I noticed that I couldn't change the "free ride" ball saver in the game menu. That led me to looking a other threads about the game and now I see that there are many different ROM sets for the game.

1. I do not intend to use the game in tournament.

2. I would like a longer "free ride"

What ROM should I use and why?

Where is the best place to get that chip?

#2 7 years ago

I prefer the proto ROM with the instant multiball instead of supercharger.

#3 7 years ago

I've purchased countless ROMs from http://www.thatpinballplace.com

The notes on the website (http://www.thatpinballplace.com/eproms/wpc.html) pretty much tells it like it is: L2 is considered to be the least buggy and L5 is the newest.

Here's another thread: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/getaway-hs2-rom-yet-another-question

We burn our own around here. My game came with L1. I didn't care for L5 at all. I am now running P7. It's fun but I doubled my all time high score on the second game I played. Trying L2 when I get tired of P7.

Time to dig up this old topic again. For the first few years of owning my Getaway I ran L5 rom, a few months ago I changed to L2 as I was always hearing L2 is better. Yesterday in a 3 player game, player 1 started normal run the red light multiball on his 2nd ball, draining out fairly quickly. Player 1 ball 3 then started in first gear! I'm not sure what gear he had reached but he was definitely working through the gears on ball 1 and 2 and hadn't reached RLM, so basically all progress towards RLM was lost after his normal multiball. Is this a known bug?

Is it for sure that player 1 wasn't on red light mania, which means they had progressed through the gears and would revert back to gear 1?

I like p7, but video mode is too long and a lot of adjustments are missing.

I find the endless multi ball bug happens way too much on l2. L5 has a bug where red light mania turns into normal multi ball which is disappointing, but more acceptable to me than endless multi ball.

.

99.9% sure, as he stepped up to the machine he said ' I haven't had red light mania have I? ' I replied he had not then looked and saw gear 1. I guess I'll have to witness it again before knowing 100%

Just released an L5 ROM patch that fixes that issue. See...

Thanks very much.

I just fitted the new ROM , thanks Soren. Can anyone tell me if the following behaviour is normal/expected please? I just had 2 balls in the lock and reached red light mania ( I had 1 red standup left to get to enable 3rd ball lock ). I started RLM, did pretty crap, was down to the last ball so the timer was counting down to collect the jackpot. I hit the ramp and collected the jackpot. This is the bit I'm unsure of, collecting that jackpot relaunched the other 2 balls which were previously dead. I wasn't sure whether I was still in RLM or if the normal multiball had started with that jackpot collection until I drained and started the next ball with no balls locked, back to green traffic light. Also back to first gear obviously after playing RLM.

I'm guessing what happened was during the RLM I managed to hit the last red standup to light the 3rd lock, then collecting that jackpot also qualified as the 3rd ball lock starting regular multiball. Does that sound like correct machine behaviour?

Hi Kevlar

Sharp observation. Thanks for reporting this.

I have confirmed the behaviour you experienced. It is considered correct and will stay as is.

The last chance jackpot after RLM is single ball play and after the RLM is over. Technically. And hence the down-ramp shot will (also) award a lock, when lit. If third lock = multiball.

When this happens the multiball is the correct one. And not an extended RLM.

Thanks Soren, top work.

I think I just witnessed a bug, playing with 4 balls no extra balls ( ready for league meet tomorrow, yes we play with 4 balls in league in the UK for some reason ) , tournament settings, I had video mode lit for the 2nd time along with burn rubber, I put the ball in the saucer and it didn't start the video mode or award the burn rubber award, it knew it was there because it kicked it out immediately. I was on ball 4 and lost the ball shortly afterwards so no idea whether it would have repeated it on further hits. Is that a known issue? I'll see if I can replicate it. Using Sorens patched L5 ROM.

Does anyone have info on the L-6 ROM? We have this on location. I would like to find out what's changed in those ROMs, but haven't gotten anywhere yet.

Hey mate.
Did you end up finding out about this.
Would be interested to know also.

The thread that would not die...

I am considering ColorDMD and see that L2 and L5 rom are supported.

My game has M2, which I cannot find any intel on anywhere. I do see different shades (intensities) in the existing DMD images, so I am hopeful for a functional match with ColorDMD without swapping ROM.

Does anyone know what M2 version is and any deltas between it and L2/5?

My guess is that a previous owner used a Patched Rom, and re-named it "M-2".
It's probably L-2 with the LED non-ghosting patch applied IMO.

I would also guess that L-6 is the same scenario: L-5 with the non-ghosting patch.
I don't think there is an L-6 from Bally Williams.

That makes sense. Here are brains of the operation.

Follow-up. ColorDMD LCD install went perfectly with M-2 chip that was in the machine when I got it. All colors are in-place and nothing squirrely so far!

Great upgrade to a great early 90's era game!

Any roms that dont get confused after "secret mode"?

#21 5 years ago

I’ll have to check that out next time I play. I had never tried it or the “Hello World” modes before.

#22 5 years ago

Hello World mode???

I probably shouldn’t have called the “Hello World” Easter egg a mode. It does not seem to change game play at all. The other Easter eggs don’t have any effect that I can see either.

It is cool to see something different on the display though!

Are there any other known Easter eggs?

What is "B" at the beginning of each code on that flyer? Like it says
"B + 1L + 2R..." Is it the start button or something?

B stands for "Both" flippers

I think Soren made a rom patch for tournaments that avoids this issue

How do you start these Easter Eggs?

Yep. Certainly.

The Getaway - High Speed 2
Rev L-5 patch bc43
Download link: http://tinyurl.com/ychdyrw9
Please read the patch guide carefully.

Changes
The premature multiball (re)start bug - fixed.
With tournament play unselected: Multiball may be removed from Burn rubber awards (with adjustment A.2 13).
Secret mania is scrapped.

Why it rocks
Correct light locks, lock balls, start multiball, jackpot and super jackpots logic.
Secret mania messes up the traffic lights progress and potentially have more hazardous side effects.

Note
With tournament play selected: Multiball is still the fifth Burn rubber award (when no extra balls selected).
