Quoted from kidchrisso:

Wait till a ball takes it out...your gonna be doing some repair on that often. I hot glued the snot out of mine to make it not get wrecked, all over the outside of it. It made it look like Slimer left his juices all over them...

I've had my Premium for 18 months and added a book stacking mod when I first bought it. I also have the air all protector mods installed and have never had a problem with the ball hitting it.

Quoted from PinMonk:

You have a playfield from the original run, then. If you can live with the spelling error and there are no other issues, there's not much you can do about it now, which I'm sure is why Stern pulled this.

This kind of stuff is the reason it is hard to trust a company like Stern and buy NIB.

Quoted from Rager170:

I love that feature, but man, they really need a volume control for it. I had to turn it off also because its just too loud.

I love it. No need to turn it off unless your play time typically occurs until after everyone has gone to bed.

My play time is almost always when the family is asleep. Wife, almost a 4 year old and a 7 month old leaves me with only later hours to play.

I finally converted to carrot flippers yesterday and played a couple of games. Wow, what a positive difference it makes. I can’t yet attest to fewer center drains, but certainly can to the smooth feel of the shots.

Can you elaborate on "Carrot Flippers"? Show a picture or something. I too wish to shorten the gap between the two.

Thanks

#8158 3 years ago

I believe that they are 1/8th inch longer than normal flippers. Mine are white.

I loosened the flippers then raised the tips by a few degrees and tightened them again, made the gap a few mm smaller and i can still cradle and make all the shots and definately improved my scores with less drains. Anyone else done this?

I'll be joining the club soon and excited to be snagging a nice GB Premium later this coming week via a trade. It's already coming with a colorDMD, PDI glass, the left ramp airball plastic, and the plastics for above the outlanes to help prevent ball jump drains over the lanes. I've been doing a bunch of research on other popular mods and had a few questions for the group and would appreciate some opinions:

1) Which is the best mirror mod so you can better see the PKE lanes? I've noticed they laserriific and mezelmods both make one.

2) Can anyone share a pic of the Walter Peck containment mod installed?

3) Has anyone bought one of those ecto 1 Playmobil toys or something like it to make a topper? Would love pics and recommendations on which one to buy

4) Any other must have mods?

5) Thoughts on the custom audio?

Thanks!

per3per3 Not sure what the quality is like from other vendors, or if they all come from Stern, but the mirror mod I got from Marco fell apart in 2 weeks, the glue on the screw tabs just came unstuck. I will have to re-glue it myself sometime, but have gotten used to no mirror (maybe the angle is better for me at my specific height). It's a real pain to access that area for mounting, so I'm in no hurry.

The very best and most important mods are the anti-airball tilted stand up target mounting brackets and the clear protector cover for the ecto goggles screen. I learned my lesson on the latter after an expensive screen replacement.

I set my containment unit back where the original unit was. I still need to get the terror dog, was thinking about getting the play mobile one, though I saw a good one a Pinside makes on here that is nice and not too expensive as well. The ecto-1 I went with is a Johnny Lightening, no lights but I’m good with that. Saving up for the Ghostbusters fire station mod.

I recommend this over any of the mirror mods, imo it's a light-years better solution:

Never seen that one before, thats a good one!

Personally Ive never had an issue seeing them as stock, but that is the mod I would certainly get if I had an issue.

freddy and others, really appreciate the recommendations and pics! For those of you that installed the Walter Peck containment mod, how did you mount and light it?

Olaa - Which ecto 1 is that? I'm trying to find a reasonably priced one that is the right size for a topper.

Do most folks run the custom audio code package from @mudflap?

Thanks!

I have the mudflap package and highly recommend it. Only thing I wish was different was library cue... too slow.

Not a big fan of Bobby Brown and the stock sound is pretty killer so I just stuck with the original.

#8174 3 years ago

I have the mudflaps version because Bobby Brown!

I second the install of the modified stand up target brackets. Completely solves airballs.

I posted this in another thread , but thought I could put it here as well . I added frosted clear drops to the Scoleri bro’s . I used a black paint pen to color in the small tab that triggers the opto ( don’t know if it’s necessary but did it as a precaution ) . Then I added leds to make them pop during gameplay . I tried purple , but I liked the white a little better . I Still want to play around with leds and colors, but really happy with the result . I added connectors to the wiring to make it easy to remove with the mech. I also made sure it can be removed to be back to stock with out any damage to the game . If anyone wants to do this let me know . I could even possibly put together some sort of kit , but would need to find a source of scoleri bro’s target decals . Anyway on with the pics .

Great idea, I have a few questions. Which lamp base is that? Did you just shrink tube the end? What for, does it come in contact with anything on the board? Are the Scolari target decals thick enough to freeze spray off successfully? How is the durability on those new drops? They are pretty close to the flippers and take a pretty good pounding.

