Hey, everyone. Been a lurker for a long time, and finally have an account!

Anyway, my getaway is having some DMD issues. Turning the game on, the screen is distorted, yet it boots fine. There does seem to be some movement, but after around a minute the display shuts off entirely.

I’ve tried re-seating some of the ribbon cables to the dmd controller, and so far no change.

Thanks for your help, and happy holidays!

Do you have another dmd game you could swap in and verify?

it shows that he also has a Fish Tales, pretty sure he can swap them to see if its the dmd or not.

Well, that Fish Tales is located about 45 minutes away. I am diagnosing a getaway which is at a family member’s house, who does not have an account.

I could swap it, but it may take a while.

First thing I would do is check the ribbon cable. Make sure it is plugged in the right direction (pin 1 to the red stripe, check it at both ends).

This is what I have... not sure which one is pin 1.

How about a close up picture of the lower part of the DMD controller Board? Back side too if you could

It looks like the ribbon cable is plugged in correctly. The #1 pin is on the left side.

Thanks. What is pin 1 on the dmd side?

Here’s a photo of the front side. I can take a photo of the back if you need it.

Looks like the High Voltage section is pretty toasty on the DMD Board. Got another one to swap in from another WPC machine.

Would you recommend re-building the hv section, or simply buying a new board? (If that is the issue, of course)

Also, what is the cause of this issue, and how could this have happened after 20 years of home use?

Thanks

Electronics fail when they wish to. Some give a warning others just say I am done working. You can rebuild it if not too burned or buy a new board rottendog.

If your saying it shows some stuff on the DMD for a while but is garbled the high voltage is working, at least for a while. The DMD controller boards on getaway are known for logic chip problems. But before you do anything, flip the ribbon cable connector around on the DMD and the controller board. That way it's still hooked up correctly but using different connections for different signals. Even if you hook the ribbon cable up wrong I don't think it will cause damage. I've done it a few times without damage.

Update:

I have turned around the ribbon cable, and there was no change. Sometimes the display does show the right screen in game, but only for a second. Otherwise, only one line is visible.

I will swap the board from fish tales and report back. It may take a while

Merry Christmas to you all!
