was snapped by the weirdest airball I've ever seen. I dont think I could reproduce it if you gave me 1000 tries.

Do you know where it hit? (right side?) Did it hit Stay Puft and then the bracket snapped at the pivot point - this is 3D printed looks like. It does not look like a ball will fit in there?

#3464 6 years ago

I can make this protector with a "U shape" extension to the plastic protector.
Although I need to check ball launch - might interfere.

I also purchased Stay Puft mod - will look this weekend.

Quoted from 30FathomDave:

It hit all the way up by his head (and it hit HARD)! Like I said, craziest airball I've ever had on the game... or any game, for that matter. It figures it would happen only AFTER installing this awesome mod. The break happened at the pivot point. Here's a pic:

I don't want to cause any undue panic. I really do feel this was a freak thing that no one else is likely to encounter. My advice: install it and enjoy.
Since my Krazy Glue session yesterday, it's still holding up and working great.

OK, got it - does not sound like we could have prevented it (plastic protected that)!

However, looking at mine, that is the weak part of the pivot mechanism. It should be twice as thick plastic in this area.
I am sure Stay Puft can operate forever under normal conditions with this mechanical pivot mechanism design.
However, if it is SIDE loaded (say with a ball hit on Stay Puft - this is where stress can break that joint). Time will tell if this is an issue as others will hit Stay Puft in other areas.

Thanks for posting.

#3469 6 years ago
Quoted from MustangPaul:

That should be twice as thick if you ask me. I wonder why they made it so thin.

Agree - we were posting at the same time - twice as thick.

Hey folks- copied design from pinside guy who came up with new variation. Additionally, I have one that came with my machine (not sure if it was Arts but looks like it). It is for sale.

I was getting ball stuck and some airballs, so I recreated someone else's design which works. See pictures below, note the areas in pink to see the 2 different designs.

I am sure every design can be tweaked to make it better. Also sounds like Art is good guy.

Lastly I have a few left of the new design for sale on pinside Mods page and will probably not make a 3rd run.

Yup, Yours will work better, but a year ago, alt designs were soft "veto'd", when I made about 8 different protos.
The one you have for sale, with the engraving, is from Little Shop of Games.
There are a few subtle, but distinct differences.

Thanks Art. I was not sure where it came from.

I Need guidance- I read on pinside somewhere that on the left VUK people are putting a piece of something in there so the ball kicks out reliably to the right flipper.

So what material, where is it placed and can someone post a picture.
Thanks in advance!!

#4850 5 years ago

Another question. I have adjusted the springs on the drop targets understanding that a stronger spring gets the drop target out of the way quicker and causes less airballs.

Well I have tried both stronger spring tension and then back to regular strength and this really does not seem to fix the issue.

Have others seen a big reduction in airballs especially on the left drop target by adjusting spring tension?

Thx

#4852 5 years ago

Right orbit protector.

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/ghostbusters-airball-air-ball-right-orbit-protector-1

Also there is an adjustment to the gates as well on the GB threads - search that change.

#4861 5 years ago
Quoted from Psw757:

I know several recommend adjusting power or using the foam but on mine I simply loosened the bolts holding the scoop in place underneath and turned the scoop ever so slightly and tightened it back up and it's been working fine ever since. Only need to turn it literally a mm or two.

Will try this, adjusting power did not work so it is an alignment issue. Try your method first and then if needed add foam on left side.

#4872 5 years ago
Quoted from Psw757:

I know several recommend adjusting power or using the foam but on mine I simply loosened the bolts holding the scoop in place underneath and turned the scoop ever so slightly and tightened it back up and it's been working fine ever since. Only need to turn it literally a mm or two.

Reporting back - this worked.

With that said it was a pain to adjust the 2 screws from the top and the one from the bottom. Also, to get to the top 2 machine screws you have to pull the plastic off - big pain.

Now that it is done- no foam needed or power adjustment.

The real question is will it hold up over time. If not, foam will be next in line to try.

#4873 5 years ago

Repost - need some guidance.

I have adjusted the springs on the drop targets understanding that a stronger spring gets the drop target out of the way quicker and causes less airballs.

Well I have tried both (a) stronger springs (from PinballLife) and (b) reinstalling original springs and shortening them up to 20-25 revolutions.

