Question - I noticed on my GBLE that the Public Library has a black post installed on the right side when looking at the front. Also, there is a hole drilled in back to put the nut on the bolt that holds the black post.

What was - is this post supposed to be used for - odd to be there by itself.

thx.

One more question - what voltage are the little flasher boards (520-6785-00): are these 12 VDC? 12 VAC?

Also, what is the little GI boards (520-5307-00): are these 5 VDC or 5 VAC?

thx!

Quoted from Trekkie1978:

I made a new airball protector today. I played a few games on it tonight and it worked perfectly. I have a second one that I made. I'll scan it in if anyone wants to make their own.

Quoted from Aquapin:

Here is the final revision of my right orbit plastic. Tested with 50 auto launches, had only one failure (bounce off the plastic). Worked fine in 10 games, all right orbits registered fine. Great improvement over not having anything at all.
Bend is at the 15mm mark.

Based on these pinsiders' designs I made a set for myself and a few more extras.
For $20 you will get 1 airball protector and 1 right orbit plastic = 1 set.

If anyone is interested PM me as I want to get rid of the extra's. (note plastic film is on the clear plastic to protect it - peel off when you receive).

thx

I was wondering how you can tell you have a good cabinet (no risk for it to split) when you want to buy a huo ghostbuster.
From what build date was this covered at Stern or what did they change?
I now star wars (le?) has a corner bracket and the stronger leg plates), but how about this title?

Can you post a picture of SW bracket?

#3523 6 years ago

Few protectors left. Ramp and right orbit.

Anyone know of a thread or post that highlights what a new owner should do for an LE? Tweaks and needed mods(needed being key word)? And yes I will go through the 72 page thread here but there is a lot of fluff and pissed off people getting an LE and would rather learn from others than figure out through frustration. Advice is welcome too. Figured by now someone had to put a list together and trying to find. Everyone says this is a great game once you get it dialed in. I just don’t know what that means.

Install cliffy's

Adjust height of drop targets
Adjust spring on drop targets (20-25 coils up)

Check & change balls

SLIMER butt nut - check slimer positions and butt nut

Put a washer under right ball guide (blue rubber bumper) to help playfield damage

Put mylarr down - where the ball lands when shot out. Or install Cliffy's

Get the green spring for the manual shooter rod, and the high compression spring for the auto-launcher

Align flippers

Install the plastic air ball protector and right orbit protector (GET THE ONE I MAKE

Adjust the coil power in the service menu ADJ > G.B. > Feature Adjustment #11 - Trough Eject Power. Mine is set the lowest power 176

Check 14th street subway switch to make sure ball is changing swithc state

Ball guide rod 1/4" higher - hit with hammer (behind each sling shot area - this prevents ball jumping in the drain areas)

Hex spacer 1 5/8" (or 1 3/4") - change this on the right plastic 1/2 circle ramp (this shorter hex makes it easier for ball to go up).

That is the real question- minimize or eliminate?

Quoted from gweempose:

On some games, it fires the ball too hard and it gets hung up on the gate behind Stay Puft. There are a couple ways to address this. You can change out the auto-plunger spring to a higher tension one. This will reduce the velocity of the ball. Another option is to install a piece of plastic that helps to guide the ball downward after it leaves the shooter lane. There is a Pinsider that custom makes these, but I can't remember who it is.

Right orbit protector.

Quoted from PinMonk:

If you use the modified target brackets, you don't need the left ramp airball protector. The inlane/outlane ball jump protectors, however, are absolutely necessary. I played one without them recently and it SUCKED.

Question - looking back over the threads - I thought you could "tap up" the wire ball guides from underneath to prevent this so no plastics are needed? This was on earlier threads.

Thoughts?

#3966 5 years ago

Need guidance- I read on pinside somewhere that on the left VUK people are putting a piece of something in there so the ball kicks out reliably to the right flipper.

So what material, where is it placed and can someone post a picture.

Thanks in advance!!

#3975 5 years ago

I have adjusted the springs on the drop targets understanding that a stronger spring gets the drop target out of the way quicker and causes less airballs.
Well I have tried both (a) stronger springs (from PinballLife) and (b) reinstalling original springs and shortening them up to 20-25 revolutions.

Neither have worked. When the left target is up and I hit it dead on with the right flipper- always get an airball directly back at me ...then the airball hits the wire guide ramp (the one that crosses the playfield) and drops back onto the playfield.

Any other ideas? Anyone put washers underneath the 2 of the 4 screws holding the Drop target to give it a pitch? Does this work?

Thx

#3977 5 years ago
Quoted from PinMonk:

Set coil strength to soft?

Ok I will try. Is this an individual setting for the drop targets or total game setting?

Depends on plastic thickness along with the design you have does not connect to both Posts on the right.

Washer under plastic works for my design.

I have sold a ton of my version for sometime where I have people put washer on each post first, then plastic, then nut.

See my AD:

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/sale-ghostbusters-airball-air-ball-right-orbit-protectors#post-4477509

#3993 5 years ago

FYI that is not my protector; however, I think I see your problem.

