You forget, you are the "L" in Loser

Quoted from DanQverymuch:

It would be cool if instead of a fixed percentage, we could get a graph of our up/down ratio evolving over time, perhaps with really old ones tailing off from the calculation as years pass.

Why tail them off? We're you a real dbag back in the day? You want everyone to forget your checkered past? LOL

At least I actually leave the house from time to time.

Yes, thanks to the creativity of the people on Pinside you are able to override your ankle bracelet. Good for you.

Quoted from jgentry:

Are a bunch of people getting PM's from people that they down vote or am I just the lucky one? Never really had this happen until a couple of months ago but now it seems like 1 out of 3 sends me some angry PM demanding that I explain my down vote. Or even worse, an angry PM explaining to me their life situation and why they posted what they did.
It's just a down vote people, it only means I disagree with you. I do not want to hear your background story, I do not need to explain to you my opinion, and I am not required to post a response in the thread so that you can respond. Stop being so sensitive. I probably up vote 10 posts for every one I down vote.

Why are you giving so many down votes?

I don't that much. When I do it's because I really disagree or someone is just being an idiot.

I did use to point things out, like when someone said "we're" ("we are") where they meant "were." Thank goodness I never do that any more.

But mainly I thought it would show the evolution of others' degrees of dbagginess better than if it was strictly cumulative. One doesn't consider ancient data when evaluating a current trend.

Has anyone ever gotten an angry PM because you upvoted somebody? I have!

Yes, was told I an asshole for it. I don't need anyone to pm me that I am an asshole, this is already common knowledge.

One of the reasons I don't have an answering machine on my phone. I don't need to be reminded of something I already know.

Lloyd actually still uses a beeper. Here he is in his younger days when he was a wild, single guy.

You dang right!! Last thing I need is a cell phone on my hip or in my hand 24 hours a day. People drive me nuts with that crap, its like there world will end if they don't get a message or call at that moment....Ugh!! I've done without a cell phone for the last 49 years and I don't need to have one now, just more trouble then it's worth for me personally.

You got along without the internet for like 35 years, yet here we are.

Now wait a minute that's a totally different thing. I'm not plugged into it every two minutes like the people on there phones are. Only reason I got the computer in the first place was to find more pinball stuff back in 1997.....holy crap that's 20 years of typing.......LOL.

That's one of the reasons I yank the phone cord out of the wall before I go to bed at night. I don't need to be reminded of it and woken up at the same time.

Once I forgot to plug it back in for four days before my daughter called me at work wondering why she couldn't get a hold of me.

I have a cellphone in my car. Old flip phone. It's only there for emergencies. Not even set up to receive messages.
Have a land line in the house. 40's pay phone with a dial, inside of a 40's phone booth. No answering machine. I get along just fine.

#273 6 years ago

I still feel cell phones are just a passing trend. Who needs to be a slave to one of those?

And those people with those things sticking out of their ears look just plain silly.

There are actually alot of arguments that social media and smart phones are making humans more social, which is surprising to me. More people are connecting with each othes than ever before.

I always thought the opposite until I really though about it. The internet and smart phone have made us more social people. just look at this site. People from around the world all communicating and talking about their favorite hobbies and whatnot. How many times have you seen people say " hey of you come by NY shoot me a pm and we can hang out."

Now I don't have a Facebook because I don't need that drama, but I actually do believe that it's making us more social.

More connected maybe, but I would counter that it is actually hampering most peoples social skills. Face to face communication is becoming something that most young people are not overly comfortable with. They are connected to more people and more aware of the world or at least what ever propaganda they are reading but are more socially awkward then ever.

It's true. I argue with more people from more backgrounds and geographic locations than ever before - like a 20X factor than before all this smartphone business. Back in the day it was tough to carry on petty fights with more than 3 or 4 people at a time.

Yeah, who needs to talk to the person standing in front of them when they can get more likes by taking a selfie and posting it on facebook.

Results may vary - sadly, I get more likes when I aim the camera away from myself.