Neither have worked. When the left target is up and I hit it dead on with the right flipper- always get an airball directly back at me ...then the airball hits the wire guide ramp (the one that crosses the playfield) and drops back onto the playfield.

Any other ideas? Anyone put washers underneath the 2 of the 4 screws holding the Drop target to give it a pitch? Does this work?

Thx

#4875 5 years ago
Quoted from Who-Dey:

Thats strange. I just shortened my stock springs and they drop easy right now, matter of fact the one on the right droos too easy so i need to work on that one some more. I've seriously considered just disabling them anyway because i dont think they add any value what so ever to the gamr, matter of fact i hate them.

My targets have to problem dropping or resetting with any of the springs. So that’s cool.
However, no matter the spring the left drop target (with direct hit) causes an airball to hit the wire guide-ramp.

Added over 6 years ago: That should say no problem dropping

#4969 5 years ago
Quoted from ScottyC:

If you notice in this pic (sorry not the best pic) the right orbit ball guide is a tad higher than the launch guide and the ball is hitting that and launching into Stay Puft or not transitioning smoothly into the right orbit. The very end tab of the launch ball guide is slid under the right orbit guide and is right up against the top side so there's no way raise that portion up. Should I grind down the orbit guide a bit? Perhaps use some mylar on the top of the ball guide ramp and drape it over the oribit guide?

I would check the ball guide - is the bottom flush with the playfield- tighten the bolts from underneath and any screws on the top of the playfield holding the ball guide flush with the playfield.

If this is the case - then maybe the ramp is not centered or is the wrong height. You should not have to grind or put Mylar down.

#5015 5 years ago

Looks good.
Mother machines that had ghosting were really bad.

#5023 5 years ago
Quoted from Utesichiban:

Thank you everyone. My eye doesn't even catch those things.
If there is small ghosting at the super jackpot insert and add-a-ball parts, any chance this will get worse over time? Should I ask him how many plays are on it? What I don't want to do is the buy the thing, have it worsen over time, and I end up stuck with something I'm not going to be able to sell without taking a huge hit down the road if I decide to sell for something else.
I don't expect for it to appreciate or even necessarily break even but I don't want the value to go in half .

If the machine has over 1000 plays and is over 1 year plus I would not worry about it.

#5032 5 years ago
Quoted from Utesichiban:

So is the concensus or in some cases is it small and doesn't worsen?

Small little ghosting imperfections will not grow on a seasoned game (over 1000 plays).

If it were new, then I would state different.

Quoted from PinMonk:

If you use the Shapeways angled brackets you don't need airball protectors at the targets at all.

I have found if you raise the rubber on the flippers very near the top - say within 1-2 millimeters this significantly cuts down air balls on all games!

#5138 5 years ago
Quoted from Psw757:

Yep - the Gozer flier I’ve seen but the other day I had one rocket straight back at me hit the glass and landed behind the flippers.
Craziest airball I’ve seen on any machine ever!
I agree the protectors aren’t great looking but I can’t stand the fliers, bad for play and not good for the machine.

Agree.

Cheap protection.

#5313 5 years ago
Quoted from PinMonk:

If you put the plastic set over the slings/outlanes, you have zero outlane jumps. Well worth the effort.
The replacement brackets are thicker than the originals and have held up very well on a route where the premium gets a lot of play, so you should be very happy with them.

Why not bump the outlines higher from the underside of the playfield - then you can have no protectors.

#5315 5 years ago
Quoted from PinMonk:

That reduces the jumps, but does not eliminate them on a well-waxed playfield. Plastic over the top eliminates them 100%.

Like the air balls on the 2x and 3x shots! Airball protectors eliminates them 100%

LOL

#5317 5 years ago
Quoted from PinMonk:

Do I really need to explain to you that a lane hop to OUT/ball OVER is much more critical than the occasional airball with the angled brackets? So yeah, angled brackets for the 2/3x area are the best solution there, and plastic over the lane guides are the best solution for that area.

Do I really need to explain to you that to protect your playfield 100% from being beat up on long 2x/3x shots that plastic airball protectors are better! One might even argue this protectors keep the ball in play 100% of the time vs angles brackets.