If you loosen the nuts does the plastic still bend? If not retighten.

If it still flexes than you need to drill one of the holes out on one side of the plastic. (Elongated the hole). The plastic holes are not aligned to your posts.

FYI, I believe you still need to install the washer first, plastic second and nut last to give you extra height.

#3995 5 years ago
Quoted from PinMonk:

Get the angled target brackets and remove the protector. Problem solved, and it will look better, too.

Agree on look, but they don’t stop all airballs.

#3998 5 years ago
Quoted from Alby:

They did for me.

See vireland review:

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/ghostbuster-issue-thread/page/79#post-4336354

Also helps keep ball down when going up ramp.

Both options have plus & minus.

#3999 5 years ago
Quoted from PinMonk:

90%, at least, of the airballs off those two targets on the machine I installed it on. Easy recommendation to make. Better than all other solutions out there currently.

Don’t forget the plastic protector helps keep ball down on the ramp

When I said "mech" on my above post, I am talking about the metal protector that is on that left scoop. This seems to be the issue. Looks like it is popping up a little. Any tips on removing this metal protector so that I can bend it a little to make it flat again?

Cheap Stern protector?
Install Cliffys.

#4024 5 years ago
Quoted from swinks:

can you post a picture of the scoop area?

FYI I believe he needs “real cliffys” instead of the thin cheap Stern ones, I had same issue. Cliffys product is thicker.

I have a question on ghostbuster. My machine when you shoot ball off it comes around top loop to the flippers but it seem to get hung up. Ive looked at gates at the top they dont see to be issue. Any ideas thanks.

Where does it hang up?
Mid don’t know put your camera phone on slo motion recording to find the trouble area- then fix.

Just received my NIB Ghostbusters and enjoying it thoroughly.
Im having a problem where the balls keep getting stuck in any of the pke 3 rollover lanes. The ball gets stuck right after the sensor at the bottom part. It happens fairly often (30% of games) and I have to shake it to set it free. Does anyone have suggestions on how to resolve?

Pitch of machine?

#4204 5 years ago
Quoted from rwh143:

Its 6 degrees - Ill post a picture when I get home.

Do 6.5 degree pitch first.

Then if no go look at rubbers.

#4210 5 years ago
Quoted from 3pinballs:

Installed my own right Orbit protector to help prevent balls from hitting that bracket, which only happens on the auto launch and not the flipper shot to the right orbit. I shot a video of this, but video too large. This did not work for the auto launch as the ball hits the front piece of the plastic, broke also should have used something stronger, but it does not fix the nor prevent ball from hitting the ball gate as it hits the plastic protector
[quoted image]

If you look at the one I sell which works the front edge is beveled to direct and keep the ball down.

Also I make all my protectors out of thicker PET-G (not acrylic). Acrylic eventually break - PET-G is nearly impossible to break).

If you need some strong protectors made from pet-g instead of acrylic (that typically break) - let me know!

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/sale-ghostbusters-airball-air-ball-right-orbit-protectors-2

And they cut out 100% of airballs!

Plus you can mount toys - figures on them like the Ecto car. And no need to lift your playfield and mess with brackets.

This is a better solution
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Sold 100’s of mine and it takes care of airballs. Mine also works with Mezel mod Stay Puft motorized mod.

No doubt yours covers the whole area - wow - what we call overkill.

#4281 4 years ago
Quoted from swinks:

Yes that is normally as the big air balls are due to stern target design change where my approach returned the targets to a 90’s Bally Williams type lifting up and adding angle. Unfortunately the pan angle of the target still contributes to a few smaller air ball’s if you glance the side with some power / speed.

Just a follow-up folks - stop all airballs!

83D1A2B8-9C81-46DB-8980-366210302BC3 (resized).jpeg83D1A2B8-9C81-46DB-8980-366210302BC3 (resized).jpeg
#4289 4 years ago
Quoted from swinks:

so you just wanted to share publicly that yours are better than mine, I am happy for you but a bit of poor form, and wonder if Brandon approved the comments to go up on pinside.
Just so others know the airballs come from the design of the targets and the cpr9999 option is an airball "retainer" as it is just keeping the airballs down and these should be made out of PETG instead of acrylic so they don't crack, as airballs will just now impact the retainer and the retainer will crack in time. Not very clear if these are acrylic or PETG and no mention of “these will not crack”
sorry brandonx76 that the brackets did not work to your expectation, I highly doubt the stainless wall / guide will break and crack over time, though putting a retainer on will still let the ball hit the side just a little higher.

Not stating either solution is better.

Both have plus / minus the way I see.

1. One solution requires installing protector - some think ugly looking, some think good, some mount a mod on it. But it does stop all airballs.

2. Another solution modified targets which Stern should have done in the first place. Looks cleaner solution, but does not stop 100% of airballs.

Really it is a personal preference on what your goal is.

I just wanted people to get the full story, not part of the picture- not intended to day one solution is better. Let people here the whole story and make up their mind on best solution.

FYI, my airballs are made of Pet-G, not acrylic. They will be the last one you install! (Years ago I used acrylic- they break over time).
