For anyone that was at Pintastic in 2022 or saw the restoration of the famous Ghettowind that was “restored” in our hotel room, it’s back!

It’s now getting the full treatment. New playfield, topper, plastics, cabinet restore, etc.

Here’s the original thread:

Are you using that special lube?

#3 6 months ago

Good luck!

Lol, that cabinet looks way better than my Whirlwind. (We can trade if you want a challenge)

Like a lot of machines, they weren’t perfect from the factory.

An old crusty rubber. And a dime I’ll owe Gerry.

The repair isn’t pretty and looks like it’s a snake that should be on Metallica, but it actually works well. New ramps will be installed.

I have the wiring about done other than the soldering to the mechs. Which aren’t torn apart yet.

Ibis’s rails will be to me soon. Been waiting to add the wait of the mechs until these came.

Top side has LED’s and some post sleeves.

Decals are done on our other project. 80spit is cruising along. His Ghettowind is next to knock the ghetto out of it. Wonder if ghettolube (patent pending) will be used for the sanding process.

I’ve never owned an ultrasonic before. Do you still have to tumble parts after putting them in the ultrasonic or is that all you do? I’m curious what you use and what the cost is for something like that.

#33 5 months ago

My large parts order showed today so was able to finish most of the pop bumpers on the top and targets.

Targets all got the anti-sway and reinforced brackets as they take a beating on this title.

Cabinet is nearing completion. Gerry has the backbox done.

Mechanisms are all installed. Still have to solder them and stand up targets along with pop lighting.

Top side is coming together.

It depends. If you tumble something that is zinc plated, it will take it off. If the ultrasonic gets things clean and shiny, than it's done. Screws just go right in the tumbler. If they don't come clean, I just use new screws.

I used a 30l Ultrasonic and two tumblers. A larger HF for the big stuff and smaller Cabela's for smaller stuff.

What are you using for an ultrasonic solution that keeps or makes the metal shiny?

Distilled water and using simple green.

Maybe distilled water is the key. I use Simple Green in my ultrasonic, but zinc plated parts get somewhat dark or blackened. I definitely need to try distilled water.

First time seeing this post and I was going to warn you about the very likely shit quality Mirco. But you already found out.
Before you get one ball on that table, install a set of Cliffys and use clear vinyl on ball drop areas. For the post pooling a lot of people are using silicon or other type spacers. Sorry you joined the "Mircos product sucks" club.

#41 4 months ago

I’m not a fan of Cliffy’s at ball drops. They tend to hang balls. It will get Mylar there at drops.

#42 4 months ago

I think I may have a bit of a ghettowind lol. I knew I was missing a couple of posts for the rear ramp. I know one of them I didn’t install because I couldn’t find the right mounting point to sit on the wood rail. The one with the 8/32 thread with 2 offset screw holes that goes to the left of the entrance on way up. Also looks like I’m missing the 3rd tall one that is near the entrance to the center ramp in the back! Wonder if I can get these and eventually add them when I swap the ramps out.

Replaced the diodes and tubing.

Doesn’t look like much but about 85% done with the bottom.

Added a trough LED strip and Cliffy.

Had to drill this hole in the plastic. Seems like it’s just missed on the plastic sets as I’ve had to do it on all of the swaps. I think this is Whirlwind #4 or 5.

Starting to populate the top.