If your point is that angles brackets get you 90% of no air balls on 2x/3x and get rid of ugly plastic protectors then the same applies for the outlanes. Raise the outlanes up to get rid of 95% or more lane hops while getting rid of the ugly plastics!

George Gomez confirmed GB code is delayed but that they are committed to it. Suspect it’s a next year update.

He did speak about this at Expo, video posted in Deadpool forum. Last part of video he talks about several code updates.

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/deadpool-owners-club-free-chimichangas-for-all/page/19#post-4652771

He talks a bit about GB delayed until next year - maybe summer!

#5440 5 years ago
Quoted from PanzerFreak:

The good news is that we know an update is coming and have Gomez on record saying what is missing from the game. Those items need to be added. There's no excuse for it if they don't. If Stern doesn't properly complete the games code then for me Ghostbusters is the last new game I'll ever buy from them. Such an iconic theme and loaded pin deserves to have its code finished.

Quoted from speederice:

Joining the club shortly (just waiting on it to ship). Is there an index or key post of must-have mods that I should seek out first? I know ColorDMD is on the list now....

For Premium/LE (most apply to Pro):

Install cliffy's

Adjust height of drop targets

Adjust spring on drop targets (20-25 coils up)

Check & change balls

SLIMER butt nut - check slimer positions and butt nut

Put a washer under right ball guide (blue rubber bumper) to help playfield damage

Put mylar down - where the ball lands when shot out - shooter lane. Or install Cliffy's

Get the green spring for the manual shooter rod, and the high compression spring for the auto-launcher

Align flippers

Install the plastic air ball protector and right orbit protector (CPR9999 makes the best!)

Adjust the coil power in the service menu ADJ > G.B. > Feature Adjustment #11 - Trough Eject Power. Mine is set the lowest power 176

Check 14th street subway switch to make sure ball is changing switch state

Ball guide rod 1/4" higher - hit with hammer (behind each sling shot area - this prevents ball jumping in the drain areas)

Hex spacer 1 5/8" (or 1 3/4") - change this on the right plastic 1/2 circle ramp (this shorter hex makes it easier for ball to go up).

Ok. I see Metallica got a code update.

I didn’t know they were on the list of machines to get an update.

Metallica got v1.8 update!!! And a good update - lots changes.

Where is GB update?

#5539 5 years ago
Quoted from PinballManiac40:

Well, Lyman was the lead on Metallica so I do not see the relationship with GB.
Dwight is the lead on SW, GB and now the Munsters.

Now you are making me think twice about Munsters with Dwight on code. It might be years before it gets updates.

Also, agree with others. They hired more coders for a reason. Hopefully some of these people can finish code.

Quoted from callaway15:

Just ordered a NIB GB Premium. I think I'm going to get a mod I saw with the flipper airball plastic and overhanging center post (if you want it on there). Are there other mods that might be recommended? I did opt for a shaker, too.

For those interested, making another run of Airball protectors. Check out Ad and videos.

Quoted from Supersquid:

So, after being inspired by vireland great products for IMDN and Metallica, thought I would order up some gels from Amazon and give it a try on Ghostbusters since there is nothing out there. I color coded the "Ghosts Caught" light tree in the middle. Due to the insert being frosted, the colors are not as vibrant as the picture shows, but still better than the white I think. The PKE is yellow, picture just doesn't show it very well. Chose a light purple for Mass Hysteria since there is no real color to go with it, and it looked good. Was thinking of trying the mode inserts, but my brain just couldn't figure out what colors to use. Go with a certain color scale per mode tree? I'll have to have another Stout and figure it out
[quoted image]

How does mod install from underneath playfield? Can you take some pictures?

Quoted from camcamaro1991:

CPR9999,
I can't attach pics in the PM, this is the later production Sterns metal out rails. As you can see the front is not a stud, we have a short screw infact I had to remove my GB plastic just to make it fit since I didn't have a matching screw with more length.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Looks great.

If you want the original plastic installed too just use a longer screw.

Note this is an issue with Mezel Stay Puft mod motor added. Basically the screw has to hold Stay Puft motor, plastic protector and original plastic.

10 cent screw, but not necessary if you don’t want original plastic installed.

#5851 5 years ago
Quoted from camcamaro1991:

Yeah sorry I mentioned it back then when I first ordered, about mezel mods & the new rails,
however a longer screw is only 50% of the issue, the rear stud is not long enough, unless you remove the factory plastic.