1: Is just a basic 555 wedge socket with bracket . You can get them through a lot of parts distributors .
2: I shrink wrap just Incase and also I like the clean look .
3: the scoleri target decals are factory . They were in my goodie bag .
4: according to previous write ups and other people testing these drops , they seem to take a pretty good beating . I ordered 1 extra as a replacement just in case , but so far they seem to take the hit. I also think they flex a little better because I’m not seeing the brick shots like I was .

Did you wire the bulb to GI?

#8182 3 years ago

No I have it wired to the scoleri inserts , so they come on when they pop up and shut off when hit . It really adds to the gameplay . Make them way more noticeable .

Question for those here that have mods installed with alligator clips, etc on GB. I bought a small Ecto car mod (hot wheels car) a few weeks back that has flashing blue lights. It has alligator clips which are supposed to attach to any GI socket under the playfield so the led flashers are always on. I’ve talked with the guy that made the mod several times but for some reason, the lights aren’t coming on. I’ve tried rearranging the clips and have tried it on what I assume are the right GI sockets in two different locations.

I thought it was a wiring issue but it works when I tried attaching to a GI socket on both my Fishtales and Ironman. I’ve attached a few pictures of the car and sockets I’ve tried attaching it to in my GB. Any ideas what the issue may be? Is GB different somehow? It has to be something I’m missing or screwed up but any insight is appreciated.

Thanks. Pretty sure I am. Pulled the black cover off the one side to get to the metal. Does the other side on GB have a clear cover over it my aging eyes aren't seeng?

#8187 3 years ago

Did you try switching the wires ie. Red to the red wires and black to the yellow. Shouldn't make a difference but my Metallica or walking dead acted like this with a led strip

My arse, does it. Goodbye, Node Board 9. Goodbye 260 quid.

I did. I'll mess with again this morning but am totally baffled. I've tried it on multiple GI socket clips on the GB and still doesn't work. Works just fine on FT & Ironman, though.

Does an alligator clip mod need a different type of connection to work on a Spike game like GB? Frustrated as to what I'm doing wrong or what the issue could be.

Does an alligator clip mod need a different type of connection to work on a Spike game like GB? Frustrated as to what I'm doing wrong or what the issue could be.

I had this issue on my Metallica premium a while back. Tried to install a mod ( can't remember what it was) and found that the LEDs would not light no matter what I did. Never figured it out. I had asked at the time if the LEDs are rated differently, or powered differently and never got an explanation.

Has anyone installed the custom audio from either delts or mudflaps? I have a premium and curious to hear people's thoughts? What are the differences?

Right. Installed a new Node Board. If you have to do this, watch out!

1. The standoffs on the new board were shorter than the original ones. As you can see in the photos, the new standoffs would have caused the screws to gouge through the other side of the playfield. I would have been a sad panda.

2. The new Node Boards are a slightly different size to the original ones (see photo), so you'll end up making new holes. Very, very carefully.

I'm just glad I checked. The new board did not come with smaller screws.

I hope this helps someone in the future avoid something awful. On the plus side, I switched it on, it updated the node board, and it seems to be running ok. I'm letting the whole game fully discharge all caps before carefully screwing the other screws in.

Phew!

Interesting.. I do not believe my boards have those longer standoffs. I replaced one of the node boards without issue.

I have a pro and use the one from mudflaps. I like it as it has music from the movies for the modes. Can't remember all the changes, but their threads on it will give you all the details. I wouldn't go back to stock now.

Quoted from Utesichiban:

Question for those here that have mods installed with alligator clips, etc on GB. I bought a small Ecto car mod (hot wheels car) a few weeks back that has flashing blue lights. It has alligator clips which are supposed to attach to any GI socket under the playfield so the led flashers are always on. I’ve talked with the guy that made the mod several times but for some reason,[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

That’s def strange, I have a little ecto1 like it that came with alligators and I attached it to the red circle PF insert that’s under the spinner so the car lights up/flashes with the spinner. It’s been a while but I remember having to use an exacto knife to cut back the shrink wrap on many stern lights to be able to get a solid connection when soldering and even when using some alligators.

Seeking some help from all you excellent people. Something is up with my auto-plunger. The power is weak and will not make it up the ramp most of the time. About 20% of the time it launches fine. If it has to launch repeatedly during multi-ball, it will never have enough power and all balls collect in the lane.

I’ve tried/investigated:
Coil stop- not mushroomed. Also Hard to replace as it’s tied to the entire mech bracket.
Coil - replaced. No change.
Switch to trigger ball launch looks acts fine.
Mech moves freely. Nothing is binding. Tried a different spring but no change.
Tried multiple adjustments of ball contact points on the auto plunger with no change.

Thoughts or recommendations?

Picked up this Subway sign and turned it into a illuminated sign on my GBpro. Tied into the SF lock insert. Working on getting the lighting better as the LED I used was all I had.

I think you tried it all.
Did you replace the coil sleeve?
