So I bought metal hex spacers from pinball life to fix right ramp and I got both 1-5/8 and 1-3/4. Both look bigger than I thought. Did I get the wrong size?

Those should both be shorter than the one that came on the game. Are they not?

Not really sure but that's prob b/c I still don't understand where the original one is! I'll need to look at it again. Thanks for confirming I got the right ones.

Yes by 1/2 inch or more.

I assume you have a premium? Its the ramp on the right side of the PF. It has a plastic U turn ramp connected to a metal wire ramp that puts the ball behind the left slingshot. The standoff is located right underneath the switch where the plastic and meets the metal wire ramp.

I am not home so I cant post a pic. Chuck posted a pic earlier in the thread.

I do and chuck is great - he did post something so I need to triple check. thanks

I used 1 5/8" in my game, works perfectly.

#2957 7 years ago

OK - so I now know where he's talking about. Thanks. Will change now.

EDIT - went with the 1-5/8 and WOW what a difference. Crazy this wasn't stock as that shot feels much better. thanks guys!

1-5/8 or 1-3/4. I did the former and it feels great. buy both and decide.

Mylar removed,pf cleaned with goo gone and is bone dry. Didn't get a chance to play a game yet (did this on my lunch break) can't wait to test it when I get home!!
Is it a good idea to just cut the metal hex to 1 3/4? I don't wanna wait and thatbranp is so sow hard to make it up over the rivets at the top. Cut (carefully) or not to cut??

#2962 7 years ago
Quoted from gweempose:

Okay, I just played five long games for the express purpose of testing out just how effective removing the mylar was. I even temporarily disabled the Scoleri Brothers so I could more easily focus on the shot. Holy crap!!! I don't think there was single time in all five games that the right orbit didn't register. Even super hard combos on the fly coming from the left orbit triggered the switch 100% of the time. To be honest, I'm a little shocked by how much of a difference removing a simple piece of mylar made. I can now say unequivocally that this mod makes the game play way better and should be performed by every person who owns the game.

Quoted from Who-Dey:

It's hard to believe that this actually fixes the problem but it does. I don't see how the Mylar could have possibly affected the switch from registering but it damn sure does.

Thank you for the responses.
I removed my mylar today and... HOLY CRAP I can't believe how much this fixed the problem! It's amazing to me that the thin little mylar edge was enough of a bump in the road to cause the ball to not depress the switch. Like you guys, I can confirm that removing the mylar completely fixed the issue. I played multiple games today and that right orbit shot registered EVERY single time.
Also, I was able to pull it up easily with my fingers. No tools needed. Cleaning up the glue residue was super easy too.

Thanks guys!

Here's a new issue for you guys (I think).
Lately I've noticed that many counter-clockwise orbit shots were draining RDTM. After close inspection I realized that the Stern left scoop edge protector was bent. The corner was sticking up and causing the ball to deflect off of it.

Now here is a comparison of the bent Stern one (left) next to Cliff's beefier one (on the right). And a pic of Cliff's installed. Hopefully his will last longer without bending.
Thanks Cliff!!

Can someone confirm for me either way that if you have the factory default light extra ball at 50 ghosts that it also lights at 100 ghosts?

Thanks.

Much better game now isn't it? Sinestro gets the credit on this one, he's the one that came up with the idea. Glad you got your game working good!

Getting used to the game, just got it. Left ramp tends to not register at times, too often. Any idea what can be done to improve?
Thanks

#2972 7 years ago

Yay! Right orbit now registering 100 percent of time so far after removing Mylar. Now to adjust the pke ramp and my game will be almost perfect

Check your switch on top of that ramp under the "14 Street" sign. Small metal tab that can be bent outwards. This is a common issue on new games. There is a stickied post with pictures too if you want to look at that. I had same issue and a slight bend solved it.

Yep. Easy fix. Just make sure you put some pressure on the arm with your thumb when you bend it so you aren't stressing it at the point where it attaches to the switch.

Ghostbusters Target Wedges

Finally got the parts back and did some final testing for a solution to the air balls off the X2 & X3 targets on the Ghostbusters pinball.

Basically the Stern targets are dead vertical and when hit bend back beyond the vertical which then allows the ball to go into the air. Bally / WMS targets leaned forward, so I devised a simple wedge that can be inserted into the existing Stern target assembly. This wedge now leans the target 4 degress forward from vertical and has been effective in stopping the massive airballs. I still get the random minor ball hop but has improved the design of the target and decreased the problem alot.

You will need 1 wedge per target. You will also have to source 1 x 1/8" longer bolt for the target assembly as there just isn't enough thread once the wedge is installed.

single and twin pack which will save you $2.15 in total
https://www.shapeways.com/search?q=swinkstarget&type=

you will need 1 wedge and one 1/8" longer bolt / screw per target

swinks - Any chance of a complete kit at all please?? Would be good to order a kit of all the parts up upgrade in one go.... (including the side targets also, since these also seem to launch the ball on Mine...)

#2979 7 years ago

Edit - Dupe (for some reason!)

#2980 7 years ago

These look great, and shapeways is a reasonable service, but really expensive to ship something that that fits in lettermail.

I wish there was some kind of encrypted one time use stl file that could be sent. The model of centralised printing and shipping instead of on demand at location printing is just wrong. Oh well, just venting, good job on the design.

#2981 7 years ago

so when the ball is shot hard from the shooter, is it not "supposed" to go the entire orbit but go into the poppers OR is the ball intended to go all the way across the back and into the left orbit? I ask b/c mine usually goes left orbit but on some balls it also does stop mid point and bounce into the poppers....