Yup. Take a peak at my sales ad again, both of these are required if you have the Mezel mod motor. Thick plastics! I have instructions posted.

I had the longer bolt information there, and now just added information based on longer screw required based on new metal rails (per your pictures). . Thx

Quoted from UrethraFranklin:

It's not bad, my friend printed it for me, and I just paypaled him $60 for the time to print it. It probably cost $10 to print but on a larger print you have to babysit it. I laser cut 4x .25" wood and clamped them together, the wood sheet was $8? at Home Depot. So all in all It cost about $75 to print. So not bad. The main cost was just to have my friend monitor the print, which is just a pain.
I am selling my Guardians of the Galaxy so I can get the same printer, it prints ABS and has a print field of 9"x9"x20" so I can print big. After that I'm gonna have some fun.
I normally hate filament printers because people never clean them up, never sand or paint them properly. This printer is such high resolution printer for ABS that all you need to do is use filler primer.
Lasering the no sign took about 5 minutes as opposed to having it 3d printer and probably taking 24 hours because its so big.

What is the printer model number?

Thx

#6409 4 years ago
Quoted from UrethraFranklin:

polyprint
http://www.polyprinter.com/polyprinter-229/
I have seen a LOT of printers out there. PLA printers can range from $200-$1200 or more, but the results are usually the same. The resolution on these printers is AMAZING and it's ABS so it's a little stronger.
The basic one is 9x9x9 which is big enough for most people. My friend and I are gonna print full suits and other crazy stuff so we're getting the 9x9x20.
Here is one of my designs we're gonna go full size on, I'm making a female Rocketeer type of character.[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

I have heard of MakerBot, Multimaker etc.

Not trying to be a Negative Nancy Panzer but i wouldn't count on anything major at all because i just don't see it happening. The good news though is i played GB last night and it is still great fun even with the current code.

Agree Dwight has some time to add a few things.

Bad news .... probably means fewer updates for Munsters

#6435 4 years ago
Quoted from Who-Dey:

I don't wanna bet but i sure hope that you are right! Ghostbusters could easily be amazing with just a few tweaks. Its already amazing truthfully but it just needs a couple of things changed and polished up to make it one of the all time greats.
I think with a really nice code uodate that there would be a lot of people rushing out to buy this title again. I truly believe that.

Buy “used versions” - I think this is out of production?

Quoted from lpeters82:

The update is certainly an improvement, but I don't think it's going to vastly change peoples opinions on the game.

Short term bump for sure, long term little change in people’s opinion. Still good for GB owners.

So did I hear right, Dwight came up with the design changes/additions- but Tanio had to do a major coding re-write of Dwight’s original code to make these updates.

Makes me start to align with all these guys that said stay away from Dwight machines.
Unfortunately I have a beautiful Munsters probably waiting on a 3 year rewrite! (Sold my GBLE couple months ago).

Of course there are always options

Sold a ton of these to reduce all those airballs.

Nice option here is it gives you a “shelf” or place to mount mods - say like a Ecto car, etc.

Looks like someone put a different spring and attached it wrong. I will tell you i have tried 3 different spings and continue to have issues with the left target staying up. I was at a loss and just learned to live with it.

Looks like standard spring to me connected in 2 places at the top.

You can move the original top of spring back to original connection point (not the screw). Then from there you can move it up a few coils... making it tighter and test while keeping it hooked on same original point.

Here is a list of things to do to dial on your machine (note GB is a machine that requires a lot of dialing in; however once achieved it plays smoothly).

Put mylar down in shooter lane Or install Cliffy's

For those interested, in Airball protectors.

Quoted from Ripshill:

Hi all,
Got the following update on the Walking Stay Puff Mod from Mezel Mods:
We are waiting on the manufacturer to produce another batch of the boards so that this product can be sold. Until such a time as that happens, we are in a holding pattern, unfortunately. The manufacturer has a serious family health issue which is delaying manufacturing.
Mezel mods said they would alert as to when the part once again becomes available.

I think Tim was making these.
Looks like his website is down???