#2982 7 years ago

Sorry to switch topics, but I wanted to see if anyone might be able to shed some light on a couple of issues I have been having on my GB Premium.

Auto Launcher - from Day 1, out of the box, the auto launcher on my machine has had a couple of issues - mainly that it was firing the ball way too hard into the backboard as some other folks have experienced. I added a firmer spring to the coil which has resolved that issue, but now I have noticed that periodically, when the auto launcher is supposed to automatically shoot the ball (like after a ball save), it hesitates and doesn't launch it immediately. It also seems like the launcher bracket itself is getting stuck as it is rubbing on another piece of metal underneath. I thought that was contributing to the delayed auto launch, but even when that bracket isn't hung up, it is still hesitating on shooting the ball. Has anyone else experienced this? Any successful tweaks anyone has made?

Back Right Orbit Gate - lately, when the ball is launched, as soon as it hits that back right gate, it automatically registers the skill shot hit rather than a completed shot doing so. This seems like a sensitivity issue, but I wanted to see if anyone else has noticed this and if there is a successful adjustment for it?

Thanks in advance!

So is the mylar removal under the Stay Puft toy the fix for both Pro and Prem versions for the right orbit registration mis-fires? Most people commenting on the fix seem to be Prem owners while I'm a lowly Pro

As far as I know, that part of the playfield is exactly the same on both machines, so the fix should work equally well on a pro as it did on my premium.

This was happening to me ,
Check your shooter lane switch, especially if you have installed cliffys in there .
The switch may not high enough and registering. I loosened the switch mech , 1/8, nut driver, pushed it up with my finger, held in place and retightened .

Thanks! I will give that a look tonight. I haven't installed a Cliffy in the shooter lane so nothing is on top of the switch, but it's possible it needs some adjustment. Have you had any issues with that back right orbit gate being too sensitive and registering skill shot hits prematurely?

That's a passive one-way gate. There is no switch connected to it, so it definitely isn't the gate itself that is causing the skill shot to register. Can you see on the DMD which skill shot you are getting credit for? I'm guessing one of your switches somewhere is either stuck or is too sensitive. Put your game in switch test and see what switches are closed. If nothing seems out of the ordinary, try slapping the playfield to see if the vibration triggers any switches.

Thanks for the tips. In regards to the skill shot that is being triggered, it is usually the right orbit/"Who Brought the Dog" skill shot that is registering as it's one I typically select upon game start. I've also noticed it registering for Spook Central as well if I am on that mode so I will check the switch back there and see if anything seems out of the ordinary. I actually thought that the switch was tied into the gate. Just to confirm, I will select a different skill shot lane and see if it still triggers back there along the right orbit.

Perhaps the ball is ricocheting off the gate and grazing the right orbit switch?

Quoted from gweempose:

It's possible, but it does seem to be making the loop around to the left pretty cleanly upon shooting it so I didn't think there was any interference going on there. I'll have to take a closer look at how the ball is hitting the orbit when it's sent up there from the shooter lane. I'm just a little surprised at how sensitive that switch is since the machine doesn't have a ton of plays on it yet and hasn't been beaten up by any means.

The back right gate is completely mechanical and is does not register anything.
My back right was rattling the ball around pretty bad all the time even after modifying it , so I just flat out removed it all together.
Now I have not removed the mylar in the lane to see if that is the issue . But I may try it .

best I can offer is wait for a free shipping sale as happen a few times a year - become a member and then you will be notified. Not much I can do and since I am in Australia this has served well for the US guys to get parts at a reasonable postage rate for us it is $15USD regardless of size. can always bulk up the order

there is the single and then a twin pack option already...
the problem is finding the fine line of processing fee and then volume as they combine both, I can try to see if making a larger branch will be cost effective. How many do you need 4 or 6?

Yeah it seems like there may still be some of the ball rattling around that corner on my machine as well. The auto launch on my machine seemed ridiculously overpowered before I added the other spring to the coil and there is a chance that it may still not be shooting the ball back there smoothly. At the very least, the new spring prevents it from rocketing into the backboard now. I'll see if it's still nicking something else back there that could be setting off the orbit switch. Thanks again for the advice!

Nothing to take apart just reach down there pull the Mylar off then clean the residue off wax and play. Really makes a world of difference.

Super awesome. Mylar came off easy, cleanup easy and now plays a world better on my premium. Just sent a ton of super fast shots through there with no issue at all. THANKS! Can change which shots to go after now!

Everybody will have an opinion but a 3 pack for the main three targets would be my suggestion. Both sides of the ramp and the ghost target. I do not get much air off the side ones, but the upper 3 send it flying.

I'm pretty annoyed. After having my playfield replaced, my game simply plays worse. The right orbit used to be 100% reliable on my game before swapping the playfield out, now it commonly fails to make it around. It really disrupts things, and I'm quite bugged about it.

Since I never had the problem before, I've not looked into the fixes out there. What are people doing to improve the reliability of the right orbit shot? This is on a GBLE, by the way.

I've traded ghosting for a TERRIBLE left scoop (never had an issue there before), a bad right orbit, and a host of other issues I've been fixing. Frustrating.

Are you talking about the shot under the echo goggles or the far right circle ramp that goes back to the left flipper? What's wrong with the left scoop?

I think he's talking about the far right circle that goes back to left flipper. I also have this where the ball gets caught in that gate and drops down to the poppers. I think the intention is for the ball to always go around and back to left flipper but that doesn't happen all the time. That's not normal right? Any fix?

This advice really helped me out. My right ramp was wonky since day one, and I guess I wasn't bending the switch quite right. Now it works like a charm. Amazing what a couple of millimeters can do in pinball. Thanks!