Quoted from FlippinJB:

Right. Installed a new Node Board. If you have to do this, watch out!
1. The standoffs on the new board were shorter than the original ones. As you can see in the photos, the new standoffs would have caused the screws to gouge through the other side of the playfield. I would have been a sad panda.
2. The new Node Boards are a slightly different size to the original ones (see photo), so you'll end up making new holes. Very, very carefully.
I'm just glad I checked. The new board did not come with smaller screws.
I hope this helps someone in the future avoid something awful. On the plus side, I switched it on, it updated the node board, and it seems to be running ok. I'm letting the whole game fully discharge all caps before carefully screwing the other screws in.
Phew![quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Let Stern know ASAP as this will affect multiple games. Quick email.
Thx !!

I was having the same problem with the librarian scoop that a few people mentioned here. Switch only registering intermittently. I tried bending the switch a few times but couldn't solve the problem. On closer inspection, I noticed one of these little black screws holding the switch in place is gone. Any idea what the model # of these screws are and where I could order one? Thanks for any help! G

Quoted from hd60609:

Sick, just sick. I purchased the clear shooter lane protection and laid it in to test fit it, but didn't secure it. I was working on the game and had it up on the service rails and I heard a "pop". No more slings... Everything else worked perfect, all other coils, lighting, witches and both flippers. Then saw that the shooter lane protection raised up and seemingly jammed the auto fire. Suspecting this may have caused the problem.
Entered the Service Menu... No Technician service reminders. No node board errors. And the slings fire when cycling the coils. But slings still didn't fire when normal gameplay started. Decided to run a Factory "Reset". Still no slings, but now the right flipper locks "on" so I turn the game off immediately and the flipper falls.
I manually inspected the Node boards for any obvious burnt components... none. Any advice or ideas before I email Stern in the morning? Thanks.

When you say jammed the “auto fire” - where and what is this?

Quoted from marioparty34:

Having played a few games with it installed, I find myself wanting the ball to go to the outlanes so I can use the proton guns.
But sometimes in the heat of the game, I forget I have it and the ball just drains like normal. So it does take some time to get use to having the function. But the great thing about it is...you don't have to use it. It's not an "always on cheat". You can decide if you want to use it or not during gameplay which to my understanding is one of a kind. As most "cheat" mods such as lane extenders, center posts, etc (once installed) are always there during gameplay.
And I think that originally there was suppose to be something of this nature in the game but got pulled before production. So in my mind, this completes the game.

Curious once you press the pedal does it activate for so many seconds? Or can you hold the pedal down for the entire game play?

#10116 2 years ago
Quoted from swinks:

Currently it stays activated for as long as the pedal is pressed but there is a option to bridge 2 tabs on the servo boards to activate momentary at this stage.

Cool - momentary seems the way to go.

Quoted from cottonm4:

Speak of the devil.
Ramp air ball shuts me down.
[quoted image]
[quoted image]
I had one of those cheap turkey roasting pans with the plastic lid laying around. That cheap plastic is easy to bend.
[quoted image]
[quoted image]
[quoted image]
It just sort of slips/clamps to the sides of the ramp. It is not elegant but it will stay put and shut that ramp air ball action down. It hides well.
[quoted image]

That’s why the airball protector goes across the front of the left ramp. Stops airballs from left and right standup targets (red arrows) AND keeps ball below plastic in front of the ramp so it does go over the ramp (yellow arrow).

Works like a champ and heck you can place mods on it like others have.

No need to cover your ramp.

Quoted from eyeamred2u:

I will be selling my Mezel Mods Firehouse since I have upgraded. It is brand new used, only 2 months old. If you don't have Cliffy's protector's all the way around, invest in all of them. Airball deflectors are a must, Center rebound is a must, unless you like a tough playing game. One of my personal favorites are PinMonks Light Filter brackets. Lighted scoop from mezel is cool. I added slime around the subway ramp, a cool Welcome to NewYork Slime sign. Ecto1 with flashing lights. Lighted flippers. Lots of things can be added to this awesome game. The pics are of my game.

New to the club, such a gorgeous game in home environment! A previous owner had upgraded my plunger and I notice that a full plunge does all sorts of wild things to the ball, usually a ricochet at the top right corner, sometimes even flinging it up onto the ramp. Anyone else have that issue? Should I search for a weaker spring or is there something else I should investigate
